Reports are surfacing that Arsenal striker Carlos Vela and some of his team mates were arrested by Chicago Police last night, after causing a disturbance at the teams Hotel. The squad are currently staying at the “Westin” on Michigan Ave, after taking part in two friendly fixtures against Argentina and Peru.
After the latter game in which they won 4-0, with Vela getting on the score sheet, they were unwinding in the early hours of the morning before an incident kicked off. Captain Oswaldo Sanchez along with Vela and another member of the side, were listening to music in Sanchez’s room before Hotel staff received complaints about the noise.
They were twice asked to turn it down by security, but after failing to do so Police were called. They asked the players to leave, but after an argument broke out involving the confrontational Sanchez, they were taken into custody.
Oswaldo denied he was in the room during the occasions they were asked to turn the volume down, but Carlos and other members were. He returned as the law enforcement officers entered, and as the teams captain, naturally took the flack for the younger players actions.
“After games, we have a hard time sleeping,” Sanchez told HOY “Sometimes we’ll listen to music in one guy’s room or another guy’s room, and that’s what happened. We turned up the music a little and the people at the hotel called the police.
“[The hotel staff] came twice saying to turn down the music. I wasn’t there those times. I was there the third time — that’s what the police got there. I got scared because I saw the police. I tried telling my teammates that we shouldn’t get in trouble, and unfortunately they grabbed me. Maybe for being the captain…of the situation.”
Vela and the others involved were released without charge this morning, whilst Sanchez who resisted arrest and continued to argue with officers was fined $1,000, and order to attend court on July 11. |

Well, that is the problem of give a bunch of teenagers a 5star hotel. Well, it is at least true that they didn't involved any hookers....... :tiphat: I am not surprised since I used to do that when I was young.... although never been arrested.

hmmmm, coor these molehills are like mountains!!
US Police are a nightmare, more so depending on which state you are in. A work colleague of mine in my previous job use to live in the US (can't remember which state) and one night they were having a dinner party in their apartment. Of course they had some music on (trust me, this guy wasn't your "lets have the music banging type") which was on just over the normal music level. During the night they were ask to turn it down by their neighbour, they thought it was a bit odd as it wasn't that loud so they turned it down to a normal stereo level. Next minute US Police arrived at their door and told them to turn it down even though it was already down to the normal level and they discussed this with them but they didn't want to know and they were threatened that if they didn't turn it really low they would have their stereo confiscated and arrested!!!
They were so bemused and they did what they said. It's a well known fact that US
Police in certain states are complete t0ssers and they are Nazi's......the land of freedom, my arse!!
I reckon the majority of Amercians are fuddy duddy's that don't know how to have a good time!! Cue Jens!!

This doesn't surprise me at all. A few years back a few friends of mine were arrested in Washington for disturbing the peace. They had a walkman with speakers in the garden, When US coppers come to deal with these situations there is never the room for debate that there is in the UK. Basically anything you say to try to defend yourself will be taken as interfering with police business, and then you'll be arrested and have to go through the courts. Cost my mates planty $$$$$ in lawyers' fees to do so.

Well, the US 'cops' can do whatever they like, in contrast to the British police. I hate their shoot first talk later policy.
Anyway, Vela scored again in Mexico's WC qualifier. Sounds like they got over their night in celss already.

we students had a pretty decent time with the cops in college in US... we had drunk parties every weekend but only got warnings... it depends from state to state and sometimes county to county...
