Title: Who Da Mayor?

Rkane - April 29, 2008 08:20 PM (GMT)
Usual nonsense is upon us Londoners, I'm not voting as usual but what's your take on this load of tripe?

Mr Brighterside - April 29, 2008 08:27 PM (GMT)
voted for the funny one :good:

don't think a great deal of any of these candidates tbh, still, anyone but ken

Rkane - April 29, 2008 08:34 PM (GMT)
If I HAD to pick one, then it would be Paddick.

As all leaders are elected on personality nowadays, he seems the most realistic.

Grimandi's Perm - April 29, 2008 08:40 PM (GMT)
I vote for Lenny Henry.

Lenny had talent. Boris is Boris.

Cripps - April 29, 2008 08:53 PM (GMT)
Il do what i do for GW polls

Vote for all of them

dazthegooner - May 1, 2008 09:15 AM (GMT)
Would rather Paddick but it would be a wasted vote and I can't stand Livingston so would have to go got Boris :good:

XsNrG - May 1, 2008 09:26 AM (GMT)
Many are of the opinion that if you don't vote, you have no right to complain, which, personally, I think is bollox.

It's not like they are going to personally come around my house and ask me if I want a rise in public transport costs, or whether I want the buses to come more frequently or anything.

But then, democracy is a load of old bollocks really...

Cripps - May 1, 2008 09:28 AM (GMT)
Il probably go vote in a bit as soon as it stops raining.

Whose the best guy to vote for?

No idea who any of these people are

Letters (TPFKA WWTL@WHL) - May 1, 2008 09:29 AM (GMT)
There should be an aptitude test you have to pass before you're allowed to vote.

I'd fail.

EDIT: So would you, Cripps.

Coca Kolo - May 1, 2008 09:51 AM (GMT)
It'll be Ken who wins..

Captain Malcolm Reynolds™ - May 1, 2008 11:20 AM (GMT)
You lot could at least register your discontent with a spoiled ballot rather than just showing apathy.:(

Rkane - May 1, 2008 11:31 AM (GMT)
Why?

PGFC - May 1, 2008 11:37 AM (GMT)
QUOTE (Rkane @ May 1 2008, 12:31 PM)
Why?

Yes Why CC™? Rk wouldn't be able to moan about the man sticking it to him if he'd actually got up off his arse and exercised his right to try and make things better.

Rkane - May 1, 2008 11:37 AM (GMT)
:handbags:

PGFC - May 1, 2008 11:41 AM (GMT)
:smooch:

I'm only teasing you Rk, I know you have sound, reasoned idealogical reasons for not wanting to vote.

Is it still raining down there?

Rkane - May 1, 2008 11:49 AM (GMT)
No, I'm out the shower now thanks.

Est. 1886 - May 1, 2008 12:55 PM (GMT)
voted this morning :good:

TorresIsBoss - May 1, 2008 02:05 PM (GMT)
I'd not vote for any of them, personally.

Looking at the list of 10, it really is quite unnerving.

I didn't vote last time so I'm not having a go but surely you have a responsibility to vote?

heres an example - if very few people thought voting was worthwhile and the BNP candidate was elected would a non votee have the right to blame anyone or be outraged when their own failure to vote in effect allowed a facist to be voted in?

an extreme example I know but I do genuinely think voting is important, even if the main candidates are all incompetent buffoons - don't forget a voting slip can be deliberately made invalid (e.g. x for each candidate) as a sign disapproval for available options via a spoilt ballot paper.

Rkane - May 1, 2008 05:23 PM (GMT)
If you do not believe in any of the candidates and the system, why register a vote? Sure you can go for a spoilt ballot and try to prevent the BNP gaining seats but the reality is that not enough people would pursue this avenue and the responsibility of trying to prevent parties such as these gaining anything falls squarely onto the current major political parties shoulders.

As for the notion that if you don't vote you can't speak out, that is even more ludicrous.

I vote from home, you can squeeze a few more in that way.

:ninja:

Why ludicrous? To suggest you cannot voice your opposition or disapproval towards something that formulates your daily routine whether you vote or not, is simply ludicrous.

QUOTE
The Tories are beginning to believe that Boris has beaten Ken in London. Indeed, the Tory supporting (though unofficial) website has actually declared him the capital's next mayor. This even though no votes have been counted yet and none will be until tomorrow.

The key to their optimism, I believe, is the staggering turnout in outer London where resentment of Mayor Ken in the commuting classes runs at staggering levels. I'm told that the turnout in Bexley and Bromley may be higher than at the general election - in the 60s.

:woohoo: here's hoping, anyone but ken or the bnp :good:
