Title: RUGBY
Description: LEAGUE & UNION WEEKEND

Gubby-Allen - November 14, 2008 10:59 PM (GMT)
Hell of a day tomorrow. Vital Arsenal match at the same time as my other passion the England Rugby side against Australia, for one half they'll overlap - won't know what to watch.

England against NZ in the RL WC SF before that though.

I'd take two win out of those three, but can see all 3 coming off.

We haven't even started playing yet in the League & we're in the semis. Roby & Graham back & the right side picked & we might just edge them out.

Then it's the Union, one of the weakest Australian sides in years, struggling badly in 2nd halves against an unknown England. Really could go anyway this one, will depend on how much the Aussie scrum has improved. Reckon it'll be tight for an hour but we'll edge away in the end & quite a few tries.

Ireland will get pummelled by NZ. England by 1-5 in the RL & by 15-20 in the Union.

Didnt england lose 2 games in the group stages?

How are they in the semis?

Bob & Terry - November 14, 2008 11:13 PM (GMT)
I haven't followed the RL but will be watching the big game at Twickenham tomorrow. I hope we win it but the Aussies are a bit miffed about the Olympics and losing to India in the cricket. Should be fun if we play the English ruck and maul way. If we try and play pretty stuff we could suffer.

Villa at home? Always a tough one. They nicked the draw last year but we will surely be better defensively tomorrow? Hope so.

It's an odd one. Scraped past PNG, got enhiliated by the Aussies 54-4, then conceded 30 pts in 50 mins without scoring one last weekend to lose 38-24 (having been 24-8 up after 30 mins).

It's an odd system, Top 3 (of 4) from Pool A go into the Semis, with the best side from Pools B & C.

No matter what way they'd have jigged it we'd have made the semis & would've beaten any of the other sides by 50+ pts.

It's starting to move in the right direction, every single side in the 2 other pools won at least one match and the 7 sides 4-10 are really closely matched & had some fantastic matches.

But NZ & England are a massive level up from that & Australia, well it's their national sport with cricket - they're on a seperate planet. Any RL WC will always be a contest to see who loses to Australia in the final.

We'll prbably play badly, nick it tomorrow by 2 pts, reach a WC final, lose again by 60 pts & leave pretty embarassed.

Their front row have improved by all acounts. Looking forward to seeing Sheridan giving them another beating up front. Not sure about Vickery over Stevo but both will play & should be on top of their loosehead.

I can't ever envisage us trouncing an Aussie side, they jsut have too much steel ie Mortlock for that to ever happen but if it will tomorrow could be when. They were hammered in SA last test (admittedly having won the week before), fell apart again against NZ 2 wks ago & only 10 pts over Italy. Giteau isn't fully fit & the back line looks untested (although so does ours).

Can't wait to see Cipriani go up against Barnes, pity JSD had his customary England injury - he'd have revelled in a match like this.

Bob & Terry - November 14, 2008 11:30 PM (GMT)
Are Mortlock and Giteau playing? Shit. I get nervous enough watching Arsenal on the interweb (illegal sat tv now gone blue) let alone watching the first IV taking on the Aussies.

Maybe I'll work and take my mind off it tomorrow - cash in hand sounds a good option...

Gubby-Allen - November 14, 2008 11:35 PM (GMT)
Free money going with the bookies on the RL by the way. Vatuvei is 17/2 for the first try & 9/4 to score at any time. Got 4 just in last weeks game.

Bob & Terry - November 14, 2008 11:41 PM (GMT)
I'm not big on bookies but it even gets a mention on money saving websites these days. I used to do a couple of quid on a long line in the footie and spent about £20 initially, never got anything big but I started at the start of the 2007 season and the money's just run out so it kept me entertained without killing me for over a year.

Who's got that deal? Assumedly you have to sign up with CC details.

England lost against the Kiwi's in the Rugby League Semi Final.

No Suprize and Aussie v Kiwis final.

I like Rugby League but there is no justification in having a World Cup.

Great Britian is what counts on these shores.

McNamara That Ghost... - November 15, 2008 11:00 AM (GMT)
I think Australia were a better side now than they were in '07.

Interesting to see how Johnson's boys fare in his first real test, no matter how crap Australia are perceived to be!

England 12
All Blacks 31

An improved England but still a steep learning curve. With Cipriani gone England will tighten up. He is too young and erratic at the moment.

Still a heavy loss predicted.

adzzzbatch - November 29, 2008 02:07 PM (GMT)
So then 20 minutes to go, should be interesting.
