The Emirates Gallastico - May 31, 2008 08:21 PM (GMT)
Hmm. Not a bad price for a release clause but we're broke...

Heard his name mentioned in a paper the other day, with a double raid on Spain with us signing someone else from La Liga too.
Professor Zim - May 31, 2008 08:45 PM (GMT)
Not really too keen on us signing Spaniards as apart from the odd few exceptions they don't do very well in the Premiership.

I disagree, Fabregas, Torres, Xabi Alonso, Arbeloa, Campo, Reina have all done very well in their period over here imo. I'm sure there are a few more.
As for Guiza, I've seen him a few times and he's a clinical finisher, La Liga's top scorer, but I don't think the forward line needs strengthening personally, we have one of the best forward lines in the league imo.

Arbeloa, Morientes, Reyes, Nunez, Mendieta, Ricardo Lopez, Josemi, Hierro, Ferrer, Del Horno, Luque, Pique, Herrera
See what I mean I did say there were a few exceptions :D
As for Arbeloa....not convinced by him.

Blimey quite a list you've got there, I would argue that Pique is a good player and has shown that by getting a return to Barca, he just couldn't get past Rio and Vidic which is no shame. I think I'll leave the Reyes one for another time...:D
I think you could probably deduce that for every good one you get a bad one, still I'd argue that more than the odd exception succeed here though.
Czech Out Rosicky - May 31, 2008 10:04 PM (GMT)
the exciting thing is that in 27 goals, none were penalties and with the unreliability of rvp fitness wise and the unknown length of eddys recovery, it might not be a bad signing as he is late twenties and can move on within 4 years for the next bunch
Cripps - May 31, 2008 10:06 PM (GMT)
One season wonder
Lets see how he does next season
Marc Overmars - May 31, 2008 10:06 PM (GMT)
Yeah its exactly this sort type of signing that will take us to the next level imo, we hardly ever buy players north of 25 anymore.
TorresIsBoss - May 31, 2008 10:10 PM (GMT)
Arbeloa?
The one that's been included in the full Spain squad on the back of superb displays for Liverpool.
Stranger person to count as a failure, Zim.

Err, putting a bit of pressure on the guy aren't you?
Guiza is a good solid player who knows how to finish, nothing too fancy. He won't dazzle you with skills or technique, but scores bucketloads by good positioning and good finishing.
The German Spaniard. :D

You are forgetting that he did well at Murcia before he was moved to Getafe. I remember Guiza was on course for a possible Pichichi in that season with Getafe, except they were of course a bit of a defensive team under Schuster.
So not a one season wonder by any stretch of the imagination.

mr_gooner - June 2, 2008 11:06 AM (GMT)
Still not a fan of Guiza tbh!
bergstar - June 2, 2008 04:24 PM (GMT)
Wheres he been all his career. He's not a kid and no-ones heard of him before, think it takes more consistency for me.
Marc Overmars - June 2, 2008 04:29 PM (GMT)
Could be a late bloomer like Luca Toni.

I agree, how many seasons has he had at the top of the scoring charts. Too many players get big contracts based on one decent season only to flop.
jonsi - June 2, 2008 06:09 PM (GMT)
there would be a lot of interest in the Güiza strip

So... Eduardo.
Dentonboy - June 2, 2008 09:07 PM (GMT)
Can't see it myself. Not a Wenger-type signing going on past form. Too old, and Spaniards are very hit and miss in the UK. That is why I can't believe that Rafa is going for Riera.
Gomez however would be. Young, powerful and very quick.
He'd be a good buy. As would swapping Yaya Toure + cash for Hleb.
And if we were to sign Veloso and Kightly, that would have me very excited indeed!

Dentonboy - June 2, 2008 09:29 PM (GMT)
Wolves U21 England right-winger, linked for a £3m move this Summer.
Good player, crosses like a certain England #7 and would help us when Blatter screws us with his quota system.
Would love to see him have a shot at Arsenal, replacing Hleb.
elreactor - June 6, 2008 01:32 PM (GMT)
If we signed a striker, I´m not sure it should be Güiza even to just have more sub options. Bendtner, for example, must have evolved a bit after last season and should build on it a little more during pre-season. I think we already have the material up front, maybe one reinforcemnt but that should be enough. And if Walcott goes up too, HA!
KoloLO - June 6, 2008 02:01 PM (GMT)
lol @ some of you looking at his past season & getting overly excited. His career has been poor & his home scoring record this season was *poor*. Hes not that good. Some people need to calm down.
