Title: Carlos Puyol has an offer from Arsenal
Description: To join in Jan 10

Elche - October 7, 2009 06:36 AM (GMT)
Now normally when you see a headline like that, you smile and read on.

But this is different. This is the front page of Mundo Deportivo and Sport , the 2 Barca papers.

They say hes coming to the end of his career and was likely to leave anyway. Arsenal have offered 5.5. million euros for him and offered him 70,000 euros a week for a 2 year contract.

Like I said normally I would smile at a story like that, but because it's in those two papers, you have to think they've heard something.

When it comes to players they're buying they write trash, but when it comes to Barca players leaving they don't often play around.

Maxzimus - October 7, 2009 07:21 AM (GMT)
Not very keen to be honest, always thought he was a bit of a headless chicken at the back, he's been at Barca for years and their defence was awful throughout most of his regular days.

Ach - October 7, 2009 07:37 AM (GMT)
Hes pretty shit tbh.

But hes good in Pro and i need a decent defender so yeah bring him in

The Emirates Gallastico - October 7, 2009 07:45 AM (GMT)
He'll get anal raped in the PL.

Syn - October 7, 2009 07:54 AM (GMT)
You don't captain the team to a treble if you're crap.

Ach - October 7, 2009 07:56 AM (GMT)
When you have little to do with it, then yes you are.

We should buy Laporta from them.

He was their best player last season

Introducing Gary Neville, Manchester United captain in season 2007/08 when they won the treble.
He didn't play any games, and one trophy was the Community Shield but
Says it all, I'm afraid™

RVP Left Foot - October 7, 2009 08:09 AM (GMT)
The thing is in the past when they have written storys about cesc etc we all say those papers are bullshit, so why should we believe what they write this time.

Don't want him anyway he's pants

Grebbo - October 7, 2009 08:37 AM (GMT)
He's crap.

Defenders in Spain, and especially Barca defenders, barely have to break into a sweat.

When they try to tap up a plar they say anything. But when it comes to the future of their triple winning Captain, and double CL winner they don't piss around out of respect.

Respect for Barca players

Utter BS for non Barca players

This story has now reached the TV this morning.

Der_Kaiser - October 7, 2009 10:56 AM (GMT)
:haha:

Chrygrinsky's signing has probably caused some journo's to add 2+2 and get 5. Good player, a real winner, but he is Barca through and through. Won't ever leave.

Arshavinslittlelegs - October 7, 2009 12:16 PM (GMT)
He's crap and butt ugly. No thanks.

Whatever - October 7, 2009 12:21 PM (GMT)
He's obviously not crap
He was always overhyped, but he used to be(and imho still is) a good defender.

He's a Barca legend and should stay there. As he doesn't provide a huge upgrade on Gallas or Vermaelen and we have some backup in CB this makes like no sense at all

Arshavinslittlelegs - October 7, 2009 12:24 PM (GMT)
Perhaps its a ploy to keep Cesc here....why let Cesc go to Barca when Barca can come to Cesc! :ladynana:

granted. But Djimi Traore has a CL winner medal too. Cant see him playing second (third?) fiddle to Gallas and vermaelen though. But i can see him displaccing Lescott or indeed Richards at Money City

Bunk Moreland - October 7, 2009 03:57 PM (GMT)
He clearly isn't crap and those who say he is either have an agenda or don't watch him play.

Puyol would be an excellent addition to the squad but I'm not sure if he's going to leave Barca, he's the captain and a local lad.

hymppi - October 7, 2009 04:16 PM (GMT)
not sure he'd be happy warming bench in chilly londan.

tech12 - October 7, 2009 04:25 PM (GMT)
There is nothing to this story.

I hope to God there's not.

Elche - October 7, 2009 05:12 PM (GMT)
 People saying Puyol is crap .

He was and to some point is a monster for Barca, saving them many times. His leadership and mentality are equal to that of Tony Adams.

He is older now so is running at 80% of his abilities, that leaves you a good player.

Trying to use Neville or Traore to compare his achievements, is quite frankly a joke....in refering he like them is a bad player.

He could do a great job here, would be passionate for the club, and play his heart out...He would adapt to the Prem but maybe it would take him longer because of his age and the type of league.

I'd rather see Carlos Puyol as back up than all the back up defenders we have.

But its just hyperthetical

Jens' Face - October 7, 2009 07:30 PM (GMT)
interesting.

weird, tbh.

I dont have an agenda and ive seen him play more than anyone on here bar Elche arguably.

Hes shit

Que?!! :pal:

Anyway he's too slow for this league.

tech12 - October 7, 2009 07:52 PM (GMT)
I think Puyol still has a lot of heart, but the prem isn't a league you come to when you're 300 years old.

RVP Left Foot - October 7, 2009 07:56 PM (GMT)
It's like Ramos of Madrid, don't understand what the big deal is about him, to me he is average.

The 2 top teams in Spain have poor centrebacks

Ach - October 7, 2009 07:58 PM (GMT)
Ramos is fucking quality.

The Wengerbabies - October 7, 2009 08:01 PM (GMT)
Puyol :haha:

We'd better not :threaten:

RVP Left Foot - October 7, 2009 08:01 PM (GMT)
Nah

give me TV5 any day of the week

fari - October 7, 2009 08:35 PM (GMT)
i like the guy, he plays with his heart on his sleeve but he would never leave barca unless pushed out. he would rather sit on the bench and play copa del rey matches and CL games than move to another club i feel.

Maxzimus - October 7, 2009 08:48 PM (GMT)
He does play his heart out yes, but the guy can't defend for toffee, when he plays all you see is a mop of floppy hair running around allover the place...no positional discipline at all.

Wish we had more players like this on our team. You get the feeling iniesta, xavi, messi, puyol, would never leave unless asked to.

Nah, had one good season for Real so far IMO. Great player but not world class. Puyol is better at the moment.

Ramos is a liability......loves to give the ref an excuse to show what cards he keeps in his back pocket and usually it's the red that gets shown

Puyol? only if he promises to score more goals than  Vermaelen

McNamara That Ghost... - October 8, 2009 09:23 AM (GMT)
Puyol does offer cover at fullback too. Not saying he is great there but it wouldn't surprise me if that is what appeals to Wenger also.

Wengerizlizard - October 8, 2009 10:54 AM (GMT)
he cant fucking catch up to peeps in the slow league, like said earlier he would be anal raped here

also his pretty hair gets in the way of his vision, if he were to join he would have to get a verminator style haircut

Marc Overmars - October 8, 2009 11:24 AM (GMT)
He's 10x better than Senderos, Djourou and Silvestre, sign him up.

Only problem is that a big part of what makes him good for Barca is his passion and standing at club, he wouldn't have that here.

dosent take much to captain a team with the stars of messi, henry, eto, xavi, iniesta, toure! they dont need inspiring from a captain

tigerthesmurf85 - October 8, 2009 01:26 PM (GMT)
I've never really liked him that much but in my opinion Puyol > Silvestre so go for it.

So we're resigning Toure as a Highland cow?
