We'll score in this

Game on

Ach - April 30, 2009 08:58 AM (GMT)
Rio is a doubt for this game.

A big boost for us as Evans isnt that good

Dr. Gaius Baltar - April 30, 2009 09:29 AM (GMT)
Evans isnt as good as Rio. Still better than the two you'll have playing.

But yeh, it's all to play for. If we dont score against your rubbish defence, i'll not be happy. But if you're as rubbish in the second leg, i reckon we could shut you out again.

Dr. Gaius Baltar - April 30, 2009 11:47 AM (GMT)
Rio Confirmed out. Broken rib.

Marc Overmars - April 30, 2009 11:51 AM (GMT)
Quite simply,

Attack, attack attack attack attack!

Dr. Gaius Baltar - April 30, 2009 01:21 PM (GMT)
I think we're looking at a 7-6 (7-7 agg) scoreline.

KaiserKolo - April 30, 2009 02:15 PM (GMT)
So...

Almunia

Eboue Bendtner Song Clichy

Walcott Cesc Nasri RVP

Eduardo Ade

Dr. Gaius Baltar - April 30, 2009 02:46 PM (GMT)
Apparently Eduardo is out.

Ach - April 30, 2009 04:24 PM (GMT)
Hes a doubt but not ruled out yet

KaiserKolo - April 30, 2009 06:26 PM (GMT)
Wenger's Secret Weapon Revealed…

As our biggest match for decades beckons, Sir Wenger is certain to start with NICKLAS BENDTNER (below) in midfield on Tuesday next week as we look to overturn the 1-0 deficit from this midweek inflicted by man united at Old Trafford. Bendtner 5' 2" has apparently learned Russian, and has a special celebration lined up which involved shushing the crowd with one finger at his lips, as a dig at all the fans who have slated him in recent weeks...

Rio Ferdinand is set to be fit for Manchester United's Champions League semi-final second leg against Arsenal as he has not cracked a rib.

The 31-year-old, who misses Saturday's Premier League trip to Middlesbrough, hobbled off during Wednesday's first leg and had a scan on Thursday.

But United boss Sir Alex Ferguson tests revealed he had not cracked a rib and could play at the Emirates on Tuesday.

Ferdinand has already made 40 appearances for United this season.

Now that's what im talkin about.

Eddy-Don't call it a comebac - May 1, 2009 05:33 PM (GMT)
ade needs to give him a massive nudge in his rib to ensure he has to go off

Ach - May 1, 2009 07:47 PM (GMT)
An accidental massive nudge of course

Gubby-Allen - May 2, 2009 01:38 PM (GMT)
Just out of curiosity - when was the last time we beat Man Utd by more than one goal?

KaiserKolo - May 2, 2009 01:40 PM (GMT)
0-2 at Old Trafford in the FA Cup?

When Fergie threw a boot at Beckham afterwards?

McNamara That Ghost... - May 2, 2009 01:41 PM (GMT)
February 2003, in the FA Cup probably. We've never had to win by two goals before though (well in so far as avoiding extra time), so not sure it really makes a difference.

Jens' Face - May 2, 2009 01:53 PM (GMT)
based on the lineup against Boro, I ...

... have no idea who we'll play on Tues

same back 5, I think
Eboue Denilson Cesc Nasri
Bendtner Ade

???

and Theo to come off the bench at 65 minutes (I mean, assuming we aren't already up 4 goals)

Darth Vela - May 2, 2009 01:55 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I can see Eboue starting...the direct running could make real problems for Man U, Eboue could be an Arsenal hero (what? It MIGHT happen).

Jens' Face - May 2, 2009 06:01 PM (GMT)
Rooney played the whole match today. He's also one yellow away from missing the next match. It's not possible that s'ralex would start him on the bench, is it?

other than striker questions, it looks like we'll see the same manc lineup.

fuckin mancs <_<

Marc Overmars - May 2, 2009 06:03 PM (GMT)
I'd love it if Rooney missed the final, love it.

Eddy-Don't call it a comebac - May 2, 2009 06:41 PM (GMT)
after today, i would prefer a hungry for goals Bendtner than a lazy ade

wenger might start them together or bring one on for aerial bombardment late on if we need a goal

Eboue was also very good and is an option at LB if gibbs isnt fit

Djourou also impressed and may be a better bet with his pace. We will hold a high line and silvestre could get caught out by that.

