I'm using firefox and the bottom scroll (to scroll from left to right) isn't appearing when I use gw - any ideas?

I use Firefox at home and the only problem I'm aware of is that the floating menu doesn't work properly (the menus don't drop down if you're not at the top of the page). I did have a quick look a while back but didn't get that far. I'll come back to that.

Why would you use a scroll bar at the bottom? Do you mean in a thread like "this picture needs updating" where the image is a bit large and the page does scroll left to right?

No but press the right arrow key and you can scroll across that way.
