| Manager Dave Jones says Cardiff have had no offers for midfielder Joe Ledley as his transfer dealings stay on hold. Wales star Ledley, 22, has a year left on his Bluebirds deal, meaning Cardiff will either want to sell him now or secure the player on a new contract. "We don't want Joe to go, we want him to sign an extension," said Jones. "We haven't started silly week of the transfer window. Everyone's seeing what is around and what they can get before letting people go, we're no different." Ledley's agent, David Baldwin, has previously told BBC Sport Wales that the 29-cap international will see out his current deal rather than re-sign with the Bluebirds. Cardiff rejected a reported £6m bid for Ledley last summer from Stoke and there was more interest in the January transfer window. "There've been no enquiries for Joe at the moment," Jones told BBC Sport Wales. "We get a lot of whispers, but we want him to stay and hope no-one else comes in for him. "Joe's a good professional, he'll just get his head down and work hard." Jones said that the player is a strong contender for the vacant captaincy position at Cardiff. "It's difficult at the moment, we've brought in Huds [Mark Hudson] who has been captain, we've brought in Anthony [Gerrard] who's been captain for Walsall, and Quinny [Paul Quinn] has been captain. "Joe's been captain here, there's Steve [McPhail], so there's plenty of people vying for it. If I can get the three I want it will strengthen us even more and that's what we're all looking for "The chairman [Peter Ridsdale] will have his pick and I'll have mine, but at the end of the day it'll be my decision." Jones says he has been discussing his transfer targets with Ridsdale, but that the summer manoeuvrings are still in their early days. "I keep pestering and chipping away at the chairman," said the Bluebirds boss. "I know what players I want, I've told him. "If I can get the three I want it will strengthen us even more and that's what we're all looking for. "There's no sign of anyone else going, we've had one or two enquiries but it's early days yet. "We have to be careful. We can't let everyone go, we have to stay strong." |
