Description: Sat 11th April. 15:00

So how much rotation with the 2nd leg in mind?

Wigan always give us a game, reckon a draw is on the cards.

Ach - April 4, 2009 03:54 PM (GMT)
Depends on the score in Spain.

Milla - April 4, 2009 04:08 PM (GMT)

I'm hoping for a Steve Bruce vs Zaki boxing match at half time.

Ach - April 6, 2009 02:01 PM (GMT)
Knowing our luck, Zaki comes home, makes up with Bruce and he scores a hat trick

McNamara That Ghost... - April 6, 2009 03:16 PM (GMT)
Would be about time I won a game on Flav's thing.

Wigan v Arsenal

Strangely for a Steve Bruce team, Wigan just capitulated against Everton last week, and you wonder if losing Wilson Palacios and Emile Heskey in January is catching up with them.

Add to that the question of whether Antonio Valencia really sees his long-term future at the club and Amr Zaki's recent behaviour - which is just disgraceful to his fellow pro's - it's not all rosy at the Latics right now.

Arsenal, on the other hand, have got competition for places again with a few coming back from injury and they are hitting form at the right time in their push for a top-four finish, so I fancy them to pinch this one.

Verdict: 1-2

STEVE BRUCE has warned European heroes Arsenal that his Wigan team are not ready to hit the sun loungers just yet.

The Gunners travel to the JJB Stadium on Saturday for a league clash sandwiched in between their two-legged Champions League tie with Villarreal.

The Latics turned in a dismal display at Everton on Sunday — losing 4-0 — when it looked as though they were ready to put their feet up having passed 40 points.

But Bruce has urged his players not to give anyone an easy ride with a Europa Cup spot still an outside possibility.

He said: “I hope the mentality is different now. It’s not enough to think that we’ve done our job.

“We still have seven games, five of them against sides who aren’t safe from relegation.

“We have a lot to play for yet. We want to finish as high as we can and we owe that to the supporters and ourselves.

“Every season a club like ours has to start out with the intention of getting safe but with the good position we are now in, I want us to kick on.

“I will keep on — get back to some hard work on the training ground.”

Bruce has had all week to prepare his team for the visit of Arsene Wenger’s men.

But he added: “I always find it difficult after an international break. A club like ours suffers. We started getting ready for Arsenal yesterday.”

Is RVP fit?

Both he and Eddy are having fitness tests today. I'd have one of them on the bench if needed (they aren't lacking match fitness). I think Theo will be on the bench as well just to let him recover a bit. Cesc will definitely start as he reckons he's 3 games from full fitness. Think your team there is spot on.

If Gibbs impresses he may have a chance for the CL game but I expect Silvestre to play in that and the semi final.

Zaki is out of the squad for them apparently.

Swap Nasri and Ashravin, RVP or Bendtner for Denilson. :good:

Got a feeling this one could end in a draw. Knowing us (and its happened a few times), they will probably have one eye on the return leg on Wednesday and could slip up. We have to focus on each game because Villa only have this weekend game with Everton as an opponent that I'd consider a challenge. Hopefully that will end a draw and we'll have an 8 point gap before we play the top 3. If we aren't still 6 points clear by the time we face the chavs and utd back to back then I'd be concerned.

JackTheLad19 - April 10, 2009 12:06 PM (GMT)
Last season's game there was just frustrating and dire, was in the period where our title chances were killed off. Was a crap pitch and we didn't do anything of note. Hope it's a different game this time round.

I imagine Silvestre at LB (though I hope Gibbs plays or Sagna swaps sides), Eboue to get a game ahead of Theo or Nasri and Eduardo on the bench, don't know about RVP.

Pretty sure Song will play especially as Gallas and Clichy are out and we need his defensive ability

tigerthesmurf85 - April 10, 2009 08:32 PM (GMT)
Maybe Walcott

anfield 1989 - April 11, 2009 02:07 AM (GMT)
Getting up in 4 hours to leave for the train for this game up north.

Going Red Robin pub I think near-ish ground for 1.30pm. Think it will be a tight 1-0 affair tbh.

adzzzbatch - April 11, 2009 10:56 AM (GMT)

If RVP or Eduardo are fit I can see Adebayor starting on the bench today.

Does anyone know the team yet ?

Herbs - April 11, 2009 01:28 PM (GMT)
Ade should definitely start. We need him on form and playing games.

Why the feck is Nasri on the bench, he isn't playing on wednesday...

Herbs - April 11, 2009 01:31 PM (GMT)
Im confident in that team. Looks good, Bendtner needs to take his chances today.

KaiserKolo - April 11, 2009 01:31 PM (GMT)
Woijech Szczesny

He was 3rd choice at the age of 15 at Legia Warsaw where Wookash was 1st choice!
