Title: The Notts county thread
Description: The Clandestine magpies!
Flava Flav - August 10, 2009 08:11 AM (GMT)
Ok so as many of you are probably aware the oldest professional football team in the world have been treading water in the 4th tier of English football for quite a time now. Last season they nearly went bust and attendances, at the 20,000 all seater Meadow Lane, had been dire. That was until an little known investment firm from the middle east came aslong and proposed a takeover.
Unsurprisingly, having seen Man City's rise, the fans voted overwhelmingly in favour of a takeover once the proof of funds had been acquired. Research into these owners has been conducted but is met at every turn with smokescreens and dead ends. The clever money is on the Qatar royal family being behind it but this, of course, can't be proven. "They" have said that the tradition and potential of the club is what has drawn them as well as that within 25 miles of Meadow lane there are 800,000 people who can be attracted to the club.
So, from being relegation and undoudtedly bankruptcy candidates the magpies are now, the bookies favourites for promotion into league one, where Leeds, Norwich, Charlton and Southampton all wait. SGE and Tord Grip have been added to the exec staff to raise the profile of the club, improve the training and youth facilities and acquire players that before, would have been out of reach , Ian McParland remains in charge and the old directors have taken up exec posts as well.
After adding players like Lee Hughes, Luke Rodgers and Ben Davies to the squad it would seem the only way is up for county. After beating city rivals Nottm Forest 2-1 in pre-season and then destroying Bradford 5-0 on saturday in front of nearly 10,000 fans it has started very well indeed.
But can it last? If it starts to falter will McParland go and SGE take over? Are the owners in it for the long haul, they say they have a ten year plan to get to the premiership but is that fact? Will SGE and Tord stay the course?
I will keep this updated (I know most won't care) and see how it goes from here on, only another 45 games to go...

Sven will take over eventually. Whether thats when things start to go bad or not is debatable but he will take charge. No doubt bout that

I did find it funny when Jeff Stelling referred to them as the Galacticos.

Oh i forgot to mention Myles Weston, a player who wanted out of county so let his contract expire and then moved to Brentford...just before the buy out came :pal:

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11750_5491041,00.htmlGreat signing for them, but Kasper can play at a higher level, surely? Bargain for £640,000. Makes you wonder when our record is £17m-ish for Arshavin (and you see how cheap that deal is in comparison to others this summer) and their's was smashed and stood since 1991.

yeah great signing, Pressman and Hoult are both over 35 so they needed some younger talent.

County remain top of the league after a 0-4 whupping of Macclesfield.
Obviously the Macc's fans wearing blonde wigs and Ulrika masks didnt have the desired effect on Sven and the Magpies then...
Only downside was Centre half John Thompson getting a broken nose

At least his manager was sympathetic, when asked if he was ok McParland replied "he deserves it to be honest, he is far too good looking to be a central defender"

Seems the bendy church game was a slight mishap as county recover to paste in form daggers 3-0 to go top of league 2 with 11 points from 4 games.
In other news they are indeed in talks with Sol Campbell about a move as defensive player/coach

yeah I'm sure they will need his mental  strength if the ever get to play West Ham <_<
Has Svens arrival increased attendance/season ticket sales?

Sol Campbell signs a 5 year contract with Notts County.
He said he turned offers from several PL clubs but his decision to join Notts County was not motivated by money.
The man has no integrity at all.
Ach - August 25, 2009 02:43 PM (GMT)
Surely he'd have earned more at a PL club?
Syn - August 25, 2009 02:46 PM (GMT)
Notts County are loaded though innit.
And the more important thing is that PL clubs would probably only offer him a year deal - and he'd have to prove himself.
He has signed a 5 year deal. He's already 34. Even if he stops trying after a couple of years, he can just sit on the bench and earn his money.

What utter BS. How can he justify dropping 3 divisons if it's not for money?

SOL CAMPBELL may be in for a rough ride in League Two, according to his former boss Arsene Wenger.
The Arsenal manager says that Campbell has the potential to become a good coach or manager in the future.
But on the pitch he may find the drop down three divisions with Notts County harder than most people would think.
Wenger said: "In the short term, he will suffer a little bit because he is used to top top level football.
"When you move down it is always difficult to cope mentally."
But the Gunners manager feels sure that Campbell, 34, can make the most of his move.
"He has coaching potential," said Wenger.
"I believe every central defender has coaching potential.
"He always analyses the game of his opponent, he always analyses the game of the strikers.
"He has to think about that and so every good central defender has the potential to coach."

You do know he used to play for us and was an integral part of our two title winning teams under Wenger?
Also scored in the European Cup final.

Increased mate, they were averaging around 4k last season and its up to 8k average so far this season.
Like i say the main attraction for the investors was the huge population in the midlands and meadow lanes 20,000n capacity

CAMPBELL QUITS COUNTY AFTER ONE GAME - REPORTS
Posted 23/09/09 07:31EmailPrintSave
Sol Campbell has quit Notts County after just one game, according to reports.
The defender signed a five-year contract worth about £10 million three weeks ago with the League Club two but, according to The Daily Mail, 'packed his boots and said his goodbyes after training on Tuesday as his gamble to drop out of the Barclays Premier League backfired spectacularly.'
Campbell endured a torrid debut on Saturday in County's defeat to Morecambe on Saturday and The Sun says that he 'went to manager Ian McParland after the game and asked to be released from the deal.'
County are yet to comment on the reports.
