I can't wait. I love the Olympics :jumpnana:

Used to love the athletics, unfortunately you just can't trust it anymore. Any decent times posted will be met with suspicion, which is a real shame. Remember watching Ben Johnson shatter the world record at the World Champs in 87, one of the most wonderful things witnessed and then a year later everything was shattered.

A lot of people feel the same way, but I still enjoy watching the actual peformance of the athletes and do so without prejudice beforehand. If a cheat comes to light afterwards, sure I won't be a fan of them, but I won't let the cheats spoil my enjoyment.

Too many sports in the Olympics are won in the chemistry lab - so much so, that the finger of suspicion is pointed at anybody who achieves excellence beyond that of their peers.

That, added to the fact that the Games are being played in one of the most oppressive regimes in the world that has tried to maximise political capital as a result of hosting the Games, means this year, I will not watch a second of the Games.

I am also joining a campaign writing letters to the main sponsors informing them they are wasting their money and that where possible, I will choose alternative products. I don't expect it will change much, but I will feel better and if many people do the same, a small difference on how sponsors approach issues like this may be achieved.

Subway actually! :sulk:

Moral objections or not (and I certainly have plenty) rest assured I'll be glued to Interactive - cos you know it won't get the honour of main channel coverage - for the time trial in particular and the cycling in general. Won't baulk at the swimming for the opening week either, but when the BBC/ Team GB Orgy (or 'Athletics coverage' as some might know it) kicks in.. :banghead:

Dwain Chambers is gonna appeal against his Olympic ban:

It`s gonna get messy.. :sulk:

Est. 1886 - May 16, 2008 03:04 PM (GMT)
It will be quashed

Rors - May 16, 2008 05:18 PM (GMT)
So he's going to try get through the trials THEN appeal?! Assuming he 'qualifies', you can't deny he's planned it well..

Rkane - June 1, 2008 03:44 PM (GMT)
It was only his 5th official run at this distance :yikes: and he now holds the 1st and 3rd fastest times ever.

Well, this livens up the 100m final quite a bit. A 3 man final rather than two and the most pressure is on Powell, he really needs to prove he can do the business in a final, with no world record to fall back on for his status.

Rkane - June 29, 2008 07:41 PM (GMT)
100m looking like a cracker this year, Tyson Gay ( :console: ) runs 9.77 in the US Olympic trials whilst Bolt beats Powell in the Jamaican trials, really slowing up at the line and still clocking 9.85!

Dwain should not represent Great Britain, not now, not ever. :redcard:

Rkane - July 29, 2008 11:29 AM (GMT)
Anyone see the Bolt 200m run on the weekend?

I really hope he doubles up for the sprints, one of the records is bound to go.

There really should be a section for the olympics, it deserves its own section... Might start a petition..

adzzzbatch - August 26, 2008 09:37 PM (GMT)
It seems a bit late to post this but oh well never mind.

I couldn't help but notice that most of the athletes that took part for Team GB went to university. This bothers me because I don't think what level of education you've had should ever be a factor in sport, only ability.
Also The fact that the standard of facilities in universities are so much higher than most other places it means there is already a unlevel playing field and makes it difficult for those that may have the ability but not the education status to progress as far and or at the same rate.

I'm not that good at getting my point across when I type it but I hope it sort of made sense.
