Title: RVP speaks sense

ROBIN VAN PERSIE believes he should be scoring more for Arsenal.

The Dutch striker, who has 40 goals in 120 appearances for the Gunners since joining in 2004 from Feyenoord, failed to find the target in Saturday's 4-0 rout of Wigan.

He said: "The way we are doing it now is that everyone is sharing the goals.

"I'm quite happy with that but I should score more personally, especially against Wigan.

"But as long as we share the goals and everyone is passing it at the right moment, I am happy.

"If one striker scores 40 or 50 goals I would rely on him. But that happens once every 10 years. I'm quite happy to share the goals.

"But I don't feel that I'm at the top of my game as a main striker yet.

"I have to improve on many things but it is quite new and the main thing is that the boss really backs me on this one.

"He really thinks I can succeed as he has a lot of trust in me."

Striker in thinks he should score more shocker.

Seeing as strikers misfiring is a problem, its good he realises it

It would be a problem if we weren't the highest scoring team in the league with 17 goals in 5 games (a game less than most).

It is the defence and the lack of defensive players in midfield that have cost us thusfar this season.

Still it is nice to see Robin is looking at his own play and aiming to improve.

That's just league, Wiki says 180 appearances and 64 goals overall.

Fair play to RVP, he did shank a few great opportunities on Saturday especially and he'd have been looking at more than 1 goal by now in pre-season.

It reads better if you read it out loud in a Steve MacLaren style Dutch akshent, makes much more sense :good:

JackTheLad19 - September 21, 2009 08:29 PM (GMT)

Tbf a homemade knife probably could've stuck a couple of those chances away...

Been here 5 seasons.

Thats 190 league games.

He must have missed more than 70 leagues games in that time.

I'm glad he realises it. However he is expected to score goals when opportunities come his way. In the big games where we won't create chances on a whim, he needs to be clinical. Man U this year he had the opportunity to kill the game, an opportunity that if previous players had missed, they'd have been a 40 page thread going on about how shit they are and how they're not interested after signing a nice new lucrative contract. There's been so much hype around this player it's untrue, it really is time he stepped up to the plate on a consistent basis rather than fleeting cameo's. A reported 80k a week should yeild a bit more than we get from him. His goal return is extremely poor and apart from an excellent month last january, the only consistent thing about him has been his inconsistency.
