Title: Group 6
Description: Croatia, England, Ukraine, Belarus, etc

Cripps - June 26, 2008 10:41 PM (GMT)
Croatia
England
Ukraine
Belarus
Kazakhstan
Andorra

England to win it cos of the Capello factor.

Expect Croatia to be in 2nd and to qualify via the play offs.

Wont be surprised if Ukraine beat both of them at home but their away form wont be the best.

Hleb and co will be making up the numbers

The Merse - June 28, 2008 12:09 PM (GMT)
I hope Croatia go through. It'll be a victory for football!

marc - July 9, 2008 02:27 PM (GMT)
Croatia will win it, england will get beat in the playoffs and I will ejactulate!!

Then during the SA world cup we will only have to put up with 73 interviews with the england manager despite them not even being involved in the competition. Whilst the EBC shell out a whole 45 quid to get Dougie Donelly and Andy Walker in to present the Scotland games.

LET me get this straight — I think Fabio Capello is a great coach.
He has been at the top of his game for years

and I’ve no doubts he will get us to the next World Cup finals.

I certainly don’t want to fall out with him.

But no one can hide from the fact England’s performance against the Czech Republic was poor. A massive disappointment, not good enough.

Our next game is a World Cup qualifier against Andorra and if we can’t beat them, then I think everyone involved in the team should pack in football and do something else.

After Wednesday’s match at Wembley, Fabio said the formation was 4-3-2-1.

He insisted Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney were both playing behind Jermain Defoe although, to be honest, this confused me.

Firstly, the last time I heard of 3-2-1 was that show with Ted Rogers and Dusty Bin.

Secondly, Gerrard seemed to be playing on the left wing with David Beckham on the right and Frank Lampard and Gareth Barry in the centre.

I’d say that was a four-man midfield. Without doubt, Gerrard playing where he was against the Czechs is no good to anyone. He has to be in central midfield where he is world class and can cause the opposition so many problems.

Capello has to get the right shape and as soon as possible. I want England to play 4-5-1, not the formation we tried against the Czechs or 4-4-2.

International football has changed and it has to be with one forward up front with the midfielders shooting forward.

I want Lampard and Gerrard in the centre of midfield so they can press forward. I want a holding midfielder player sat in front of the defence.

At the moment it is Barry, who can kill the ball and pass it. He started out as a central defender, anyway.

I’d have Joe Cole on the left and Rooney on the right. They would both be coming in off the line, joining in with the frontman.

Who we play up front is being seen as the problem. I might be biased but I’d have Crouchie. He can get hold of the ball, cause problems and bring others into play.

He was disappointed at not being involved for this match but I’ve told him to carry on, work hard and he’ll soon get back into the squad. I’ve no doubt about that as he can be a key player for England.

As for the defence, I’d stick with the one we had on Wednesday while I’d keep Jamo in goal.

It is still so difficult to put your finger on why we do not perform internationally.

These are the best guys I’ve seen in years and I find it amazing they don’t seem to produce the same form for England. It is very difficult to get to the bottom of it — it also really frustrates me.

After what should be a mismatch against Andorra, we go to Croatia on September 10.

We’ll draw in Croatia, at the very least. We have better players than Croatia — much better players — so everyone should not be too pessimistic despite our display the other day.

We will raise our game. How many of those Croatians would get into our team?

They play more as a team, I’ll admit, and they are all great lads. But we have more quality.

They beat us 3-2 in our final Euro qualifier but that’s only because we fielded an inexperienced keeper — Scott Carson — in what was a major, major match.

His mistake cost us in a game we should have won comfortably.

I know Capello’s job is not easy but he will eventually work things out. At the moment, he is still learning about the players.

This is the best group we’ve had for years and our best chance to win something.

We have to achieve something and that is why we are relying on you, Fabio.

Harry Redknapp showing everyone what is wrong with England today. The arrogance is pathetic.

