INJURED Everton footballer Phil Jagielka has been confronted by knife-wielding burglars in his Cheshire mansion.

The 27-year-old defender was watching his team on television when three men broke into the house in Knutsford.

Jagielka, who has two children, was threatened with a knife and forced to hand over jewellery and the keys to his Range Rover.

A spokeswoman for Cheshire Police said: "Fortunately nobody was hurt during the incident and the car was found abandoned a short distance away."

The robbery took place at around 8pm on Wednesday while Everton played Hull in the Carling Cup.

Jagielka is the latest footballer to have his home burgled.

Last month Blackburn Rovers midfielder Vince Grella was also held at knifepoint when his Cheshire home was burgled.

Other players targeted in the past include Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and Tottenham striker Robbie Keane.

Pity they weren't stupid enough to break into Duncan Ferguson's place like those last muppets that did.

The Everton game wasn't on the telly...

Surely footballers aren't as cheap as us stream-chasers, unless they get some sort of special feed?
