Title: Artur Boruc
otobeagoonahUSA - June 15, 2008 07:52 AM (GMT)
He was really good for poland the other day.
Any chance we go for him???
The Emirates Gallastico - June 15, 2008 08:02 AM (GMT)
Naah. If we get a goalkeeper, it should be a step up. Boruc isn't better than Almunia tbh.
otobeagoonahUSA - June 15, 2008 08:08 AM (GMT)
i feel like anyone better no team will give up tho..
ricardo? who does he play for?

We could always go for Casillas.
If he wants to achieve anything serious in football, he has to step up from the pile of shite that is his current club team... :coffee:

I'd say boruc is better than almunia, the amount of times he saves Celtic points, especially in the champions league is unreal. A bit like Lehmann in the sense that he is crazy, loves to provoke oppo fans.
only downside is he will cost in excess of £10 million as Gordon went to Sunderland for £9million and isn't as good as boruc

Larsson, Di Canio, Laudrop, Gazza, Hately...
Boruc is a top keeper and is far far far far far better than Almunia.
However, he's a horrible little cnut and I'd hate to see him sign.
lucas_priest - June 17, 2008 05:19 PM (GMT)
How can anyone say we don't need a new keeper. Fabianski is untested and Manuel is adequate at best - he wouldn't even be second choice at Manure or Chelski so how can people be content with him at No1?
I'd take Boruc but at the right proce which sadly won't materialise after Gordon went for £9M last year. But we really need a keeper who can win matches on a regular basis and Almunia can't do it!!

He was probably more reliable than Cech and VDS last season, so I don't see what the problem is. I'm not saying we can't improve on him but he has shown he can be a very good, reliable keeper. Everyone points to our poor defence but Arsenal only conceded 31 goals in the Premiership last season. Without a decent keeper, it could've been much more IMO. He's better than adequate.

31 GA isnt gonna cut it. scousers, chelski and manure all had better GA's than us last year.
THe last 5 years, the champion hasnt allowed more than 27 GA...
We must have a top class keeper to win - and sorry but thats not almunia.
lucas_priest - June 18, 2008 04:54 PM (GMT)
But who can we get? As I stated earlier Manuel isn't the answer so whose available? And more importantly at a pittance given our reluctance to spend big.
Love to see Buffon at the Arsenal but that's just crazy talk on my part.

I'd Take Boruc, great keeper shame hes a twat.
Has proved himself aswell, take him as Fabianski has not been great when hes played and Almunia wont play superbly all season.

arsenal901 - June 18, 2008 07:02 PM (GMT)
GK should be the least of our concerns.. almunia did pretty decently... as long as a keeper doesnt make major gaffe's like lehmann's against b'burn and fulham, im ok with a keeper.. he is no buffon or schmeichel but he is reliable, that is good enough for me!

It should be one of our major concerns IMHO. A keeper of Cech, Seaman or Schmeichel quality wins you Championships, they win you points.
Almunia isn't a high class keeper, he's a stop gap at best. Arsenal can & should aim for higher quality than Almunia.
Coca Kolo - June 18, 2008 10:06 PM (GMT)
He's had an oustanding Euro's. Easily one of the top 5 keepers in the world IMO.

Why is that Almunia's fault? I'd lay it our inadequate GA at the feet of the back 4.
Almunia screwed up and allowed the 2nd manyoo goal at the Grove. I can't think of anything else.
I'd say that he kept us in many more matches than he cost us.

ok ... THEN WHO DO YOU SUGGEST?
sorry, it's just SO frustrating. We're not going to be able to buy Casillas from Marketing, after all.

see, that's exactly the problem -- losing sight of the actual issue.
Boruc might be a smidgen better than Aluminum or he might be a smidgen worse. (I think probably worse, but whatever.) The point is that he's not a level above Aluminum, the way VDS is. Signing him would not represent a real step up for our team.
Aluminum is NOT the world's best keeper.
Aluminum MAY WELL cost us points and, therefore, could cost us a trophy.
But there is NO keeper appreciably better than him, whom we can get.
Fact. Of. Life.
Live. With. It.
Coca Kolo - June 18, 2008 11:42 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't want us to sign a keeper anyway, I'm happy with Manuel and Wookash, but you honestly think Boruc is worse then Almunia, or even on the same level?
If so why?
Lancastrian Gunner - June 18, 2008 11:43 PM (GMT)
Don't we want a third choice keeper to back up after Fabianski and Almunia, or are we going to promote some kid from the reserves?

Because I haven't seen Boruc play enough.
Because I think Aluminum is pretty good. He's a good shot stopper, he's good in the air, he's calm and most of the time makes good decisions.
I think the same about Boruc.