Better players than Croatia? No we dont. How many of theirs would get in to our team? All of them.

No they beat England xos they were better than us, not cos of an inexperienced keeper.

Thank feck this guy isnt England manager

He also wants to play Rooney on the right. Hes shite in his natural position. What makes Harry think he can do a job in another?

Stick to what you know best, Harry old son. Thats dodgy dealings

England didn't lose only because they played Carson in goal - they lost because Croatia outplayed them and tore them to shreds!

"Should have won comfortably" Don't know about that, Croatia won the first game quite convincingly. And it wasn't just his mistake, it was poor from the whole team. Lampard and Gerrard went missing in midfield.

Oh and Croatia being far better that night than England might have had a bit to do with it

Just another load of old crap.

All they will do yet again is try and scrape through it with the same tired old team.

The sooner we ditch the same load of old crap and throw young players like Agbonlahor, Ashley Young, Theo etc into the deep end the better.

We need fresh ideas.

Yes they are untried, but it's been proven that the rest of them are a load of old cack together.

Oh, and please just play Joe Cole behind the strikers. He's the only creative player England have right now (until Jack steps into the fray).

Brown-----------Ferdinand----------Terry-----------Cashley

That is the likely team. Where is Hargreaves, Carrick and Owen?

They'll beat Andorra but Croatia will be tricky.

Theo Walcott could be handed a shock starting role in Fabio Capello's first competitive match as England boss here tomorrow.

Walcott is being lined up to start instead of David Beckham when England kick off their World Cup qualifying campaign against minnows Andorra.

Capello is toying with the idea of resting Beckham for the game against the no-hopers of European football where anything other than a win is unthinkable.

His selections have been notoriously hard to predict and he is still considering the merits of Beckham, Walcott and Tottenham's David Bentley for the place on the right of the England midfield.

Even though Walcott has already won two England caps, it would be the biggest test of his career so far if he were to get the nod tomorrow.

The last time England played Andorra in Barcelona's Olympic Stadium, the arena turned into a bear-pit with abuse hurled at players and under-fire former boss Steve McClaren.

The atmosphere will be different this time but there will still be pressure on England's struggling superstars to turn in a sparkling performance so that they can travel to Zagreb in good heart for the crunch tie against Croatia next Wednesday.

It is thought Capello wants to keep former England skipper Beckham fresh for that match and is leaning towards Walcott as his replacement.

Walcott, 19, has started four of Arsenal's five competitive games this season and has impressed England's Italian boss.

Capello has been experimenting in training this week with playing him on the right of midfield with Middlesbrough's Stewart Downing on the left.

He has become increasingly concerned with the lack of pace in the England side and knows that Walcott's presence would remedy that.

That means England's youngest-ever player has sneaked ahead of Bentley in the race to be Beckham's stand-in tomorrow.

Rio out of the game against Andorra.

No injury but Fergie gave orders

KaiserKolo - September 5, 2008 05:59 PM (GMT)
Pletikosa < James

Corluka > Brown/Neville
Kovac < Ferdinand
Simic < Terry

Pranjic > A Cole
Rakitic > J Cole
Modric > Lampard
Srna > Beckham
N Kovac < Barry

Olic > Heskey
Petric < Rooney

Croatia have much better technical footballers, they are more intelligent in finding space and gelling together with other players.

you would think england would know better then to play long balls up to two midgets

Yossarian - September 6, 2008 06:47 PM (GMT)
0 - 0 at half time. Abosultely dire. We're being held by a team of builders and postmen.

Tactis seem to be, pass it around for a while and then give it to Downing who plays a long looping ball into the area which the keeper just collects. Walcott is the only one who's looked half decent. They should give it to him and make him run at the fullback. As usual Barry (20 million :haha: ) and Lampard (151 K a week :haha:) have as much creativity as Denilson and Eboue.

Yeah he's been one of England's better players, though thats not saying much. He set up Rooney who really should of scored and has created a couple of openings with his pace.
