Title: Group 9
Description: Holland, Scotland, Norway, FYR Macedonia
Cripps - June 26, 2008 10:48 PM (GMT)
Holland
Scotland
Norway
FYR Macedonia
Iceland
Holland and Norway top 2.
Other teams are lambs to the slaughter
Although i wouldnt mind Scotland getting 2nd place but still not getting a play off place cos they were the worst runners up.
I do think the worst runners up will be from this group.
Will we see another 6-0 in a Holland v Scotland game?
marc - July 9, 2008 12:14 PM (GMT)
I think Macedonia are the real threat for 2nd in this group.
Holland should win the Group but we did beat them 1-0 the last time we played them at Hampden with a weaker team than we have now and we had Vogts in charge so we certainly can expect to take something from the two games, espescially in Amsterdam cos I'm going :woohoo:.
Norway are Norway so we know exactly what to expect. I see us on a similar level to Norway but if we keep our momentum going I'm confident we can take 4 points off them.
Macedonia are the tricky ones for us. We are shit when travelling to eastern europe and i don't see this being any different. I'd take a win and a loss now if I could.
Iceland, well we never make it easy against Iceland but we always just do enough and I see no reason for that to change.
Overall, I think we'll come 2nd with about 15 points (holl 2 pts, norway 4pts, FYROM 3pts, Iceland 6pts) which I think will see us just fall short of a play off.
I'm always negative when it comes to Scotland though - a defence mechanism I think.
It never works out the way you expect though so i wouldn't be suprised if we pumped holland then lost to iceland.
Coca Kolo - July 9, 2008 12:18 PM (GMT)
we'll go through, Uncle George will take us to South Africa, I'm sure.
:good:
Cripps - July 9, 2008 12:19 PM (GMT)
Didt Holland beat you 6-0 he last time you played them and you had a better team then seeing as that one actually reached the play offs

Aye, they beat us 6-0 in Amsterdam. That's why I said "the last time we played them at Hampden" :good:
We have a better team now. On a player by player basis few would argue that team is even equal to our current squad. The fact that team got to the playoffs is irrelevant as this team has not had the opportunity to get there yet so there is no comparison to be made.

Really? You got a link??
That's fcuking fantastic for us. That prick fcuks up our midfield. Hartley and 2 of fletcher/brown/robson is far more productive for us.
Not to mention that he pulls out with 'injuries' constantly only to play for rangers days later and when he does play all he does is run 20 yards to take the ball from a teammate to then pass it 3 yards to someone else  ruining our shape and balance.
Captain my arse! He should never wear the jersey again!!!

I watched the replay of your game against Italy and from where I was watching Ferguson was your man of the match that day, he even got your goal.
"Hartley and 2 of fletcher/brown/robson is far more productive for us."
Brown, is that the guy who all the hype was about last year?
I'm sure I read somewhere that he was the next big thing to come out of Scotland, only for him to goto Glasgow Celtic and do nothing.
I work with a guy from Edinbrugh and he was telling me that the guy Thomson, who played in the same team as Brown is a far better player.

He did have one of his better games against Italy (but if you're going on one-off game watch the game in Italy - probably the worst performance by any player since the Vogts era) but on the whole he is a constant dissapointment and the number of times he pulls out of the squad is disgusting! He's supposed to be our captain but he can only be arsed turning up for the big games. Not fcuking good enough!!
Overall he inhibits other players and I for one think we are a better team without him!
As for Brown, he certainly was hyped and underperformed for Celtic last year but it was a massive step up for him and I don't think many people have concerns as their is no doubting his ability.
I like Thompson too but I don't thimk he's got the class of the others I've mentioned.
Hartley, in the DM role is the one definate starter for me and Robson, purely based on his form form Celtic deserves a place.
I would play Fletcher but the fact that he is too much of a pussy to tell Ferguson to fcuk right off when they play together gets on my tits however now that Ferguson is out this won't be a problem.
BergkampsPilot - July 16, 2008 08:06 AM (GMT)
Some would say Thomson and Robosn have been the best two centre midfield players in Scotland this season, would you agree?
From what i've seen of Hartley I can't agree that he should be a definate starter, I mean if I remember correctly it was him that switched off for Italy's first goal.
He was ball watching at the edge of the box and didn't close his man down, now 2 minutes into the game that's just not good enough, especially from someone in such a key position.

I dunno if i would agree with that. Thompson at Hibs was class, maybe Ferguson is stiffling him too at Ibrox but then he's really just cemented his place so I hope he pushes on. Robson I do agree with.
You've got a point about Hartley for that goal but be fair, in the other big games like France and Ukraine he has been immense and anyway there is no one else to play his role, hence he is a definate starter.
I think it's brilliant that we can actually debate about CM selection considering we struggled to fill these positions a few years ago with Chrisian Daily a regular FFS.
Now we have a core of players that we can flank with our many average players and still do well.
As long as we have Gordon, Hutton, Hartley, Faddy and Boyd in the line up I think we have a chance agaist anyone.
We need defenders though. Weir is getting on and I have little faith in McManus. Hopefully Webster gets over his injuries.LB is a big problem but I'm hoping Steven Smith can get back to the form he showed before he got injured.
Left wing is a problem too. McCullooch is gash and Maloney has showed no signs of the form he was in before he moved to Villa.
Overall though I'm optimistic!!
you??

The reason I mention Thomson is because I think he is the best defensive midfielder Scotland has at the moment, that's why I can't agree that Hartley is a definite starter, not with Thomson around.
I don't see where you get your love for Hartley, yes he has had a few decent games but the same could be said about a lot of players, he is too inconsistent for me. I've seen him for his club also and its the same scenario, raises him game for certain matches then goes missing in the majority of others.
You mention Webster and Smith but both these players have been plagued by injuries most of their short career's, I just can't see either of them fulfilling what potential they once shown. I suppose time will tell on that one.
There are a lot of positives but I think Burley has to find the right balance and formation and stick with it, I just hope he doesn’t go down the lone striker route.

He may well be, in the league. But Hartely has delivered time and again for Scotland so he can't be dropped.

I can see why some on here have taken a disliking to you marc, I would say it's you that’s more of a dick but I will not be drawn into a petty squabble or name-calling.
I do work with a guy from Edinburgh, he is also a Hibs fan and we both agree on Thomson, far better player than Hartley or Brown. You say he may be better only in the league, which is true for the reason that Thomson hasn’t been given his chance for his country yet, when that time comes I feel Hartley will lose his place.
The fact that I may or may not be a Rangers fan, what does that have to do with the situation?
marc - July 16, 2008 10:57 AM (GMT)
Listen fud
YOU tried to hide the fact you were Scottish (although rangers fans rarely consider themselves Scottish eh, the dirty monarchy loving loyalist scum bastards!). Cripps had to point it out after you referred to Scotland as 'you'
THEN you tried to hide the fact that you're a rangers fan. Why???
I would've have taken your opinions on board either way with no pre-conceived ideas about bias but noooooooooooooooooooooo, you had to be a fanny didn't you???

Give the childish name calling a rest mate, it doesn’t make you sound clever. :blah:
After reading your comments about Ferguson it sounded like you maybe have a bias or dislike towards him and maybe even Rangers and going by your previous comments it’s clear my assumptions were spot on.
I guess I was trying to put my views across without you jumping to conclusions that because I am a Rangers fan my views are therefore bias, which incidentally they are not.

I must say i'm really disappointed with the inclusion of Callum Davidson and Gavin Rae as they are both fuckin mung chowder, also the boy Barr is a bit of a shock, he hasn’t really done anything to merit a call up. Those 3 players aside it’s pretty much as expected.
