Title: Arsenal v Spurs: Bias in the sports press

FROM SPORTLINGO.......

At this time of year all footie fans are glued to the news streams, seeing who is coming and who is going. Every team has players moving on to pastures new and fresh legs coming through the door to improve the side.

But who gets to decide if the transfers are good or bad for the club? Not the ticket-buying fan and certainly not the manager. No, the press constantly dictate and give their spin on how the team are going to fare in the coming season.

To give an example – and I would say at this point I am a Gooner – Arsenal have lost Mathieu Flamini and Alex Hleb from their first team, plus Gilberto Silva and Jens Lehmann from the subs bench. This apparently has “plunged the club into crisis” in spite of the return of several key players from long-term injuries and the purchase of at least two exciting talents.

Spurs, on the other hand, have just let four midfielders go en masse, fully expect Dimitar Berbatov and Robbie Keane to move out, and similarly have made two good new signings. What does the press say about this? “Well done Ramos for rebuilding”.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not anti-Spurs or any team about this. It just gets up my nose that journos can't stick to the facts without trying to whip up a storm. I’m all for having an informed opinion, but get back to your job of reporting SPORTS, not fantasies.

They talk like that about Arsenal as we are a bigger club and have more expected from us. Why would the press get overly excited about a mid table club losing their main striker?
