Title: Robinho to Barca?

ROBINHO is on collision course with Mark Hughes after expressing a desire to play for Barcelona.

SunSport yesterday revealed the Manchester City star is set to request a January move away from Eastlands if he does not regain a regular first team place.

Barca boss Pep Guardiola has already revealed his admiration for Robinho.

And the ex-Real Madrid forward has responded by admitting he would love join the European champions.

In a move which is certain to anger City boss Hughes, Robinho said: "Of course I would like to play for Barca.

"Who would not? We could have so much fun.

"It would be a pleasure to play alongside Lionel Messi, my compatriot Dani Alves, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with them all.

"They're a great team. I've played against them and know their quality. But right now I can only do it on the PlayStation.

"It is a pleasure to watch Barca play. They look like the best Brazilian team with the way that they use the ball.

"Pep Guardiola's team is truly spectacular.

"It is an honour that a coach like him speaks well of me and values me as much as I have read he does. It fills my heart with pride.

"It is a question of sitting down and talking when there is a serious and concrete proposal and, as I have said before, I have not personally received that.

"I have a contract with City and being the professional that I am, I am dedicated to them."

I reckon he could go, especially with him being available for the CL.

Darth Vela - October 15, 2009 11:15 PM (GMT)
Yeah, doesn't look good but given how well they've played this season without him along with Petrov coming into favour again, will he be that big a miss if he goes in January?

Marc Overmars - October 15, 2009 11:21 PM (GMT)
Probably not now with their wealth of new options.

I've never really felt he was committed to their cause anyway, he wanted a quick getaway from Madrid and City was the only choice. The tool even thought he signed for Chelsea.

tech12 - October 16, 2009 12:47 AM (GMT)
I wonder if he's going to get any stick at Real Madrid next year.

Assuming he does go to Barca

the odd thing is he is leaving citeh (a team who probably will not qualify for the cl) to get first team football at europe's most successful club at the moment. citeh have more money (and attacking options) than sense or success.

Syn - October 16, 2009 10:45 AM (GMT)
Was good for about 10 games when he joined.

Has been shit ever since.

Bunk Moreland - October 16, 2009 10:47 AM (GMT)
He wouldn't even get in the Barca team...

Marc Overmars - October 16, 2009 10:53 AM (GMT)
Probably not, but the prospect of Messi and Robinho either side of Zlatan is a bit mental.

Then there's Thierry of course.

If they had any sense they'd use the Robinho stash on Ribery.

Ribery-----Zlatan-----Messi.

That's pretty awesome.

Marc Overmars - October 16, 2009 10:56 AM (GMT)
Ribery is City's next big target.

Bunk Moreland - October 16, 2009 10:57 AM (GMT)
As if he'll go there. It's a straight fight between Barca, Real and poss Man Utd.

Jack Will Score - October 16, 2009 11:00 AM (GMT)
would utd spend 50m+ ?

Bunk Moreland - October 16, 2009 11:01 AM (GMT)
Depending on the player, then yeah.

:goodpost:

he is the very definition of overrated.

sure, all the talent in the world, but that doesn't mean jack if the player doesn't care or try

Rors - October 17, 2009 09:13 AM (GMT)
Barcelona play away games as well though don't they.....? :coffee:

Marc Overmars - October 17, 2009 09:17 AM (GMT)
Yeah, but in 25 degrees!

Rors - October 17, 2009 09:22 AM (GMT)
'Loves the sun on his back' etc... He'll be no great loss - he was just signed purely as a look-what-we-can-do by the new owners anyway - but if they think they can let him go because they'll easily snaffle Ribery...

Nayan - October 18, 2009 11:50 AM (GMT)
robinho would be a good replacemen for henry as he gets old. WOuld suit barca's system.
But is is a prick - good luck trying to get him to apply himself.

BARCELONA have denied reports they have made a new approach for Manchester City star Robinho.

The Spanish Treble winners have long been linked with a move for the brilliant Brazilian, who cost City a club record £32.5million when he joined them from Real Madrid last year.

But Eastlands boss Mark Hughes maintains Robinho is not for sale, claiming he is "not in the process of taking outstanding players out of the team."

And now Barcelona's sporting director Txiki Begiristain has cooled talk the Nou Camp side could launch a raid for the 25-year-old in January.

