Ok so i had a load of videos of my son and stuff on my PC and then it died and reset the factory settings

Since then i have made loads more videos and stored them on there, they then dissapeared so i searched all files and the whole computer for video's and its found the original ones again

How do i know get back the ones i lost? Wierdly all the photo's have stayed despite it all being in the same folder

Have you tried, oh whats it called, system restore, I think,- it involves resetting your PC from an exact date - i.e meaning if you were to restore your system to yesterday - everything that you deleted today, you would get back - but this also means anything that you have done today would be removed.

I had better not try that then mate as i have added loads to the pc since it broke last time

System restore shouldn't delete stuff you've added since the last way-point if that makes sense  , though if you really want to save the stuff get a removable hard-drive and store it all on there :good:

Way point?

It's what system restore uses, you create (or it's done automatically  )
way points to restore your computer to, ie if you were going to update/upgrade your pc or add a bit of hardware you'd create a way point before starting just in case it all went to shit and you'd then have a known point where everything worked ok to restore it to.

this isn't helping is it.

If only i had known that before upgrading the RAM and installing a new DVDRW and a graphics card

Really?

Whenever I've had to use System restore it ALWAYS takes off the stuff that have been created after the restore point.

I always make a habit of creating regular restoring points each month or so, so as not to lose too much stuff if something were to happen :)

It shouldn't, most user created file types should be unaffected like .doc or .jpeg files, they should still be visible.

but, what do I know?
