Title: Arsene Wenger Get's his Excuses Out
Professor Zim - June 22, 2008 08:57 PM (GMT)
1st he wanted to sign all players before the Euro's, then he wanted to check out the players there. Now they're too expensive and it seems he just wants to keep what we have.
He found 5 million to splash out on a youngster who is nowhere near ready, maybe he should have kept hold of it and spent it on someone established. Now don't get me wrong the youngster might be good and i'm all for the signing, but not if it means we don't get any players who are more established in.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits he is more likely to spend his summer transfer cash on the battle to keep hold of his wantaway Gunners stars.
Wenger has been watching Euro 2008 as he considers new signings to help the Gunners end a three-year wait for silverware and he has been linked with a move for Russia ace Andrei Arshavin.
However, the Frenchman fears he will not have enough financial clout to compete with Europe's biggest clubs in the transfer market and confesses he will focus his attention on ensuring the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor remain in England.
Wenger - who was forced to watch on as Mathieu Flamini agreed a free transfer to AC Milan - now faces a battle to avoid losing Adebayor to a big-money move to the San Siro, but the Arsenal boss insists he will do all he can to keep hold of his star striker.
"I brought my chequebook (to Euro 2008) but, having looked at the prices, I've realised it isn't big enough," Wenger - who is also hoping to keep hold of Alexander Hleb - said in the Sunday Mirror.
"I've not been surprised by the quality on show. There is a fantastic young generation of players coming through.
"But I will use my chequebook first to keep the players I already have." |

I disagree, I think we need to bring in some good players who can make the difference, or else it'll be more of the same IMO.

It's something he has been hinting at all along.

Oh I didn't know Lehmann and Flamini were joined to the hip :dunce:

so you want him to go out and spend loads of money on new players while letting the ones we have go
Players that will take a year to be ready for the team instead of established pklayers who nearly won us the league last year
Cripps - June 23, 2008 08:38 AM (GMT)
Lehmann was always going to go. Why would Wenger want to keep someone that he had already told can go?

to be honest he said he would go and now realises he will be hard pushed to keep what he has - let alone add to it.
Though it sounds a lot like tire kicking and bleating about the credit crunch in a hope that the car salesman doesnt get too excited and might give you a discount

I think what he wants is for him to stick to the words he came out with on the 12th may. That being keeping the squad together and adding 2 or three quality experienced players, getting rid of defensive naievity. However ticket renewal date has expired now so we can get the old crib sheets out again.

That very much depends. Whether people want to accept it ot not, we have been lied to for a few seasons now. That may sound harsh and may not sit comfortably with people, but that is exactly what has and is happening. Someone, some people are lying to us. They are the ones that make the brash and bold claims about buying players, they're the ones that promise world class signings, players of great ability, they give the timescales for these players to be signed, they are the ones that say money has never been refused for signings, yet they are the ones that continually and consistently fail to deliver their promises. If they said nothing then it wouldn't be a problem. Some fans like to call it famous wenger smokescreens, it ain't smokescreens, it's bullshit and we get fed it every single season.

Not really.
To suggest that Arsenal haven't signed quality players isn't just false, it's laughable.

No not really, they've signed un proven players, yet to prove and establish themselves. They've signed players that do not have the or have yet shown the quality needed to win trophies and players that are not in the same class as the players they've been brought into replace. To suggest they are or have is not just false, it's laughable.
