What are the house rules?
Goonersweb is hosted by Invision and therefore subject to the Invision rules. These are the Invision rules concerning what may not be posted on any Invision board:

A board may not contain posts, uploads, links to, or send via email any Content that contains, promotes, gives instruction about, or provides prohibited Content. As the creator of a board, you are responsible for ensuring that no prohibited Content exists on your board and that no part of your board violates the Terms of Service. Prohibited Content includes any Content that breaks any local, state, county, national or international law. Prohibited Content also includes: (a) Content that infringes upon any rights (including, but not limited to, copyrights and trademarks); (b) Abusive, threatening, defamatory, racist, or obscene Content; © Viruses or any other harmful computer software; (d) False information or libel; (e) Spam, chain letters, or pyramid schemes; (f) Gambling or Illicit drugs; (g) Terrorism; (h) Hacking or cheating for internet/online games; (i) Warez, Roms, CD-Keys, Cracks, Passwords, or Serial Numbers; (j) Pornography, nudity, or sexual material of any kind; (k) Excessive profanity; (l) Content that is invasive of privacy or impersonation of any person/entity; and (m) Hacking materials or information. Repeat copyright infringers will have access to InvisionFree terminated.

What's with the swear filter?
If you look at the rules above you'll see point 'k' prohibits 'excessive profanity'. It was felt that the swearing was getting a bit excessive on here so some words are now filtered out automatically.

How do I post images?
For a full explanation, see this post:
http://z13.invisionfree.com/goonersweb/ind...?showtopic=1745

What is an avatar?
It's the little picture under people's usernames at the left of posts.

What is a signature?
It's text and/or images under each post.

How do I change my avatar and signature?
Towards the top of the screen there's a 'My Controls' link. Click that and you'll get a menu on the left of the screen.
Two options in there are "Edit Signature" and "Edit Avatar Settings" They will let you change your Signature or Avatar.

What is a PM?
It's a personal message. Each person has their own Inbox where they can see their messages.

How do I send a PM?
If you click on a user's name you'll see their profile. In there will be a link to send them a PM.

I'm a new member, why can't I send PMs or post new topics?
When you first sign up you will be put into a Validating group. This is to stop people signing up to cause trouble. In Validating you will not be able to start new topics or send Personal Messages. Some other restrictions will apply.
If you post sensibly then you will soon be moved to the members group.

Who are the regular members?
To give you some idea of the regular members and some of the in-jokes about them, see this thread:
http://z13.invisionfree.com/goonersweb/ind...showtopic=26224

How can I access the secure videos and images section?
This area is only for regular posters, this is to discourage people from signing up just to see the images and videos. When you have made 30 or so posts (please don't spam to get to this total) PM one of the mods and they will give you the password.

Can non arsenal fans join?
Certainly, if they're here to debate things sensibly. Obviously as the place is called Goonersweb it is predominantly Arsenal fans but fans of all clubs are welcome so long as they're not here to post windups or abuse.

Can non footie fans join?
Sure, there is a lively General Chat section which can be used for chat about anything and everything.

How does one become a mod?
Generally mods are appointed from the membership. If it's felt that another mod is needed then the existing mods will discuss who to ask.

How do i post videos on here?
You can post animated GIFs for little clips (see above about posting images). Otherwise you can post links to sites like YouTube.

Am I allowed animations in my signature or avatar?
You are, but if the file size is too big then you may be asked to change it as it will slow down the site for users with slower connections.

How do you change the board colours?
If you go to the board home page:
http://z13.invisionfree.com/goonersweb
Scroll to the bottom and you'll see a dropdown labelled: "Choose style".
There you can pick the default GW Red or a 'Work Safe' mode which will tone things down.

How can I change other board settings?
If you click on My Controls you'll see a menu on the left.
One of them is Board Settings, this allows you to change how many posts to show on each page. You can also change whether to show signatures and avatars - as mentioned above, we do stop people posting very large ones but if they're annoying you then you can turn them off there.

How do you make a new thread?
When you're browsing a section of the forum, towards the top is a New Topic button.
Press that then fill in the screen with a thread title, description and the text of your post which will kick off the thread, then click on the 'Post New Topic' button which is below the smileys.

How do you reply?
When you're browsing a thread, towards the top is an Add Reply button.
Press that then type the text of your reply, then click on the 'Add Reply' button which is below the smileys.

What are all the different sections about?
The Help Zone is rarely used but if you have a question about anything then you can post it there.
New Members is...for New Members to introduce themselves and be welcomed.
Members Hall of Fame is for Poster of the Week threads. We've been nominating regular posters as poster of the week and asking them about themselves. The threads are compiled in there for future reference.
The Arsenal Area is fairly self explanatory as is the Other Football Chat section.
The Non Football Forums section is where any other chat goes. Most of the talk is in General Chat which is for anything and everything.

Where's the Tavern?
People from GW sometimes meet up pre or post match in the Tavern.
The Arsenal Tavern, also known as The @ Club, is on Blackstock Road, on the corner of Mountgrove Road. Nearest Tube stations are Arsenal and Finsbury Park.

Map here:

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=53...186427&z=0&ar=Y

If you go out of Arsenal Station, turn left and keep going till you get to the main road then it's on the opposite corner. From Finsbury Park go down Blackstock road till you get there, it's on the left hand side of the road from that direction.

How do I change my name?
You can't change your own name, you'll need to PM one of the mods, they can do it for you.

What is St Totteringham's Day?
St Totteringham's Day is the moveable annual feast day on which Spurs can no longer mathematically finish above Arsenal.

The thread says "LOCKED" why can't I post on it?
Threads are sometimes locked by the mods. Usually the mod who locks the thread will post explaining why. Often because it's a duplicate of an existing topic or maybe because it's descended into bickering.

How do you Quote another poster?
Just above each post there is a quote button. If you press that you will get a box at the top where you can type your post. Underneath that and the smilies is a box labelled "Original Post to Quote". This contains the text you are quoting which you may edit if you only wish to quote part of the original post.
If you want to quote several parts of a post you can do so by copying them into the top box where you type your post and for each part put [ QUOTE] before it and [/ QUOTE] afterwards (without the spaces).
f you highlight the text you want to change by clicking and draging with the mouse then you can use the QUOTE button above where you type to do this for you

How can I write in different sizes, fonts and colours?
When you're writing a post you'll see above the box where you type a load of buttons.
If you highlight the text you want to change by clicking and draging with the mouse then you can use B to make your text bold, I for italics, U for underline and you can pick from the font, size and color dropdowns to change the style of your text in other ways.

What do I do if I see a post which I find offensive
Please don't respond in anger or it will escalate into an argument.
Just above each post is a Report button. You can use that to alert the mods to the post you find offensive and you can enter some details as to why you're reporting it.