Song must start in CM but I fear Diaby will start with Cesc and Nasri LM. Diaby wasnt there today at all, wasnt injured and Song played the whole thing.

I feel the key could be if RVP is fit. Hes done it for us in the big games before (Chelsea away, Villarreal home, Roma home, he was excellent) and he can get goals. He also brings out the best in Ade IMO

Robin van Persie will make a shock comeback against Manchester United in the Champions League semi-final on Tuesday as Arsenal bid to improve on their flawed performance at Old Trafford and overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg.

The Holland striker has been struggling with a groin injury for a fortnight but his rehabilitation is geared towards making him available for Tuesday, with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hoping to field a full-strength attack of Van Persie, Emmanuel Adebayor, Theo Walcott and Samir Nasri, though Croatia striker Eduardo will be ruled out with a groin injury he sustained in the first leg.

Van Persie has struggled with a succession of injuries in the past two seasons and was ultra-cautious when he damaged his groin in the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea, but Wenger has held him back for the decisive match of the tie and the defining game of Arsenal's season.

The Gunners manager hopes Van Persie will add the cutting edge his young team lacked in the first leg.

Wenger said: 'United were sharper than us in the final third in the first half-hour of the first leg, but we had a lot of possession in the final part of the game, we just weren't dangerous enough.

'I look to the whole team in these big situations. Like when we were a penalty down in Rome and still made it with a young team. You can see they will not be affected by pressure.

'They can hold their nerve. We had a tough time in the away leg, but United will experience a tough time at the Emirates.

'We are 90 minutes from where we want to be, in the final, and I and the whole squad believe we can do it.'

Oh don't buy into all that rubbish. He's a quality player that's capable of doing something ridiculous awesome. In a game where we pretty much need to achieve our best result ever under Wenger, we need match-winners. He works well with Ade too - I bet our record is better with Ade and RVP on the pitch, as opposed to just Ade or just vP.

Aside from cup finals and games to win the league, I don't think I've ever wanted a win as much as Tuesday night.

Eddy-Don't call it a comebac - May 3, 2009 01:35 PM (GMT)
RVP is one of our most talented players

I remember from December to February, he pushed himself while others dropped like flies, and carried the side and kept us within reach of Villa. In January he either created or scored every goal we scored. Says it all

The goal he scored against Liverpool at home, I reckon only Arshavin has threatened to do something similar. RVP is hungry to win things with this side, something Ade seems disinterested in atm.

Against Villarreal at home, he fitted into our system and was focal to it along with Cesc in terms of creativity. THis bollocks about him affecting our style is bullshit. He can make something out of nothing, sees a pass, links up well with others

ARSENE WENGER is sweating on the fitness of striker Robin van Persie as he contemplates a change of tactics for tomorrow’s must-win Champions League clash with Manchester United.

Van Persie has not played since suffering a groin injury in the 2-1 FA Cup semi-final defeat by Chelsea and has missed Arsenal’s last four games.

But Wenger wants to revert to an attacking 4-4-2 formation and will give the silky Dutchman every chance to prove his fitness.

The Gunners boss said: “We played 4-4-2 at Portsmouth on Saturday and I think we look more threatening that way.

“Maybe we will play with two strikers against Manchester United — but the way we line up depends on who is available.

“When Cesc Fabregas plays behind the striker, as he did at Old Trafford last week, the striker looks to be a little isolated.

“But when we play with Theo Walcott on the right, he is more of a winger than a midfielder so the rest of the side need to be more defensive. So it is important we get the balance of our team right.”

Wenger insisted a team effort is needed and added: “We will not win on Tuesday with 11 players, we will win with 14. The substitutes will play a crucial role.

“No matter who starts, what is important is that everybody is focused so they can help the team to qualify for the final.

“There is no doubt that United were sharper and more threatening in the first leg at Old Trafford last week.

“But what we need now is the added sharpness you often get from the advantage of being the home side.”

Centre-half Mikael Silvestre faces a late fitness test on a groin injury but Wenger is confident the ex-United man will be available as Arsenal bid to overturn a 1-0 deficit.

So Eboue RM and RVP up top if fit

If RVP not fit, Theo RW and Nasri off the front?

JackTheLad19 - May 4, 2009 10:37 AM (GMT)
Ferdinand's in training now apparently, looks like he'll definitely play. Dammit.
