Title: Portsmouth v Arsenal
Description: Saturday, 2 May 2009 15:00

Ach - April 26, 2009 02:38 PM (GMT)
Its the game between the 2 legs.

Do we play the Carling Cup team and Arshavin?

Or ndo we go all out for the win with aspirations for 3rd?

Let's Twat These Twats™ - April 26, 2009 02:38 PM (GMT)
Carling Cup team with Arshy. :good:

Marc Overmars - April 26, 2009 02:39 PM (GMT)
Probably be the CC team + Arshavin, can't see Wenger risking anyone for this.

Pompey away is always a tough game so I'd rather keep them under wraps tbh.

Jens' Face - April 26, 2009 02:40 PM (GMT)
really depends on the score of the first leg innit?

If we get the 0-5 that I expect, then we should definitely go for third

Ach - April 26, 2009 04:02 PM (GMT)
Fabianski

Eboue Hoyte Silvestre Gibbs

Wilshere Ramsey Randall Arshavin

Bendtner Vela

KaiserKolo - April 26, 2009 04:07 PM (GMT)
Coquelin instead of Randall.

Ach - April 26, 2009 04:08 PM (GMT)
Think Randall should start tbh.

Impressive in the Carling cup and reserves.

More so than Ramsey.

Would be good to see Coquelin though

:sarcy:

Yeah, might as well play a CC team. Vela, Bendtner/Eduardo upfront. Diaby, Eboue and all that in midfield and whatever we can put out in defence.

Coquelin instead of Randall.

No chance of either starting. :good:

all guns blazing - April 29, 2009 09:20 AM (GMT)
What about Eduardo ?

Portsmouth v Arsenal

It's a great time for Portsmouth to have this game with Arsenal's minds on pulling back a goal deficit to Manchester United in the Champions League. They could really put the seal on their season and cement their safety.

Arsenal have nothing really left to play for in the league now and Arsene Wenger may be tempted to try out some of his squad players.

Verdict: 2-1

I'll be very surprised if we win this.

Yeah, we always seem to draw at Pompey or get a tight win. It's always close.

Marc Overmars - April 30, 2009 02:21 PM (GMT)
Plus the small matter of a game on Tuesday might be on our minds. Might as well chuck the kids in and see what they can do.

If we don't win I hope we upset one of the teams below Pompey who complain about us not fielding a strong team. :pal:

Arsène Wenger has been hit by a raft of injury problems as he tries to prepare teams for the trip to Portsmouth on Saturday and the Champions League Semi-Final second leg next week.

Eduardo and Mikael Silvestre (both groin) are out of the game at Fratton Park and face fitness tests ahead of the return match with Manchester United on Tuesday.

Robin van Persie misses the weekend game and Wenger may have to make a call on the Dutchman’s groin problem on the day of the second leg. Gael Clichy (back) has been definitely ruled out for both games.

“For the weekend we have lost Eduardo certainly,” the manager told Arsenal TV Online on Thursday afternoon. “He has done his groin again unfortunately. Rio Ferdinand fell on him when he had that accident. His knee went on his groin and that detached some fibres. Silvestre has a groin aswell.

“We have not scanned them yet [so we don’t know about Tuesday] but they both miss Saturday for sure.

“Robin van Persie is out for the weekend and we will only know very, very late if he could be available for Tuesday or not. We may not know till Tuesday. Gael Clichy is definitely out.”

These are busy times for Wenger and Arsenal. A win on Saturday would secure a top-four finish and could also improve their chances of snatching third spot. The manager knows he must rotate – the questions are how and how much?

“We want to keep our run going and win the game,” he said. “I want to give some players a breather who need one but aswell it is very important for us to get closer to Chelsea and I don’t want to give any hope to Villa either.”

okay ...

-- The Aluminium Hoover
Eboue - Toure - Jo Djo - [can't we rest Gibbs? Should we? Tom Cruise?]
Wilshere - Denilson - Ramsey - Arshavin
Vela - Bendy

(anyone to play instead of Wilshere? Walcott has to play on Tues)

Dr. Gaius Baltar - April 30, 2009 02:53 PM (GMT)
Portsmouth seem to have the wrong attitude completely against the big teams. I think you'll hammer 'em.