Begiristain said: "Robinho is an interesting player who we asked about in the summer.

"But City would not talk about a transfer and since then we have not made any move.''

If Guardiola could actually get him actively contributing in their system and not just disappearing when they dont have the ball then he could be phenomenal off the left...I think he might be a bridge too far though even with all that talent.

Bearer of Bad News - October 23, 2009 09:29 AM (GMT)
bad news for the premiership.

best attacker in the league.

a player good enough to decide next summers world cup.

Der_Kaiser - October 23, 2009 12:40 PM (GMT)
No way is he the best attacker in the EPL. There are far better players in Drogba, Torres, Rooney, Arshavin and Adebayor etc

He won't decide the WC tbh. Gilberto and Melo will.

Ach - October 23, 2009 01:53 PM (GMT)
Rooney

Bearer of Bad News - October 23, 2009 01:55 PM (GMT)
fair play with drogba.

the rest

pretending to be some football guru by overrating defensive midfielders

Who was key in 98? Petit and Deschamps. Gilberto and Kleberson in 02, etc. Robinho is not a guarenteed starter, the other two are and they've won the Copa and the Confed (the two recent comps Brazil played in) with Gilberto and one other. Many players could come in instead of Robinho. You severely underrate Arshavin but overrate Robinho.

1 goal in 13 international games torres? the guys out of his depth outside of anfield or the smaller league games.

arshavin needs to win something worthwhile before we get carried away.

i'd say zidane in 98 and rivaldo/ronaldo/ronaldinho in 02 tbh.

not a guarenteed starter

and is this the same copa america where robinho won the golden boot and was named player of the tournament?

underrating/overrating - no. its a fact that brazils best player(s) can decide a world cup, always. 8 in 10 brazilians would say robinho is the current best player.

Ach - October 23, 2009 11:45 PM (GMT)
Scolari said Gilberto was his most important player in 02 World Cup.

Cos he allowed the players you mentioned to play their stuff as he protected them.

As for Robinho, i like him. Hes a good player. Is he better than the people you mentioned? Not imo

Bearer of Bad News - October 24, 2009 07:40 AM (GMT)
yeah but players like gilberto are a dime a dozen, key duties or not. you dont replace the type of players listed above.

robinho - I wont mark a player down just cos theyre dicking about at citeh. he went there just for the money and thats the consequence of such vulgar spending.

torres hasnt even won a club competition in his career yet and was so-so in the euros anyway. robinho has won it all bar the world cup, dominating the copa america along the way. we need to be careful about where the overrated/underrated labels go.

Marc Overmars - October 24, 2009 09:00 AM (GMT)
Nicky Butt has won it all too.

Been relegated twice since he left his cushy surroundings though.

:coffee:

McNamara That Ghost... - October 24, 2009 09:12 AM (GMT)
Robinho hasn't won it all anyway. Certainly not in Europe anyway, he has won La Liga and the Spanish Cup but not the Champions League and as you already indicate - he hasn't won the World Cup. My knowledge of Santos is not so great so he might well have won the Libertadores but I couldn't say.

As for if he is overrated or not? Yeah I reckon he is. Undoubtedly talented but that's not all you need. You can't ignore what he is doing or not doing at Citeh just because it suits your argument. You acknowledge he went there for the money and those kind of choices are likely to determine how his career goes.

Copa Del Rey?

Isn't that just a bigger version of the Charity Shield? :D

McNamara That Ghost... - October 24, 2009 09:32 AM (GMT)
Aye! Thought by adding it, it would add credence to my argument though.

:ninja:

Having now checked, I see he hasn't won the Libertadores.

Der_Kaiser - October 24, 2009 10:58 AM (GMT)
Kaka is easily Brazil's best offensive player along with Luis Fabiano. Robinho is a good player but not the best they have and certainly not the most important. He is certainly expendable.

you said hes not a guarenteed starter, its no good pretending you watch brazil regularly now.

I hold my hand up about the "won it all" comment, got carried away.

but lets look at his citeh record, 14 goals in 30 starts in the league. its a myth that hes been anything other than a success over here, especially when you factor in the issue of him being the only top class player at citeh last season making it easier for opponents to concentrate on stopping him. plus it was his first season.

world class player.
