Title: Tomas Rosicky
Ach - March 27, 2009 11:12 PM (GMT)
| QUOTE |
TOMAS ROSICKY has admitted for the first time he feared he would never play football again.
Arsenal’s Czech international midfielder is finally on the brink of a Premier League return after 14 months out with a knee injury.
But Rosicky said: “It’s been a very difficult time.
“When you have two operations and are still in constant pain for almost a year, of course I thought I would never play again.
“I had so many scans and saw so many doctors around Europe.
“But now, at last, I know the knee is all right and I will soon play again. And that is such a good feeling.”
Rosicky, 28, ruptured knee ligaments in a 50-50 challenge against Fulham in January last year but did not realise the full extent of the damage for another three months.

Should get a big an ovation as Eduardo got.

He won't though.
I'm excited to see him back, he can give us an edge to finish the season off well, would be my replacement for Arshavin in the CL as well.
Syn - March 27, 2009 11:16 PM (GMT)
When is he expected to be back?
He'll get a great reception - the fans love him.

Why not?
Hes a quality player

Because Eduardo came back from a different injury and many were emotionally 'attached' (for the want of a better word) to him after the thug took him out.
I don't think Arsenal fans are like that with Rosicky.
For the record, I'd like to see him received well when he makes his first appearance, but it won't be of Eduardo style.

Sadly I agree.
Eduardos injury was so well publicized and for all to see live on TV and on the pitch that it sent shockwaves around the Arsenal camp from fan to fan...
Your average Arsenal fan won't even look on a forum and will only see the back of a newspaper and see this horrible image of Eduardos leg in pieces and to come back from an injury as physically and mentally horrific as that in such a short time is something that deserves a tremendous of amount of credit and adulation.
Tomas, despite his tough struggle with recovery and his obvious problems he's physically faced since coming here, is not a "sympathy case" where Average Joe Arsenal can wish him well and look forward to his return.
Sure I think he'll get a good welcome back, but nowhere near the extent of Eduardo... I mean he STILL gets a tremendous welcome on and off the pitch.

I don't feel comfortable in trying to compare 'who had it worst', but any Arsenal fan I've come across recognises that Tomas is a quality player and he has been missed. It's just that he has a history of getting injured which makes fans sympathise with him less...it's not right, but that's the way it is. He's still a fans' favourite though, I think.

Spot on. That attachment from the fans makes a huge difference and sadly, a lot of fans are stuck in 'hindsight mode' when it comes to Ros.
Until he went out for so long, the phrases such as 'his whole career has been one long injury etc' weren't banded about as much but this period of not only him not being available but Arsenal's lack of success has made a lot of fans quite bitter towards the guy. Which I can understand to a point but I think his contribution and potential going forward is something that has been forgotten in the midst of it all.
Iamacockface - March 28, 2009 12:12 AM (GMT)
I'm sure he will get a great ovation. SUPER TOM!
Cygan's Mother - March 28, 2009 03:05 AM (GMT)
I think he's a great player when fit. But I'm really not optimistic about his future as an Arsenal player. I think he's doomed to be a crock for the rest of his career. If he can manage more than 25 games a season from the next one onwards I will be very happy indeed.
If his career hadn't been blemished by so many lengthy injuries, I really think he could have been one of the world's very best. But then, we would never have signed him as a transfer fee of £7 million would have to be multiplied by a very high figure.
And I agree with other posters who say that he won't get the same reception as Eduardo. The situation with Rosicky warrants a lot of sympathy, but human nature dictates that we won't feel so emotional about it. The power of 'those' images cannot be underestimated.
Robin Your Persie - March 28, 2009 11:06 AM (GMT)
Min point he makes is that he got injured during the Fulham game, but the medical staff couldn't identify what it was so he played again on the Wednesday...which led to him rupturing a tendon in his knee duing his first sprint in the game.
Only after surgery 3 months later did they realise that it had completely separated from the bone. They looked in all the medical records but could not identify anyone who had the same kind of injury, so they had no idea how to treat him.
Eventually, he had treatment (surgery) in Germany (Nov), and now he feels he is over the worst. He says his knee is fine now, but he has a groin injury.
The main thing now is to take it carefully in order to avoid the muscle strains that have hindered Eduardo's comeback.
...In summary our medical team were unable to do their job properly. He seems in reasonably good spirits, but perhaps tinged with some disappointment with the medical team.

I remember Gallas had a pop at the medical team in his first season, he was out for about 3 months when it should of been much less.

It does seem pretty bizzare to know a guy is injured though not being able to identify it but then playing him again anyway in the hope it's nothing.

It is incompetence of the highest order. Perhaps Gary Lewin's abducation to the England set-up was in the best interests of both parties..

Rosicky is a coke head, I expect part of his absence is due to some sort of rehab.
Darth Vela - March 28, 2009 01:16 PM (GMT)
Yeah, that seems to be the rumour doing the rounds but if there was any truth in it the media would have picked it up by now and spun it for all it's worth imo, not to say he isn't on coke but if he is it obviously isn't a big problem otherwise there would be a complete shitstorm over it.

Why don't we say the same about every player thats been out with persistent injuries!?!
Adebayor (hamstring) - Nope-he was caught tooting the root?

Dean Ashton - can't stay away from the E's and Whizz
Michael Owen - chasing the dragon...

Let him come back first and even if he does, let him play for a good month or so... I still think he will never come back to his best and has been a waste of $$ for us. Does anyone know the situation with his contract- is this his last season with us in the contract or does he have a year more?

I think that's why there's less sympathy for Rosicky than there has been for Eduardo.
Eduardo's injury was very public and very obviously nasty. We all knew he'd be out for a long long time and with a break that serious, and the associated potential psychological effects, there was some doubt whether he'd ever come back.
Rosicky...I can't even remember any more but I guess he just limped out of a game and ever since then it's been false dawn after false dawn. That's not his fault, from other posts in this thread it sounds like the Arsenal medical staff have messed this up, but it is frustrating to keep on being told that he's nearing return only for it not to happen.
