Title: Arsenal v WBA
Description: Carling Cup Tuesday September 22nd

Ach - September 2, 2009 02:39 PM (GMT)
QUOTE
The race is on for Carling Cup places, according to Arsène Wenger.

Despite a policy of fielding squad players, Arsenal have a proud recent record in this competition. They have not won the trophy under the Frenchman but the youngsters have reached the Quarter-Finals, at least, in the past four seasons.

Wenger’s side kick-off their new campaign with a tough-looking tie against West Brom at Emirates Stadium on September 22. Home victories against Wigan and Sheffield United provided a showcase for the talents of Jack Wilshere, Carlos Vela and Jay Simpson 12 months ago.

The manager believes the quality of his squad will make Arsenal a strong candidate to lift the trophy this term. And, he argues, this year’s Carling Cup player is next year’s first-team squad member.

“Of course [the race is on]” he told Arsenal.com. “We have given out a few players on loan but we have a big squad and if you look at the number of players who did not play [against Celtic] then I believe we will have a competitive squad in the Carling Cup.

“Somebody in France told me that [against Celtic] our average age was 23.9 years old. If you look at the players who were on the pitch that night they all played in the Carling Cup – Bendtner, Song, Denilson, Fabregas even Clichy.

“They all started in the Carling Cup. That shows you how important it is to go through this stage.”

Scozeny

Gilbert...Bartley...Djourou...Traore

Coquelin...Merida

JET
Wilshere Sunu

Watt

We'll play 433 based on how the reserves have set up so far in matches.
JET will be back from blackpool in time (he wasn't played in their recent carling cup tie for this reason).

Marc Overmars - September 2, 2009 03:29 PM (GMT)
Gilbert still exists?

Gilbert still exists?

Apparently he played in the reserves as well.

Grebbo - September 2, 2009 04:48 PM (GMT)
JET's on loan isn't he?

I dont think Wilshere will start, there will be 5 games (PL and CL) in between Sep 12th - Sep 29. Wilshere is more likely to get involve with first team rotations/subs appearances.

Some of the teams predicted here are pretty funny.

No way will we play a team as weak ass as them

PGFC - September 3, 2009 06:42 AM (GMT)
JET doesn't come back from his loan to Blackpool until the 17th :good:

Elche - September 3, 2009 07:08 AM (GMT)
Fabianski

Traore
Djourou
Senderos
Hoyte

Wilshere
Coquelin
Ramsey
Merida

Bendtner
Vela

That team at home would piss on WBA.

I think Senderos will go out on loan somewhere though, so we may play Silvestre.

Jens' Face - September 3, 2009 12:24 PM (GMT)
^^^^^^^^ that's a good guess at the team

I would like to see Gibbs get some time though, since he'll stay behind Clichy. But then what to do with Traore? Can one of them play rb instead of Hoyte? I don't think so, so this is the best I can come up with:

Wookash (will he be fit?)
Coquelin Djourou S-or-S Gibbs
Merida Ramsey Traore
Wilshere Bendy Vela

anfield 1989 - September 4, 2009 04:30 PM (GMT)
Think that will be close to the team jens.

Pretty sure he'll now keep it as a 4-3-3 throughout the comps for all levels.

Means Traore or Gibbs may miss out. Pity as I think both would do well on left side. Then again Traore may still play, meaning Coquelin right back could be possibility. I'd like to see him there actually as we don't have any good back up there (even Hoyte is a center back by trade).

Gubby-Allen - September 6, 2009 06:03 PM (GMT)
We won't go silly with the youngsters - probably our best chance of a trophy. If Mannone is ahead of Wosiech surely he'll start then. Can see Rosicky playing too.
I reckon:

Mannone
Hoyte, Senderos, Silvestre, Gibbs
Wilshere, Merida, Ramsey, Rosicky,
Vela, Watt

Szecehny? Gilbert, Bartley, Traore, Coquelin, Randall, Barazite

Although wouldn't be surprised if Bendtner or Theo figured if they hadn't in the games before.

Got mine a couple of days ago in orange lower. Forget which block.

Milla - September 9, 2009 01:01 PM (GMT)
I got mine.. will be sitting on the lower tier.. :coffee:

Gubby-Allen - September 9, 2009 08:45 PM (GMT)
Just got my ticket for red members for a tenner. Sat right on the half-way line the bloke said.

Der_Kaiser - September 18, 2009 05:04 PM (GMT)
Got my tickets. Senderos is gonna start and wouldn't bet against him being captain.

Milla - September 18, 2009 06:02 PM (GMT)
I thought paper tickets are only for non members. Can I get in with my red member card only? :coffee:

Yeah.. I will be pissed if they ask for paper ticket.. :coffee:

Der_Kaiser - September 19, 2009 07:27 AM (GMT)
You get paper tickets if you bought them after 10th september.

mkkreuk - September 19, 2009 05:02 PM (GMT)
I bought tickets on the general sale on thursday. Money has been taken and I've received my email, but what If i don't get tickets on monday?

I have heard that you can phone and make arrangements to pick up the ticket on the day before/on the day. However, i'm assuming it'll be busy and concerned (because its an 0207 number) that i might not get through. Will my confirmation email along with relevant ID be okay to get me through on the night?

Der_Kaiser - September 19, 2009 05:32 PM (GMT)
Basically yeah. Might want to go slightly earlier in case.

Gubby-Allen - September 19, 2009 06:03 PM (GMT)
I ordered mine the morning they went on sale to red members (a Wed or Thu a couple of weeks ago) - got the missus to do it.

I got the email confirmation straight away but haven't had any tickets arrive, she seems to think all I need is the card & but can't remember if they told her that so I'll probably call to check & take the email with me too.

Gubby-Allen - September 19, 2009 06:12 PM (GMT)
I've a nasty feeling about this game (partly as I'm going) as the Albion are shit-hot at the moment. To avoid any "I told you so's & the team should've been this" comments, this is what I'd go with - and won't complain about selection if we go out with this side.

.................Szczesny
Gilbert...Senderos...Silvestre...Gibbs
Walcott...Ramsey...Merida...Wilshere
............Bendtner...Vela

Mannone, Hoyte, Coquelin, Traore, Randall, Barazite, Watt

If Walcott & Vela are injured, Traore & Barazite in & maybe some seniors onto the bench as we might be overdoing the inexperience.

Marc Overmars - September 19, 2009 06:15 PM (GMT)
Is it wrong that I don't give 2 hoots about this game?

From what I read, it said members would need to scan their card to get entry and that only those tickets bought on the general sale would be posted

I felt really subdued & uninterested for the C.L game in the week - was more looking forward to this. I struggle to get up for endless away games to Sparta Prague type sides year after year - when you know it'll pan out with us doing the bare minimum to get through to eventually go out in the QF to another English club.

It's not so much the CC I enjoy, I get more excited watching Ramsey, Vela, Wilshere, Gibbs than I do Eboue, Bendtner, Diaby, Song & Denilson.

But I really enjoy watching second string players - you watch some of these players sruggling a little in the big matches but it's difficult to call for them to be subbed or dropped when you haven't really got a clue how good the replacements are.

ticketmaster is a bit of a pain

you don't gave to select a quadrant but you do have to try a dozen or two times before you are given the option of getting seats. I managed to get four all next to each other.

No I meant I thought they were only £10 on arse.com. But checking I see it just takes you through to ticketmaster anyway where they are £20.

I thought tickets were only a tenner?