I would not play Almunia or Toure in that game...jesus if we lost either of those. It would be the end of the world...We are like China dolls...we break so easily.

Bartley

Wilshere
Diaby....punishment

Eddy-Don't call it a comebac - April 30, 2009 10:24 PM (GMT)
id like to see jay emmanuel thomas given a game, maybe ayling too for their youth cup antics.

However, wenger has said we want 3rd so itll be a good team out theree

Cesc will play, almunia too, toure as well

fakeyank - May 1, 2009 07:38 AM (GMT)
We will absolutely hammer them, thus creating a false belief that we will carry on that performance on tuesday against man utd.

WTF did eduardo do on Wednesday night to have a groin injury? I understand that he is back from a very bad injury but all the injuries he has suffered since his comeback have been to his groin, thigh etc... nothing related to his original injury. I hope that we have NOT unraveled the new Diaby- who will play two matches and be injured for 5.

 Please let it not be true!! He is my favorite player!

Ach - May 1, 2009 10:29 AM (GMT)
Rio Ferdinand landed on him.

Twas the same collision which broke Rios rib so must have been a heavy impact

Ach - May 1, 2009 11:43 AM (GMT)
Rio hasnt broken his rib after all :(

KaiserKolo - May 1, 2009 04:12 PM (GMT)
Merida to start apparently.

Jens' Face - May 1, 2009 04:21 PM (GMT)

STFU Andy!

Arsenal Action - a blog. They think Ramsey will start as well as Denilson...

We'd win if the 3 points was for most light-weight midfield...

Eddy-Don't call it a comebac - May 1, 2009 05:26 PM (GMT)
add wilshere to it too

hymppi - May 2, 2009 08:38 AM (GMT)
i think we are fielding the strongest team possible. gunning for the third spot as the thought of our kids winning the cl is an absurd one.

:rose:

on the other hand, another arshavin show... YEAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!

Marc Overmars - May 2, 2009 08:59 AM (GMT)
It would be nice to keep the run going today, but I think it is under threat.

Have a feeling we'll lose today with thoughts firmly on Tuesday's game.

Don't care much, tbh.

BBC have this ...

1416: A bit of breaking team news - Arsenal, who are at Portsmouth today, have made eight changes from the side that lost to United in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Don't care much, tbh.

there's a unique pleasure to watching games once we're out of the title race -- so much less angst and able just to sit back and enjoy whatever we do well

interested to see whether we give youth players a go -- or really how many , since KK assures that Merida will feature.

Marc Overmars - May 2, 2009 01:20 PM (GMT)
Carling Cup kids + Arshavin it is.

Sagna Claus - May 2, 2009 01:23 PM (GMT)
Arsenal make eight changes with Bacary Sagna, Alexandre Song and Theo Walcott the only players to retain their places from last Wednesday's first leg. Andrey Arshavin is one of the players to come in.

Jens' Face - May 2, 2009 01:25 PM (GMT)
Theo? Song?

Theo maybe -- maybe -- but Song? That means Song won't be playing on Tues? That's craziness.

Gubby-Allen - May 2, 2009 01:29 PM (GMT)
Arsenal
21 Fabianski
03 Sagna
17 Song Billong
20 Djourou
27 Eboue
14 Walcott
15 Denilson
16 Ramsey
23 Arshavin
26 Bendtner
12 Vela
Substitutes
24 Mannone, 28 Bischoff, 35 Coquelin, 38 Emmanuel-Thomas, 43 Merida, 47 Randall, 56 Frimpong

Gubby-Allen - May 2, 2009 01:31 PM (GMT)
Look at the bench.

Right thing to do although I'd have played Almunia.

Don't think there'll be any more than one sub - Theo.

Wonder where Wilshere is?

Sagna Claus - May 2, 2009 01:33 PM (GMT)
sagna to LB and eboue RB then?
