Walcott almost certainly out anything less then 3 points is unacceptable.

I think it will be a draw :coffee:

Marc Overmars - October 17, 2009 10:52 PM (GMT)
Tough test as with all CL away games.

3 points would be perfect though, we'll have the group all but wrapped up.

The Wengerbabies - October 17, 2009 11:14 PM (GMT)
Wonder what happened to the AZ crest :coffee:

Anyone know any AZ players?

Der_Kaiser - October 18, 2009 10:22 AM (GMT)
Former Spud turned good, El Hamadoui (sp?) and Moussa Dembele. They'll be tough, Koeman's sides are always a bitch for us to play.

Ach - October 18, 2009 10:25 AM (GMT)
Reckon this is our toughest game yet in the CL

No idea about injuries/if anyone is back etc so my team might be way off

Almunia

Sagna Gallas Vermaelen Gibbs

Cesc Song Rosicky

RVP Eduardo Arshavin

Gubby-Allen - October 18, 2009 01:03 PM (GMT)
I reckon it'll be 2 in 2 out from the Brum game.

Clichy will be back, Vela will be available - Walcott will be out & Rosicky won't travel due to so mnay games for him.

Bendtner should be back for WHU, Eduardo, Nasri maybe Liverpool, leaving only two.

Will probably be:
Almunia
Sagna, Gallas, Vermalaen, Clichy
Ramsey, Song, Fabregas,
Arshavin, Van Persie, Vela

Mannone, Senderos, Gibbs, Eboue, Diaby, Wilshere, Merida (or Watt)

Arshavinslittlelegs - October 18, 2009 04:25 PM (GMT)
Was it Koeman who was in charge of PSV when they knocked us out a few seasons ago??

Rosicky will play...Eddie is not back for this one I don't think.

..............Mannone

Sagna...Gallas...Verm...CLichy

...............Song
......Ramsey.....Fabregas

....Arshavin.......Vela
.................RVP

Ach - October 18, 2009 04:25 PM (GMT)
Koeman it was

He had England's too in 1994. Did Graham Taylor not like that.

I think his brother played against us too in Euro 88 & Italia 90.

Gubby-Allen - October 18, 2009 06:26 PM (GMT)
AZ lost 3-2 to a 90th minute goal yesterday, only 6th in the league so should be able to keep it 100% & put the CC side out for the return game in a fortnight.

No idea about Euro 88

Reigning Dutch champions AZ host Arsenal on Tuesday evening in the Champions League, and defender Kew Jaliens is confident his side can chalk up three points.

"You have to give it 100 per cent and see where it takes you. You always have to go into a game with a positive attitude," the versatile defender was quoted as saying by uefa.com.

"Everything is still possible in our section. We didn't feel we were the weaker side in the two previous games and we need to prove that in the remaining fixtures. In terms of points, it is still completely open.

"We are a footballing team of the Dutch school; we have good positional play, create chances, play an attacking kind of football. In a way we are the Dutch Arsenal. We play football well and like to get as close to the goal as possible to cash in on the opportunities we create.

"I am 31 now, and still being able to play in the Champions League is great. I've had a good career already, but all of this makes it even better."

LuvDeGooners - October 19, 2009 01:11 PM (GMT)
Walcott, Rosicky, Bendtner, Fabianski, Denilson, Eduardo and Djourou all out.

Clichy returns.

Rosicky out but will be OK for WestSpam, I doubt it is an injury but rather resting his fragile legs. Bendtner, Walcott and Eduardo are also out, suddenly we are short of strikers

We should start with,

-------------Almunia-----------

Sagna--Gallas--Vermaelan--Clichy

----Cesc----Song----Diaby----

-Eboue---Van Persie---Arshavin-

I prefer Merida or Wilshere (creativity) over Eboue but Wenger will opt for save option.

Bench;

Mannone
Senderos
Ramsey
Merida
Wilshere
Vela
Silvestre

JackTheLad19 - October 19, 2009 03:03 PM (GMT)
Yeah I'm fairly sure that'll be the team. Can't see Vela or Wilshere starting

Whatever - October 19, 2009 05:18 PM (GMT)
jesus..how come all of our striker are out?

I wouldn't start arshavin..the guy looked fucked on saturday and needs a break

I would play

-------------Almunia-----------

Sagna--Gallas--Vermaelan--Clichy

----Cesc----Song----Denilson----

-Eboue---Van Persie---Diaby/Vela-

Not a great lineup, but we are comfortably on top, so even a loss wouldn't be that bad.

If Vela, Ramsey and Wilshire are going to get any matches (aside from CC) this season, it should be those CL group matches...we are struck by injuries, so why not playing them? van Persie/Arshavin can't start every game

McNamara That Ghost... - October 19, 2009 05:39 PM (GMT)
Denilson is out for ages. And I want us to play as strong a team as possible - qualify for the CL knockout as quickly as possible then we can think about bringing in the young fringe players with one or two games to spare and nothing really riding on them.

anfield 1989 - October 19, 2009 05:39 PM (GMT)
^ Denilson is out remember.

Vela SHOULD get a game ffs. European set up is closest he's gonna get to game and is probably best suited to his international games.

I think Eboue will start on top 3 (which is tupid considering he's pretty bad in final third - coming from deep he is very good though).

So Vela or Arshavin (rest?) on left or Vela or Eboue.

What a surprise Eduardo, Rosicky and Theo are out. Can't actually believe Diaby isn't?!!

Forgot about Denilson.

Still, I don't understand why Vela, Ramsey and Wilshire don't get any playing time this season? They should be good enough (with a good team aroudn them) against lesser opponents. Is Wenger overprotecting them? I don't see how not playing them at all (aside of 10 min. cameos) is going to help them, especially when we have to decide what we do with players like vela in the near future

I especially don't unterstand why Diaby gets game after game(aside from Saturday, he 's not been playing particularly well) and all our promising young players are merely spectators

McNamara That Ghost... - October 19, 2009 06:03 PM (GMT)
We're still only 13 games in to the season with at least another 35 to go, I think it's far too early to make conclusions that Wenger is reticent to use them this season or that he is not helping them by not thrusting them in to situations they shouldn't really be expected to deal with at 18, 20 or 17.

Wenger is rightly playing what he thinks is the best team to wins the game at what is still the formative part of the season, plus it is worth stressing how young those players still are. They will get their chances, it just doesn't have to be so early on in the season - the three you mentioned will be involved in the FA Cup too but they probably shouldn't be involved in the CL unless it's a must whilst we're still not qualified despite some fans frustrations that they might be the better alternative to what we're seeing.

Apart from the new Arshavin spaffing thread, I guess so.
