What's 19m euros in proper money?
If RVP wants to stay, Arsenal should keep him (provided the bid isn't ridiculously high).

Swap him for Zlatan...

Yeah.
A story they choose to highlight (like the Ade one) with no quotes supporting it. Superb journalism.
Mr Brighterside - June 15, 2008 06:09 PM (GMT)
if he doesn't play in more than 12 games next season we should sell him imo, he needs to prove his fitness
however when he is fit he is awesome

Give RVP one more season to prove himself and get over the injuries. We all know how good RVP is once he gets going. If he doesn't shake of the injuries next season and have a season like Ade just had, it's time we cut our losses.
Bubba the Gunner - June 15, 2008 06:43 PM (GMT)
Rvp is a rarity. He has supported Arsenal all his life, is a very very skillful player who is highly reputable across europe. He may be the only star we have who will stay loyal to us. It not just money or wenger he is here for. We need to keep that kind of player.

:goodpost: Completely agree with both. Van Persie is my personal favourite despite his bad luck with injuries. Itīs a pleasure to see him play at full strength and not many players can match his technique and quality. Iīd be really upset should he leave Arsenal as he has yet to show at his very best and donīt think there is a replacement for him in the whole market, his style is unique.
Raise his wages to thank his loyalty and keep him.
Having Van Persie, Eduardo, Adebayor as main frontmen and Bendtner, Vela and Walcott as backup, many "big" teams must envy us. The best part is that the main trio and the backup all have many years ahead of them at top level, which is definitely GOOD :music:

Yeah you're right, teammates will really respond badly to someone being given time to sort out their injury problems as opposed to selling a valued member of the squad.
Oh and he didn't moan about getting more money, actually.

nevermind the fact that he ws shite at the start of the season and is a scorer of great goals but not a great goal scorer,
being carried for the club over two injury ridden seasons and then sticking oyur beak in moaning about the clubs wage structure is plain disrespectful. Arsenal never has and never will air its dirty laundry in public.
Van persie, like flamini and eboue was a stopgap measure and is not in any sense the long term future. He came to us with with attitude problems and will leave in the same way. If we get a decent pot of cash out of it so much the better.
Thicknthin - June 16, 2008 01:15 PM (GMT)
RVP's deal is up for renewal and doubtless he won't be getting much of a rise so his agent will poke around during the Euro's in true cheap whore fashion.
Jose is happy to stir the shit as much as possible but seriously, given Jose's history with Robben there is no way he'll go for RVP.
The real striker action is with Eto, Drogba and Berbatov. All available, yet all seemingly unwanted because of price. Very strange. Can only be because actually Meelan and Barca don't really have much money to spend.

if he is too stupid to see that mourinho is pushing his buttons bollox to him. we need more focussed players than that - and preferably ones who arent made of glass.

how could you say that? in his first 11 games of the season he scored 7 times. I'd say thats a pretty solid start. and theres nothing wrong with being a scorer of great goals either...

Nice work on toeing the line on Alan Shearer's rhetoric! How would we know if he is a great goal scorer or not when he is so unlucky with injuries?

He didn't moan! He made a point and a good, valid one at that. I grant you however he probably shouldn't be the one making it.

I don't understanding this stopgap idea, we bought him in 2004, who was he a stopgap for?! He will leave with attitude problems apparently and the evidence for his remergence of attiudinal problems is what, people perceiving he was moaning about a wage structure? You seem to be guessing how Wenger sees his role for us and the only thing I can infer is that he is ready to persist with him. He has been here for four years now, most of those injury hit, so if he was going to lose patience with him, I'd suggest he would have already done so.
