Title: Neven Subotic

QUOTE
The talents of Borussia Dortmund's towering defender Neven Subotic have been well documented by a trident of esteemed Premier League clubs including north London giants Arsenal, title contenders Chelsea, and nouveau riche clique Manchester City.

With the ambiguous nature of John Terry's future at the Blues, the Gunners' need for an aerially-dominant ball-winner, and City's all-round bolstering policy, Subotic appears to have a host of destinations to pick from, if reports from a plethora of media sources are to be believed.

The 20-year-old, who stands strong at 6'4', impressed during his rookie season with Bundesliga outfit Dortmund and, while the club have quelled recent speculation linking their blossoming defender with a transfer away from Germany, to Everton, the player himself remains open to a move.

Following a long-term contract signing, Subotic is reported to have told Bild, “I am just 25-years of age in five years time. If I would have the desire to move on that would still be a good time.
“I made progress at Dortmund last season and it would be too early to move abroad,” however, he added, “I still have a lot to learn. At this point in time it would take an extraordinary bid to see me leaving.

“This would be great for both, Borussia Dortmund and me. They would have big money and I would know that this new club is really interested in me as a player.”

Subotic is expected to fetch a fee in the region of £10-12 million.

Arsenal's summer spending, contrary to alternative reports indicating that Thomas Vermaelen would be the club's sole acquisition, looks set to continue with the recruitment of 20-year-old aerial ball-winner Neven Subotic, according to Press Magazin, who intimate that the Gunners are readying a bid in the region of €12 million.

With the sale of Kolo Toure to Manchester City already complete, together with the anticipated departures of Emmanuel Eboue (Fiorentina) and Philippe Senderos (Everton), Arsenal could be light at the back, and so a move for Subotic could be on Arsene Wenger's agenda.

Subotic began to witness regular first-team football at the age of 19 with Borussia Dortmund, and recently committed himself to a new five-year deal at Die Borussen. However, a strong bid from north London - or indeed from Chelsea or Manchester City, who are both reportedly interested in the youngster - could force the Germans' hand.

Arsenal have collected over €45m from the sales of Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor, and Wenger is believed to also be in conversation with former captain Patrick Vieira about the prospect of making a return to N5.

and the fact that it's based purely on what I've read in this thread does not dampen my desire in the slightest

Neven Subotic's agent has rebutted reports that suggest his client is set for a transfer to Arsenal.

Earlier whispers had suggested Arsenal were looking to sign the towering youngster as a replacement for Kolo Toure. Everton have also been credited with an interest in the defender.

However, the player's agent, Stephen Kelly, has insisted he has not spoken to anyone from Arsenal.

"There is nothing in the reports linking Neven with Arsenal," Kelly told Sky Sports.

"I don't know where this has all come from.

"He only recently signed a new five-year deal at Dortmund and it would take big money for any move to happen.

"I have had no contact with Arsenal. I have spoken to Dortmund and they have told me that they have had no contact with Arsenal whatsoever."

Arsenal are hoping to complete the double signing of Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh and Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic.

Subotic's deal is less certain. Arsenal have been quoted a figure in the region of £18m for the 20-year-old but are reluctant to pay more than £12m for the 6ft 4in Serbia international.

Further talks are set to take place today but Newcastle's Steven Taylor remains a cheaper alternative at around £6m after the club sent a scout to assess the England Under-21 international in last week's Championship match against Sheffield Wednesday.

Although Arsenal have funds to reinvest in the squad following the departures of Kolo Toure and Adebayor to Manchester City, the club refuse to be held to ransom over any deals.

Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic has been continually linked with a move to Premier League side Manchester City, but the Serbian international has now made it clear that he won't leave BVB in the near future.

"Of course it is very flattering to hear that a big team such as Manchester City are interested in securing my services. They are so rich that they could probably buy whoever they want," Subotic told Bild.

"However, I recently extended my contract at Borussia Dortmund until 2014 and I'm not planning to leave the club already. I feel very well in Dortmund, both on and off the pitch.

"Additionally, I have the ambition to achieve something with the club. Head coach Juergen Klopp brought me here from Mainz and I owe it to him to stay at Borussia for now."

Dortmund technical director Michael Zorc added that the Bundesliga side have yet to receive an official offer from Manchester City and that a transfer appears to be very unlikely.

NEVEN SUBOTIC admits he is tempted by a big-money switch to Manchester City.

But the Borussia Dortmund defender insists he wants to stay in Germany for now.

The Serbian star has been linked with Arsenal in the past and is currently in London for an international friendly with South Korea.

He said: "Of course it is flattering to have my name linked with a top club in England.

"Manchester City are so rich that they can practically buy any player they want.

"I have only just extended my contract until 2014 and I am also very happy privately in Dortmund.

"I still want to achieve something with Dortmund and I owe this also to the manager Jurgen Klopp, who brought me here from Mainz."

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is pondering a swoop for Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic amid fears that William Gallas will leave on a free transfer in the summer.

The Daily Mail indicates that the Gunners boss fears that Gallas, 32, will reject the offer of a new 12-month contract at the Emirates in favour of a move abroad.

Gallas is believed to want a longer deal than just one year.

Subotic, valued at around £15 million, claimed that he was happy in Germany earlier this week, as reports circulated that he was also piquing the interest of Manchester City, Manchester United, Inter and Juventus.

Earlier this year, he signed a new deal at Dortmund that lasts until 2014.
