Title: England v Slovenia
Description: 1730 BST on Saturday, 5 September

QUOTE
Fabio Capello has recalled Spurs pair Peter Crouch and Aaron Lennon to his England squad for the Slovenia friendly and World Cup qualifier versus Croatia.

The duo were omitted from the squad that drew with Holland last month, but return after some fine club displays.

However, there is no place in the squad for Michael Owen, who has started just once for Manchester United this term.

His defensive team-mate Wes Brown is called up, though, while Liverpool's Steven Gerrard returns after injury.

Manchester United keeper Ben Foster also returns in place of Portsmouth's David James, who has bone bruising, while Rio Ferdinand (thigh) is also not yet fit enough to return.

Arsenal winger Theo Walcott is also unavailable again as he has not played yet this season because of a back injury, meaning Lennon, Shaun Wright-Phillips, James Milner, David Beckham and Ashley Young provide the wing options.

England play Slovenia at Wembley at 1730 BST on Saturday, 5 September ahead of the key qualifier against Croatia at the same venue at 2000 BST on Wednesday, 9 September.

Victory for Capello's men in the latter will confirm their presence at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

GARY CAHILL has been drafted into the England squad for Saturday's friendly with Slovenia at Wembley.

The Bolton defender, 23, will be used as cover for skipper John Terry and Wes Brown, who have minor knocks.

Cahill is not a new face to boss Fabio Capello after being called up for June's World Cup qualifier in Kazakhstan.

But news that both Brown and Terry have problems will be a worry given England tackle Croatia on September 9.

Rio Ferdinand is already missing with a thigh injury but the fact that neither Terry or Brown have been forced to withdraw is a positive sign.

Capello will not want to take any chances and Terry in particular would not be risked against Slovenia if it put his participation against Croatia in doubt.

A win against Slaven Bilic's men will be enough seal a World Cup finals berth.

Good chance to rack up more more goals.

McNamara That Ghost... - September 5, 2009 04:22 PM (GMT)
Hmm ITV might have to get a few freelance people for the World Cup, their coverage is going to be crap enough as it currently stands.
