Looking at the teams that will be in the qualifiers, its going to be difficult for us to get through.
Id back us to beat anyone we get but wont be easy
Marc Overmars - June 7, 2009 12:16 PM (GMT)
I just read that from next season, the CL final will now be held on a Saturday.
JackTheLad19 - June 7, 2009 12:19 PM (GMT)
Yep it's true I believe.
Should just stick to midweek, too much meddling.
Marc Overmars - June 7, 2009 12:23 PM (GMT)
Suppose it's better for the fans that go so they don't need to take extra time off work etc.
I guess they'll have to move the FA Cup final a week back to accomodate it as well. I think next season will finish earlier than this year to give everyone time to prepare for the World Cup.
Ach - June 7, 2009 12:25 PM (GMT)
Will it be Saturday afternoon or evening?
CL games in afternoons just doesnt seem right
Marc Overmars - June 7, 2009 12:25 PM (GMT)
Got to be evening hasn't it.
Eddy-Don't call it a comebac - June 7, 2009 01:55 PM (GMT)
i liked it midweek, made the final different to all other league and cup competitions
KaiserKolo - June 7, 2009 02:47 PM (GMT)
Platini is a c*** for doing that and the whole anti-podium stance. Podiums are much better than the stairs. And for basically criticising Arsenal at every opportunity.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/ju...-congestion-rowHe sucks most cock for this tbh. How are the games supposed to be played if games can't be scheduled on European nights? Every occurence is to be looked at case-by-case. What a waste of resources.
The Emirates Gallastico - June 7, 2009 03:32 PM (GMT)
We should replace Platini with CK, tbh.

The curry quality on match days would improve considerably tbh.
McNamara That Ghost... - June 17, 2009 03:24 PM (GMT)
Drogba suspended for six matches. Two of them deferred however still means he misses more than half of (as it stands) Chelsea's group games.
:haha:
Can't believe Ballack wasn't punished though.
Gooner 83 - June 17, 2009 03:24 PM (GMT)
Drogba give 6 game ban but 2 are suspended for two years
Bosingwer gets 4 with 1 suspended for two years.
Gooner 83 - June 17, 2009 03:30 PM (GMT)
drogba gets off lighty and ballack and chelsea who said uefa hate english clubs.
Ach - June 17, 2009 06:34 PM (GMT)
4 games is light?
Just out of interest, what punishment did the main man in all this get?
Thats right, the ref

Death threats and a crazy German and and mentally unhinged Ivorian verbally abusing him and waving their arms in his face. He had to be smuggled out of the country and put into hiding. Worst of all, he was the cause of Jamie Fuckin' Redknapp saying we shouldn't have referees from small countries. The Spuddy c***.
Punishment enough tbh.
KaiserKolo - June 18, 2009 09:28 AM (GMT)
Arsenal could face the following: Stuttgart, Fiorentina, Atletico Madrid, Celtic, Anderlecht, Sparta Prague, Dinamo Bucharest, FC Twente, Dinamo Moscow, Sivasspor.
Marc Overmars - June 18, 2009 09:30 AM (GMT)
Fancy us to beat them all, but that early in the season when we're not very sharp makes it a potential banana skin. We saw last year away to Twente we were under the cosh for a lot of the game before Gallas got the scrappy breakthrough, could be a similar type of game.

This year we have Arshavin though. Gives me so much optimism seeing his name on the team sheet . He will contribute so much to our CL run.

UEFA have reduced the European bans handed to Chelsea striker Didier Drogba and defender Jose Bosingwa for their conduct in the wake of Chelsea's Champions League semi-final elimination by Barcelona in May.
European football's governing body has reduced both players' suspension by one game on appeal.
Ivory Coast frontman Drogba will now miss the first three of Chelsea's Champions League games this season and Bosingwa the first two. |

Atletico de Madrid fans have voted Arsenal the opponents they most want to see their team face in the Champions League qualifiers in a defiant gesture to the supposedly faltering Premier League outfit.
The Spanish side finished fourth in la Primera Division last term and must enter into a two-legged play-off in August to reach the group stage of the Champions League.
El Mundo Deportivo held a poll among 15,000 Atletico supporters and one team name came out clearly on top as the most attractive option for the encounter next month.
Arsenal have had senior players criticise their lack of investment and the sale of their main striker Emmanuel Adebayor will have raised a few eyebrows, even if he was not popular with all sections at the club.
Other rivals such as Olympique Lyonnais, Shakhtar Donetsk, Sporting Lisbon, Panathinaikos, Fiorentina or Stuttgart could also provide Abel Resino's team with stiff opposition.
Whether the vote was a compliment for Arsenal because the fans want a classic meeting or whether Atletico's followers believe the Gunners can be beaten comfortably is unclear.
But whatever is true, Arsene Wenger's side will not relish the prospect of taking on an ever-improving Colchoneros outfit with such high stakes.

 Oh dear.
Bring it on.

We're facing them in the Emirates Cup as well.
More important tbh
McNamara That Ghost... - July 29, 2009 09:01 PM (GMT)

It was expected - getting Dinamo Moscow in the 2nd qualifying round was an awful draw.
McNamara That Ghost... - July 29, 2009 11:42 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't have expected it at Celtic Park, away for sure.

I sort of did - it is still a bad result, but Dinamo are 15 matches into their domestic season, and in a real emerging League. Celtic are still in pre-season training.
One thing it does illustrate is, there are some prepared teams coming into the 3rd round and some of them do pose a real threat to qualification to the Group stages.
McNamara That Ghost... - August 5, 2009 08:25 AM (GMT)
F.C Twente got knocked out in the 95th minute on away goals by Sporting's goalkeeper.
:haha:

Celtic clear off the line.
This is on Channel 990 for Sky, or on the BBC site, if anybody gives a stuff.

0-2 Celtic, Samaras. Celtic through to the play-offs.
