GUNNERS HIT TOON INLER BID
By Alan Nixon
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is making a late move for Switzerland Euro 2008 star Goekhan Inler - and is fighting Newcastle United for his signature.

Wenger has been in contact with the Udinese ace's camp and has lear ned the clever attacking midfielder has a get-out clause at just over £5 million.

Inler's agent has been in talks with Newcastle for over a fortnight. But now Arsenal have come in the deal will hinge on who offers the best terms.

The Toon are fuming as they thought they had a deal. But Wenger's interest has set them back.

Inler is vastly cheaper than Aston Villa's Gareth Barry, who interests Wenger - but not at the £18m asking price.

The Swiss star is equally capable and rated the most gifted player in his homeland. He also coped well with Serie A and is an Arsenal type of player - full of skill and good vision.

The People

Another shite paper.

KaiserKolo - July 27, 2008 06:29 PM (GMT)
He is a decent player who had a great year but will Udinese let go of another of their highly rated players? Nevermind the depth of the rumours, if he is the target then we should be pleased.

Jyze123 - July 27, 2008 06:43 PM (GMT)
Bollocks.

We dont need another attacking midfielder! We need a defensive one.

He is a DM...

Da Silva Lining - July 27, 2008 06:57 PM (GMT)
From what I remember of the Euros he played pretty deep with Fernandes further forward, so I think he's more defensive.

Edit - just seen the bit in the article saying he's attacking, think not for the first time The People have got that wrong.

Never seen him play, so can't say whether he's good enough or not. At least he has international experience to is not a novice.

According to several sources the highly rated Inler has agreed terms with English Giants Arsenal and Arsene Wenger is set to activate Inlers £5m release clause in order to sign the player from Udinese. He is expected to be unveiled as Arsenals third major signing of the summer in the coming days and is expected to fill the void left by departed midfielders Mathieu Flamini and Gilberto Silva.[4

Inler ... he's a traitorous rat but at the end of the day still one of Ataturk's children.

I'd love him to come to the Arsenal. :loveblush:

Da Silva Lining - July 29, 2008 07:40 AM (GMT)
We've made a £5m bid according to the Mail, activating his release clause :coffee:

Aaron Fabregas - July 29, 2008 10:38 AM (GMT)
He's a class player, and could offer more than Flams IMO, such as height and physical prescence.

If we get him for £5mil, then AW really should get a CB too, cos he's scamping out on the Flam/Gil replacement.

Da Silva Lining - July 29, 2008 10:40 AM (GMT)
He's only about an inch taller than Flams but I haven't seen him play much tbh, is he good in the air?

Aaron Fabregas - July 29, 2008 10:46 AM (GMT)
hes 5'11 and a half - he's virtually 6 foot.

And yes he's excellent in the air.

Very strong and quick, tenacious, decent passer - bit better than Flams maybe.

Also is renowned for long range shooting.

I know he isn't the big name people would like, but he'd be a great signing - voted bestt foreign player in Serie A this season too/

mr_gooner - July 29, 2008 10:54 AM (GMT)
Buying Inler would be a good move imo. He's obviously got more of a physical presence in the middle than Flamini and if his engine is as good then we have probably got a better player than Flamini. Also a good point about buying him is that he is not that old and experienced that he blocks the chance of Song, Diaby or Denilson in also staking their claim for the starting place as well as that he is Swiss and therefore will not have to leave for 6 weeks every two years as a player like Yaya would obviously do!

Look's like its a no no then, as their president says it is just rumours and nothing else.
The only way to believe in any transfer story is when it is published on the Arsenal website

Like when Barry arrives :tumbleweed:
