Title: Alberto Aquilani

This sounds nice -- but doesn't jibe at all with everything we've heard about our finances. And doesn't include a replacement for Hleb.
| QUOTE |
Such is Wenger's desire to strengthen his squad that even if he was able to steal Barry from under Liverpool's noses, he would still pursue a move for Aquilani, who impressed the Frenchman during Roma's last-16 Champions League defeat to United in March.
Wenger is also planning on buying a left-back to understudy Gael Clichy and a left-winger to provide competition for the injury-prone Tomas Rosicky. |

1/ Finances, I don't think anyone outside the club know how much we have to spend, so its a different figure day by day in the press.
2/ Ditto with our transfer targets. AW is the hardest manager to 2nd guess when it comes to transfers, honestly I could not predict where he will strengthen or who will he sign. I hope he strengthen's in some areas, but that's hope.
3/ I think he has hopes for Merida, and he may well be Hleb's replacement if this article is anything to go by.
4/ Aquilani would be an excellent signing. He's already IMO a fantastic midfielder but he will improve with age and experience, however I'm not sure - if this article is anything to go by - where he'd fit in. He's too good to be a squad player IMO.
The Emirates Gallastico - May 9, 2008 02:25 PM (GMT)
If Merida is Hleb's replacement, and Wilshere Rosicky's, and Song Flamini's.... <_<
Coca Kolo - May 9, 2008 02:27 PM (GMT)
Could be dude, don't rule anything out.
Wengervision - May 9, 2008 02:29 PM (GMT)
Aqa has great potential and an eye for goal, but I'm pleased enough with what we already have at that position.
Cripps - May 9, 2008 02:31 PM (GMT)
Not needed.
Plays for Roma and other than Totti, they have shite players
hleb_on_left - May 9, 2008 02:32 PM (GMT)
i would take aquilani in a flash, he already posseses all of the short passing technical qualities required to play in our team, and has a rocket shot on him, ideal competition for rosicky/cesc

that really is a load of poo, one player does not make a team, aquilani is a good player, and atm id be happy with a signing like that considering the depth of our squad right now

They were distinctly average when I watched them against the Mancs and AC and Inter's performances in the Champions League were nothing to write home about either so Serie A isn't the league it used to be.
Doesn't mean that Roma's players are sh!t though.
tigerthesmurf85 - May 9, 2008 05:17 PM (GMT)
Seen him play a couple of times and he is very good. Also got a great shot, which we need.
Tuman - May 9, 2008 08:18 PM (GMT)
I avoid everything Roma at all costs so have no idea how good he is but that isn't going to stop me from having an opinion, he probably aint worth it although if Roma are willing to sell it means he obviously doesn't fit in there so is alright by me.
Black Magic - May 10, 2008 12:18 AM (GMT)
I bought his jersey a few months ago, hopefully he stays at Roma. :good:

The lad was born and bred in Rome and is playing for his hometown club, he won't leave them to come here. Forget this one.

Roma midfielder Alberto Aquilani is discussing a possible move with Arsenal, agent Vincenzo Morabito has revealed.
Arsene Wenger is reported to be targeting a midfielder following the departure of Mathieu Flamini and 23-year-old Aquilani has emerged as an option for the North Londoners.
The Italian ace has enjoyed an excellent campaign with Giallorossi and his representative has warned Roma they need to reward him accordingly to keep him at Stadio Olimpico.
“Aquilani is speaking to Arsenal,” Morabito told Italia Uno. “We will have to see if Roma will be able to match his demands.”
Aquilani, whose performance against Real Madrid this season caught many an eye, has been strongly linked to the Spanish giants in the last couple months. |
How many players will we be linked with?!?
The Emirates Gallastico - May 19, 2008 09:04 AM (GMT)
This is the 5,607th one I think.
TheJoyOfCesc - May 19, 2008 09:06 AM (GMT)
Somebody's agents are telling porkies. We seem to be in talks with about £70m worth of players :coffee:

actually its perfectly plausable that weve had contact with all these players, wenger is a smart man and will examine the entire market before making a buy, it doesnt necessarily mean that we will buy them all!

I assume he's a defensive midfielder.
Does anybody really think that we would pay 10/12 million pounds plus wages replacing Flamini who left for free ?
Need I say more.
RVP Left Foot - May 19, 2008 03:30 PM (GMT)
Wenger does not like it when agents speakout about any deal he prefers everything to be hush hush, now he has opened his mouth I doubt if this deal will go thru
tigerthesmurf85 - May 19, 2008 03:38 PM (GMT)
Okay, so it's from Wikipedia, but they're saying a deal was confirmed at 4 32
bergstar - May 19, 2008 03:42 PM (GMT)
Well he's a local lad playing for his local side, i doubt there's any real mileage in it. Just wants an improved deal at his current club

Exactly.
The killer line in the article is: 'we will have to see if Roma will be able to match his demands'.
Agent speak. He know's we need a midfielder, his client is angling for a new deal (and is good footballer as well) so in order to scare Roma, he comes out with this.
Like I said in the other thread regarding Aquilani - this is too good to be true.

Alberto Aquilani has pledged his future to AS Roma
| QUOTE |
“I can only say that I am flattered,” said the 23-year-old midfield maestro amid reports of a move to the Emirates Stadium.
“According to speculation I have already gone to two or three of the mentioned sides.
“But I have a deal at Roma until 2010. I am a part of this Giallorossi team and no other sides matter.
"Talk of a move makes no sense.” |

his agent is a dumbass... out of all the clubs in the world, he picked arsenal to put pressure to match his wage demands! :haha: our wage structure will only make him poorer!!

ARSENE WENGER has revealed he kept tabs on Alberto Aquilani for a couple of years.
Liverpool stepped in when the Gunners boss lost interest and the 25-year-old midfielder is set make his long-awaited debut for Rafa Benitez's side at the Emirates tonight.
Aquilani, who moved to Anfield for £20million in the summer, has been sidelined until now because of injury and, ironically, that was the reason the trail went cold for Wenger.
He said: "Yes, I know him well.
"He played against us in the Champions League last year and came off the bench in Rome. He is a talented player but has been troubled a lot by injuries.
"We followed him for one or two years but he did not play a lot last year. He got a little bit out of sight for us and we lost our interest in him."
