Title: Senna

The club have already been heavily linked with Valencia duo David Villa and winger David Silva since the season’s end during what has been a frantic summer transfer window for Arsenal with a string of high-profile players being linked with moves into and out of the Emirates Stadium.

<!--[endif]-->
Both Villa and Silva have showed good form during this summer’s Euro 2008 tournament in Austria and Switzerland as Spain made it through to the last four of the competition, where they will face Russia tonight.

<!--[endif]-->
But 31-year-old Senna, a holding midfielder, has also impressed in providing a platform for the Spanish flair players to build from and according to reports in the British media he has caught the eye of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

Senna may not seem like the glamorous signing many Arsenal fans are hoping for, but towards the end of last season, as Arsenal’s bid for major honours fell short, a lack of experience was cited as the club’s young players ran out of steam as they games increased in volume.

And with Mathieu Flamini having already joined AC Milan on a free transfer, Senna could prove to be the ideal replacement in the Gunners’ midfield, although suggestions that Wenger is willing to pay up to £10 million for the player may be wide of the mark.

Any move to sign Senna would prove to be a change of direction for French boss Wenger who usually snaps up the continent’s young talent and only tends to offer players over thirty one-year-contracts.

<!--[endif]-->
Senna, who is 32 next month, was a major target for Manchester United two summer’s ago, but Sir Alex Ferguson was unable to land his man after Villarreal ensured that they would not let their man depart easily.

Hhmm
Exeprience will be beneficial.
But I doubt we will pay that much for someone his age

decent player tho.

Toure de Emirates - June 26, 2008 06:48 PM (GMT)
Wouldn't mind...

Aaron Fabregas - June 26, 2008 06:52 PM (GMT)
Cracking player, but Gilbo would do the same job,
and anyway, I'd rather see Denilson/Song/Diaby given a go there.

I'm confident they could all do what Flams did for us, with Diaby and Song being more physical but maybe less mobile.

Cripps - June 26, 2008 06:52 PM (GMT)
No improvement on Gilberto

Yup, agree with that.

Toure de Emirates - June 27, 2008 09:09 AM (GMT)
Was good last night for Spain.

The Emirates Gallastico - June 27, 2008 09:16 AM (GMT)
If he'd adapt, he'd be miles better than Gilberto.

Wouldn't mind him as a stopgap unless one of the three improve or we get in someone shit hot like Veloso :loveblush:

LuvMeGooners - June 27, 2008 11:21 AM (GMT)
Senna??

Never good on corners! :haha:

Another one of Goal.com's imaginative articles I see...

Marc Overmars - June 27, 2008 12:11 PM (GMT)
Really impressive showing by him these last few weeks. TBH though, as mentioned above we already have our experienced pro to call up on.

Senna was touted around after the World Cup, almost joined the Mancs I think. That was the time to go in for him.

32 years old? absolutely no interest

tigerthesmurf85 - June 30, 2008 07:19 PM (GMT)
Old, but good.

sunnyarse - June 30, 2008 07:43 PM (GMT)
Senna was the primary person keeping Russian star Arshavin quiet in Spain's semifinal, and also helped mark Ballack in the final, and yet managed to get the ball up the field in both games - though he did fluff a couple chances himself. He can still do that tireless man-marking that Gilberto doesn't have legs for anymore. Would be good to get him, but also doubt (as many here) that Wenger would go for a 31-yr old.

fari - June 30, 2008 11:48 PM (GMT)
looked good in a 2-3 week tourney like this..but does he have the legs for the hustle and bustle (i love that phrase) of the premiership...yo creo que no

Cripps - June 30, 2008 11:53 PM (GMT)
Does fine for Villarreal in a league better than here

elreactor - July 1, 2008 12:18 AM (GMT)
I think Senna is good.

I also think Senna shouldn´t play for Arsenal.

There must be better options. Let him stay with Pellegrini.

Cripps - July 1, 2008 12:19 AM (GMT)
Id agree with that

They've made a story out of that - impressive.

SPAIN star Marcos Senna is a summer target for Arsenal.

The defensive midfielder would be the ideal replacement for Mathieu Flamini, who left North London to join AC Milan last month.

Ex-Gunner Pascal Cygan, who is now Senna's team-mate at Villareal, revealed Arsene Wenger is keen on the Euro 2008 ace.

Cygan said: “I have heard that Arsenal are interested in him.

“That proves how good he is, as they rarely make mistakes.

“Senna is Villarreal’s best player, he is sharp, starts all the plays and is more technically gifted that most players at his position.

“He had a massive impact on Spain’s European victory and improved a lot as a player in the last two seasons.”

No improvement on Gilberto

The Emirates Gallastico - July 2, 2008 05:59 AM (GMT)
Far more dynamic than Gilberto, which is what we need.

I think he's better than Gilberto too

(Well, that's not quite true, because I don't know a lot about Senna. Let's say this: his performance at the Euros was better than Gilberto last year for the Arsenal.)

But it doesn't make sense for us to have both Senna and Gilberto. It would only make sense if we sold Gilberto.

And, even then, I wonder if Gilberto would still be more valuable for us because he knows our team and our league inside out.

Czech Out Rosicky - July 2, 2008 07:01 PM (GMT)
if we wanted him, hes 32 so do we just give him one year contract and see him walk away if things go wrong?

 at The Sun

I will snub Arsenal - WTF?? Where exactly did he say anything about Arsenal??

Granted if he's signing on again where he is, then he's not coming (thank christ), I just don't know where they get these things from!!!
