Title: Wenger Says Title Race Is Back On.

Wenger says title race is back on.
From http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...tm#startcontent

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says Manchester United's defeat of Chelsea has turned the race for the Premiership title back into a genuine contest.

Chelsea's surprise defeat ended their 40-game unbeaten run in the Premiership and reduced their lead to six points.

"It's good for the Premier League - it makes it open again and more interesting," said Wenger.

"Of course, it's not done yet - Chelsea still have a fair distance on everyone else but it gives us some hope again."

Arsenal trail Chelsea by 11 points although they do have a game in hand, with Premiership new boys Wigan the closest challengers.

Since the 1-1 draw with Everton on 23 October ended their flawless start to the Premiership season, Chelsea have lost to Real Betis in the Champions League, been knocked out of the Carling Cup by Charlton and lost to United.

The 4-2 Premiership win over Blackburn was Chelsea's only win from their last five games.

Wenger has undergone a well-publicised feud with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho - conducted through the media - in recent weeks.

And the Arsenal boss added that Chelsea's recent dip in form only served to highlight Arsenal's achievement in going an entire Premiership season unbeaten in 2003-04.

"I feel the outstanding record is to go a whole season unbeaten and people will maybe realise later what that record means," he said.

"It shows how difficult it is to beat that. It highlights our consistency and how much quality we have shown."

The Gunners face Chelsea on 18 December, but Wenger warned his players not to look to far into the future.

"If we beat Chelsea next month but lose our games before that, it would have no meaning," said Wenger.

It isn't over yet, but it will be the hardest, greatest, and most memorable comeback ever. A team with players like Chelsea have - so far infront, so early on.. and naff up.. only at the hands of Arsenal. That would be sweet!!

GoonerMush - November 15, 2005 11:15 PM (GMT)
Afc, do you have a vivid imagination????

Try this for size.

If either Arsenal or Spurs get to the FA Cup semi final its possible that Arsenal V Spurs could be the last ever game at Highbury (Fact).

Imagine Thierry Henry striding through the Spurs defence in the 90th minute to score the last ever goal in the last ever game at Highbury to secure the title!!!

It could happen.....remember Anfield in 89??

I love day dreaming :D

I've heard about Anfield '89, I was merely in my mummies tubby until a magical night on the 18th September!!

Great days indeed! That super night at Anfield! I was at college, couldn't bare to listen to the game, went out on my motorbike to try to take my mind off it. Phoned my girlfriend, who told me the Gunners were 1-0 up, so I rushed home to catch the last 15 minutes or so. As Micky slotted the second past GROB? I leapt so high into the air that I broke my bed in half when I landed on it! Never forget that, pain and joy in the same second! Brilliant. Do it again Gunners!

Title race is back on !

Is it fook!

Race for 2nd, 3rd and 4th maybe. I guarantee the top three won't be the same at the end of the season as it is now.

Bolton will be 2nd. lol:

Why is it not back on Plod??

If we win our game in hand the gap is down to 8, then beat Chelsea at Highbury in a few weeks the gap down to 5 points.

Not that much of a gap really is it.

If they carry on their current form, we could well have caught them by Christmas.

It may not happen, but you can't just dismiss it like that!

Course I can dismiss it like that mush, it called opinion. If, scary prospect to them I know, but if, Chelski are not in the dominant lead that they expect by Christmas they will buy in January, even if it is to jeopardise other teams chances to get get true quality in for the title push.

They have bought the league, and it will be two or three seasons before anyone can compete with them on a regular basis. Bit like United in the 90's. Who could touch them. Consistently.

I admit, Chelsea are not all powerful but they are the class in the league this season. There are three or four first team players who will improve over the next three or four years. Scary isn't it.

What is does do is open the door to the other teams.

Chelsea, ManU and Arsenal, could play their own mini-league to see who wins. After that there will be a group of about eight teams all fighting for 4th to 6th. Hopefully Bolton will compete in that group consistently. Who knows a bit of progress in Europe and some pennies in the bank and we may even become leaders of that group.

But realistically the league is Chelsea's, unless Arsenal can pull out £200m to re-do the team, then they may beat them, but not win the league.

Of course that is just my opinion.

:fight: :fight:

GoonerMush - November 17, 2005 12:27 AM (GMT)
And a fine opinion it is too, however, just because Chelsea have cash to splash around doesn't mean they will take the league.......just ask Real Madrid.

I think we will find out over the next 2 months whether Chelsea are all they've cracked up to be. Up until a few weeks ago Moroninho didn't know what it was like in England to go through a bad spell, he didn't know how bad the media can be, and i gurantee if Chelsea fail to beat Newcastle (i think it is) this week end, Chelsea will struggle to win the league.

Confindence is a brittle thing, a couple a small knocks and its shattered......just look at Arsenal last season.

If they can weather the storm over the next month or so, then its more than likely they'll go on to win.

But if we can beat them.......doubts will creep in and i think we'll be in for a cracking season.

First up however.......Wigan!

BTW, Bolton leader of the group?? :shakehead:

Can but dream :D

Can't see a confidence crisis approaching, they know they will lose a game or two. They even know that they will lose against mediocre teams. Every dog has it's day. But they will win the league because they have the best team in depth, an able manager and the ability to buy if needed.

But let us wait until the Boxing Day games. Before giving them the title.

I can see where your coming from but they only have one win in 5 and if newcastle can take something from them, their next 5 games are Pompey, Boro, Wigan and The mighty Gunners. We can beat them and Boro seem to enjoy a spot of giant killing this season (bastards).

Like you say though, come the Chritmas period everything will be a whole lot clearer!

It's nice dreaming eh :D

Mr Mark The Romford Gooner - November 17, 2005 02:30 PM (GMT)
the title race is never over before christmas just remember 98 what were we 11 points behind man utd and who were the champions that season ??
I think we will be stronger from now on and just like us last season chelsea will wobble like they have recently if the geordie boys can take anything away from stamford bridge then it truely is game on
Heres hoping

plodder - November 20, 2005 08:18 PM (GMT)
I tell you, that was one hell of a wobble. Only one win in five then come back with 3-0 againt Newcastle.

What was the difference between the sides. One side made mistakes. One side punished those mistakes.

Nope sorry guys, race you to second. If we beat Brum tomorrow we could do it!

By about 30 points :D

:wanker: I gotta agree with plod im affraid. It's hard to admit but it's only for second place.

However some time soon the pointless team they call Bolton will fall away from the top half of the league and hopefully out of it.So there will be 1 less thug team in the league

Gooner_No_1 - November 21, 2005 05:03 PM (GMT)
Soz disagree with plod and fats, we are well in with a shout and you'd better bloody beleive it, few draws and a couple of defeats thats all we are talking about and its November, what is up with you doubtmeisters.

We are well capable of going on a unbeaten run and they are well capabel of slipping up.

Historically (look it up) apart from last season Chavski are well known for letting things slip[ at Christmas, they have serious form for it. :arse:

Yes Gunnermush, good days indeed. Mind you the best have got to be under AW
