Title: Vela to Xerex?

Arsenal striker Carlos Vela is a shock January transfer window target of Spanish basement boys Xerez.

Vela has failed to command a place in the Gunners starting XI since joining in 2005 and the Mexico forward is eager for first team football to stake a claim in his country's World Cup challenge.

Vela had hoped for a regular berth in the Arsene Wenger's side following the departure of Emmanuel Adebayor but has only managed one appearance for Arsenal this term - as a substitute in the 2-0 Carling Cup win over West Brom.

The 20-year-old, who has already had spells on loan in Spain at Salamanca and Osasuna, now looks likely to opt for another stint in La Liga with Xerez desperately needing a goalscorer to lift them off the foot of the table.

"We are looking to bring in a forward who can stop the lack of goals in the team," a Xerez spokesperson said.

"We are looking at a number of options in the European and Spanish markets and it is possible that Carlos will arrive in the winter market."

I think he could be quite useful this season, would've played a bit more I think when Theo, Nasri and Arshavin were all injured but was injured himself...impact sub now though

On loan, not a problem.

Permanent?

They can fuck off tbh.

Yes if all our players are fit, he wont get a look in in terms of starting but could come off the bench

JackTheLad19 - September 27, 2009 01:55 PM (GMT)
No way in hell they're having him permanently.

I just think if he went out on loan we'd be losing a pretty useful option in injury crises and a goalscorer. He did get on the bench yesterday as well.

CC might be over for us by Jan time so he could choose to get some regular action I suppose.

The Wengerbabies - September 27, 2009 01:59 PM (GMT)
I'm hoping to see him play more regularly this season. I thought his chance could come with Rosicky, Nasri and Walcott injured but he was injured himself so I dont seen how he can be complaining of lack of appearences.

Anyway if he did go on loan I would get slightly worried that he may seek a permanent move.

Xerox can fuck of and get another copy.

Gubby-Allen - September 27, 2009 04:36 PM (GMT)
It's difficult to justify RVP, Eduardo, Vela and Rosicky all in one squad when only two of them would ever start together - and that may be pushing it with one more on the bench - one will always miss out.

Add to that they're all left footed, yet last year Nasri played on the left, this season Arshavin.

There's Bendtner to play up front too & people are still demanding a striker on top of all that lot.

Sooner or later somebody will want out through not playing. I wouldn't sell Vela, changed the game completely when he came on, but he seems the most likely of all those to be sold.

Jack Bauer - September 27, 2009 04:37 PM (GMT)
I'd much rather sell RVP than Vela tbh.

Gunnerrrrr - September 27, 2009 05:04 PM (GMT)
would not sell even for £30mil no joke. Its plain to see that vela is a special talent.

Xerex can fcuk off back to 300

The guy is such an exciting player, I really thunk he should get a chance now...he's what 20 years old that's a good age...he's shown he can finish and he certainly can dribble well as well.

Playing Spanish football again isn't going to get him use to Premiership football....we'd be mad to send him out on loan when all we have is 3 strikers....RVP, Bendtner and Eduardo.

Send them RVP instead.

For being "such a great talent" he hasn't done an awful lot (despite 3 or 4 good performances in the CC) at Arsenal...in the league he was usually very quiet

Not saying he won't make it, but he's somewhat overrated around here

Marc Overmars - September 27, 2009 11:16 PM (GMT)
I'd like to see more of him in the first team but with the amount of competition we've got up front he's going to be limited to cameo's.

The article tries to make it sound worse than it is. Failed to command a place in the team since 2005? Think his work permit issues have something to do with that.

Where have Arshavin and Theo gone?

Anyway, I think Vela can be a very good impact sub ala Theo, pace and trickery coming on against tired legs will get him a few goals from the bench this year imo. Needless to say, we'd be stupid to send him out on loan and we'd be even more stupid to sell him outruight.

I agree with MO about the tone of the article as well, as soon as I saw the 'failed to command a starting place since 2005' I laughed, guy doesn't really have a clue either.

got to agree with that!

the guy is electric and would like to see more of him.....possibly what we are trying to get Nic to do in the 4 3 3 formation...however that is not a call for Nic's head...

Gotta be honest I don't consider Arshavin or Theo as strikers. Arshavin is an attacking midfielder for me and Theo a winger.

I guess technically they're 'forwards', I think Theo can play up top so for me that's 5 players and one position makes us pretty well covered, 4 with Vela and we're sorted, even 3 and we're okay really.

Yeah I'm not convinced with Theo's ability to score goals as you know ;) so for me playing him up front although feasible is a measure we should only use if we're really stuck.

Hasn't he only managed one appearance because he's been injured?
