Title: England vs Brazil...in Qatar.

| QUOTE |
England will play Brazil in their final match of 2009, with Fabio Capello's side taking on the Confederation Cup winners in Qatar in November.
With both teams having qualified for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa the friendly will be played on the first of two dates set aside in the international calendar for World Cup playoffs.
The match will take place on Saturday 14 November in the Qatari capital Doha, in a rematch of the first England game at Wembley in 2007. The arrangement that saw Brazil face England in their opening game at the new Wembley stadium two years ago included the contractual obligation to play the reverse match within three years.
Under Fabio Capello, England also continue to use their friendly internationals as opportunities to play the very best teams in world football, with Brazil currently ranked number one in the world.
Having faced Holland in August, third in the latest FIFA rankings, England also faced Spain and Germany at the turn of last year, with those teams ranked number one and two in the world at the time.
Capello said: "To play a team like Brazil will be an important moment for us, we can understand more about ourselves and the level we must reach by playing the best teams.
"We have played Spain, Holland, Germany and France, some of the best teams in the world. In each of these games we have also played away from home which is important before South Africa.
"One of the benefits of securing qualification against Croatia is that we can start to plan for the World Cup, and this match is one part of our plans." |

Shades of the Argentina game in Nov '05. Remember that one? The one with the rush-released DVD? The "Perfect World Cup Warm-Up"? ....

Twas the game that Motty first showed signs of losing it.

Great game that was. Probably the last England friendly that was worth watching.

Harsh realities
£400k: Amount the FA will make from playing England's winter friendly in Qatar: a greed-motivated fixture-disrupting junket to "some unknown country" looking for a PR boost, says Fergie. "It's a nice day for them, a nice trip, with good revenue. For club coaches it's a nightmare."
£1m: Amount Man United made from their winter friendly trip to Saudi Arabia last year, including a visit to a royal palace to pose for PR shots with knives and swords (127 beheadings by sword in Saudi in 2007), plus a match played two days after a Premier League game and five days before the FA Cup fourth round. "It's not about money," said United. Fergie: "It's a chance to escape the harsh realities of winter!" |
What a c*** Fergie is.

He's been the best English striker in the league this season.

THE FA face a £900,000 bill after skimping on an economy jet for England stars.
Frank Lampard could be out for six weeks with a thigh injury after seven hours cramped on a plane on the way to Qatar for tomorrow's Brazil friendly.
Chelsea are furious and will claim his £151,000-a-week wages in compensation from the FA.
Lamps and his Three Lions team-mates were forced to spend the long-haul flight to Doha on a charter plane designed for short-haul only.
The superstar players are used to having flat beds for long journeys and were shocked to find seats that barely reclined.
Several players complained of cramp and muscle pain after the flight.
The squad had their first training session yesterday morning. After an initial warm up, Lamps, 31, burst into a sprint and strained his left thigh.
Last season, the midfielder missed six weeks with a similar injury.
He could now be ruled out of crucial league games against Arsenal, Manchester City, Wolves and Everton plus Champions League clashes with Porto and Apoel Nicosia.
The FA decision to book a cheap charter looks like it will backfire on them as they are only receiving a match fee of £400,000 for the Brazil friendly.

Oh please, quite clearly he didnt properly warm up then.
6 weeks? Pure speculation - I fully expect a comeback of biblical proportions if that is indeed the case.

SSN reporting three weeks with a torn thigh muscle; would seem pretty likely he'll miss the game with us if that is indeed the injury.

When are the international associations going to realise that international footbal is becoming more and more meaningless - and friendlies even more so.

A point about ITV's coverage:
When the line up is confirmed and the players themselves state their name, their position and make stupid faces, is genuinely the most cringe-worthy moment on telly.
ITV eh.
A bit shit :coffee:
Ach - November 13, 2009 05:55 PM (GMT)
They dont do that for CL do they?
Cant remember the last time i watched a match on ITV
Bunk Moreland - November 13, 2009 05:56 PM (GMT)
No they don't.
They milk their coverage of internationals very badly.
Ach - November 13, 2009 05:57 PM (GMT)
Havent seen an England game since the summer i think.
Not sure if i watched them either.
Probably did
Bunk Moreland - November 13, 2009 05:58 PM (GMT)
If the World Cup is on ITV, then f'ck it.
I'd rather watch the matches on a stream.
Ach - November 13, 2009 06:01 PM (GMT)
It'll be on both channels.
Il watch them all. Well as many as i can.
The ones where BBC and ITV are showing at the same time, theres only one winner.
