Good player, not a world beater though, and that is what we need IMO. How much would Eto'o cost do you think? If he is really surplus at Barca, i doubt it will be much over 15million, and i would much prefer him to Oba.

We're getting linked to Martins more times than we have ever been linked to Given.
I just cannot see it happening.
bagwan - June 20, 2008 10:12 AM (GMT)
According to folklore Kanu and him are actually twin brothers and have been playing football through the decades, avoiding all questions about their age.
I dunno if its true, but i heard that!

Jeez not Martins again! He's turd and his finishing is woeful. Struggles to get into the Newcastle team!
He's worth Ģ5m max

His thoughts donīt come as fast as his legs respond to spasms, he canīt control his movements. They look really out of phase.
He thinks: run..-..run..-..run-.....(ball already past the line)......-SHOOT!!!. Goalkick!!!. :sulk:
Jimi @ the Emirates - June 20, 2008 08:32 PM (GMT)
He must surely be the most linked to player weve ever had, seriously. We had it all last summer and as soon as the season was over they were harping on about how we were after him again :banghead:
Its all just a complete load of rubbish. Were not interested in him at all, never have been, never will be. I reckon AW phones the sun and tells them hes looking at martins just so they will leave him alone to do his 'thing' in the transfer market ;)

I think he is a decent player who under the right management can turn into a world beater.

i don't.
over rated, if possible!
Rkane - June 21, 2008 09:41 PM (GMT)
I think he's a good striker but if Ade stays I'd rather not have another ACoN striker to disappear for 2 months with the injury prone cover we have.

Obafemi Martins claims it would be 'nice' to play for Arsenal, but will not push for a move away from Newcastle United.
Arsenal have been linked with a swoop for the Nigerian striker, who joined Newcastle in a Ģ10million deal from Internazionale two years ago.
At the end of last season, Magpies boss Kevin Keegan warned clubs off making bids for his star players and said he had not received an approach from Arsenal.
Reports continue to claim the Gunners will bid for Martins and the 23-year-old would be tempted by the chance to head to Emirates Stadium. Thrilled
"Arsenal is a big club that everyone wants to play for. I am thrilled and it will be nice to play for such a team," Martins told The Sun.
"But, now that I am a Newcastle player, there is nothing much to say. If it is true, both clubs would have to reach an agreement.
"Is Arsenal a good club? Yes. Would I love to play there? Probably, if Newcastle are ready to listen to them. But if Newcastle says no then it'll be no.
"Because I still have a contract, I expect the club to speak to me when I get back. I am not saying I want to go but, if anything happens, that's football." |

I am really sceptical about Martins... He doesn't have a very good attitude and may be a disruption in the dressing room, a disruption we certainly don't need what with Ade, Hleb and in some ways Gallas being a pain in the backside... And it would be yet another player we'd lose to the ACoN ffs...
But... If Martins is given the service needed to latch onto chances, do I think he'd be a 30+ goals a season striker??... IMO no... The most he's got in a season is 22 at Inter...
I think we could do better personally...
Toure de Emirates - July 5, 2008 10:14 AM (GMT)
I like Martins. When he plays well the team plays really well, but sadly at Newcastle last season he didn't play that well and Newcastle struggled. If you notice in 2006/07 when Martins was playing well and scoring, Newcastle were winning more games. I'm not saying that Newcastle are a one man team, but Martins is a big player for them and they need him to perform well week in week out.
I think he could do a great job at Arsenal, with a better squad than at Newcastle and we would create loads of chances for him.

Overrated, wasteful striker. Not a good signing.

When he was in the Inter team, when he plays for Nigeria and the fact that people have tried to shoot him to death (If that's a real phrase) when he's over there...
He's basically Eto'o but not as good... A pain in the arse
Jimi @ the Emirates - July 5, 2008 12:36 PM (GMT)
Ahhhhh! Im sick and tired of seeing his name mentioned with us all the sodding time.
NO-bafemi Martins!!!
