Diving is a sensitive subject, especially at Arsenal, yet Robin van Persie has served only to reignite the issue by admitting that he “exaggerates” a fall if he feels that a challenge on him merits a penalty. Arsčne Wenger will wince at the disclosure from the Holland striker that he likes to “show the referee” a spot-kick is deserved. The Arsenal manager has had enough of “simulation” after the furore over the alleged dive of Eduardo da Silva in the second leg of the Champions League play-off against Celtic last month. Uefa, the sport’s European governing body, handed Eduardo a two-match ban, but it was rescinded on appeal. While Van Persie does not condone theatrics, he believes that it is legitimate to alert the referee to a foul. Asked if he had exaggerated a tumble, Van Persie said: “Yes, I did. Sometimes when you are in the middle of an action and you get a little push and you know there’s nothing more to take. Then you are in the right to show in a way to the ref that you are pushed. That’s not really diving. It’s just showing . . . ‘Come on, he just pushed me, so I can’t score now.’ “You sometimes have a little movement with your arms or with your body, but I don’t think that’s really cheating. It’s never my intention to dive, anyway. It is a bit tricky I have to say because I am against divers. It is just not honest. But it is difficult because, sometimes, like I had a little moment against Manchester United [in the 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford last month]. “For example, after the whole Eduardo thing, when I had the ball on the right side and I cut it back. [Patrice] Evra gave me a little push — a really little one — but it sort of outbalanced me. I just fell down and the whole stadium started to boo me. I was, like, ‘Come on, can’t you see he pushed me?’ “Some people don’t see these little pushes and they can give you a whole different picture to what the situation really is. It doesn’t play on my mind, never, because I always have the intention not to dive. But sometimes you are out of balance, it looks a bit funny.” Few would accuse Van Persie of overdramatising his clash with Emmanuel Adebayor, a former Arsenal team-mate, in the tempestuous 4-2 defeat by Manchester City two weeks ago. He was cut on the face by Adebayor’s studs, for which the Togo striker received a three-match suspension, and has yet to forgive him. Van Persie labelled Adebayor as “mindless and malicious” in a statement on the Arsenal website, even though Adebayor claimed to have apologised on the pitch. “No, he didn’t,” Van Persie said. Asked if he still expected an apology, the Arsenal player said: “Not any more. I don’t want to waste any more time on Mr Adebayor. I think he showed how he is in the last couple of weeks. “If you ask me, he was punished for what he did and I think that’s the main thing. What he did was not right.” Van Persie’s penchant for plain speaking did not extend to examining closely Wenger’s lack of substantial activity in the summer transfer market. However, the inference was clear: the Frenchman — with support from Ivan Gazidis, the Arsenal chief executive — could have spent more on new players to strengthen his squad. “I have an opinion on that, but I can’t really share that with everyone,” Van Persie said. “Because I do trust the boss and I do trust Ivan Gazidis to make the right choices. I just can’t really say what’s in the bottom of my heart. Of course, I want to play with the best players around, but I’m not going to say what the boss or even Gazidis should do because it’s not my money.”

And tbh I don't see the level of ridicule and hateful speech towards mancs, Chav or pool players from their fans as I see from gooners directed at their players.

Yes, but Arsenal's players haven't won trophies and so the Arsenal fans are allowed to rip into their own players - if they're not too busy sucking off the rivals. |

Would be nice if he spent far less time giving interviews to anyone with a pencil and concentrated on practising getting the odd free kick above the wall and on target.

What a dick. How to ensure refs already suspicious of us after the Eddie saga definitely don't give us any important decisions. Nice work Robin.
