Title: Mesut Oezil

| QUOTE |
According to a report in German newspaper Bild, English powerhouse Arsenal are closely monitoring the situation of Werder Bremen's highly-rated youngster Mesut Oezil.
The 20-year-old midfielder joined his current team from Schalke in January 2008 for a fee €4.5 million and has quickly developed into an important first-team member at the Hanseaten.
Oezil has made 28 league appearances this campaign for Werder, scoring three goals, and capped his outstanding season with the winning goal in the DFB Pokal final against Bayer Leverkusen.
However, Arsenal face stiff competition in the race to secure Oezil's signature. Valencia, Juventus and the inevitable Manchester City are also keeping tabs on the left-footed playmaker.
The former Schalke starlet's current Werder deal is due to expire in 2011, but the North German outfit are keen to hold on to Oezil and have offered him an improved deal expiring in 2014.

Looked like a bit of a livewire during the UEFA games I watched but we aren't going to go for another attacking midfielder...hopefully.

A DM is needed. Not a playmaker.

Absolutely tore Bayern apart very early on this season.
Seems like a more team orientated version of Ben Arfa.
He's not a playmaker anyway, he's a winger.

that's 3 down, 8 to go

Might as well pass judgement on a player if there's a thread about him.

Brwned, does he cut in a lot? And was he Diego's understudy at any point?

Yep, he cuts in loads. Not sure whether that's part of Bremen's tactics or just a natural tendency of his though.
Not that I know of. He only went to Bremen last January, and a lot of his games, whether off the bench or starting, have been alongside Diego.

tigerthesmurf85 - June 29, 2009 08:56 PM (GMT)
Every time I've seen him play he's been awesome. Buy him and release Rosicky.

:good:
1. I hadn't heard of him or seen him play.
2. If we get rid of Rosicky then we should get another DM.

ASTON VILLA will turn their attention to Werder Bremen star Mesut Ozil after refusing to up their bid for Fabian Delph.
Boss Martin O'Neill saw his £6million offer for Leeds midfielder Delph, 19, rejected and believes his inexperience does not justify a higher fee.
But Ozil, 20, has already won a cap for Germany and O'Neill thinks he is better prepared for the rigours of Premier League football.
Villa look set to confirm their interest with a £12m bid - and Ozil is ready to turn down Bremen's offer of a new contract to seal a move.

1 cap for Germany, that hardly constitutes a propper German International...moreover Germany aren't blessed with talent these days.
As for the U21's, didn't see it but it's a low level competition but all intents and purposes so it doesn't prove that much.
If Villa sign him we'll see how he does, personally not really bothered though.
KaiserKolo - July 12, 2009 10:26 AM (GMT)
Great player tbh. 16 assists and 3 goals for Werder last year in his first season as a regular starter. I'd take him, but we don't need another playmaker/wideman.

Because the situation of all of German football affects how you judge his talent alone?
It is a low-level competition but then judge the fact he laid on lots of goals, is technically pretty good etc. He scored the winner in the German cup final and also played in the UEFA cup final.
Yeah, we don't need him, but he'd be a good signing for any Prem side. I'd be surprised if Man Utd don't go in for him. He's better than someone like Obertan.

Might not be, Obertan could be amazing and he just hasn't realised his potential yet.
Ozil's obviously very talented though, that's been pretty clear for a while now. And we've already been in for him.

I can't think of a more exciting, potential filled youngster in Europe than Oezil, who play's outside of the Premier League and La Liga.
He will be an excellent player and is well worth keeping an eye on to see how he develops.

Balotelli is like Drogba to Oezil's Kaka.
No comparison.
As for Pastore. Who? And how can he be rated as highly as Oezil when we haven't seen him play?

I like Oezil, I watched quite a bit of him in the U21's tournament and I was very impressed.
We don't need him as we have plenty of attacking midfielders/pseudo wingers but this kid will develop into a very good player IMHO.

ARSENAL are planning for life without skipper Cesc Fabregas by lining up a £15m swoop for Germany playmaker Mesut Ozil.
But the Gunners have been told they will have to wait until the summer to snare the Werder Bremen midfielder.
Fab underlined his commitment to the Gunners’ cause by making it eight goals for the season in the 4-1 demolition of AZ Alkmaar on Wednesday.
But the Spanish ace continues to be heavily linked with a return to boyhood club Barcelona at the end of the season.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wants highly- rated Ozil to replace Fabregas’ creative spark should the 22-year-old go.
Ozil’s contract expires at the end of next season and Werder want him to sign an extension.
But talks have been put on hold until next year, casting doubt over the his Bundesliga future.
It is understood the 21-year-old, who is also being tracked by Manchester United and Liverpool, is open to a move to England and will assess his options.
Wenger was eager to steal a march on his top-flight rivals by moving for the German star in January.
He fears that a successful World Cup for Ozil, who is rated the third best player in Germany behind Bayern Munich pair Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, will see his price tag rocket.
