| Arsene Wenger is keeping tabs on Ajax defender Gregory van der Wiel. Gunners boss Wenger has sent scouts to spy on the 21-year-old right back after van der Wiel’s impressive recent form saw him break into the Dutch national team. Van der Wiel first caught the eye when Arsenal were watching Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen before his £8.5million switch from Ajax to the Emirates in the summer. Wenger is now monitoring van der Wiel who is also being watched by Atletico Madrid and Barcelona with Ajax putting him in the £7m bracket. French international Bacary Sagna is established as Arsenal’s first-choice right-back but has endured a difficult start to the season and is currently battling with versatile Emmanuel Eboue for his place in the starting line-up. Wenger wants to have strength in all areas and believes the 6ft defender has a bright future. Wenger has already had success after signing Vermaelen and Robin van Persie from the Dutch league and he is developing a strong scouting network in Holland to keep tabs on players. |

| as you can see Van der Wiel is very the same hight and build as Vermaelen but then a bit faster and better skilled (Vermaelen does have some good passing). He is CB like Vermaelen with skill and speed, if Arsenal ever can sign him they are very lucky, I expect him to be first choice in the Dutch team for the next decade, he is already the best RB Ajax and Holland had for a couple of decades and it is not even his position. The clip is a bit deceiving btw since it focusses on some attacking actions |
