Title: Rio to be dropped?

RIO FERDINAND is facing the axe from Alex Ferguson as fears grow at Old Trafford that the defender is past his best.

Ferdinand, 30, was caught out for Fernando Torres' opener in Liverpool's 2-0 win over Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.

But this is not the first time the England centre-back has been found wanting this season.

Now the club management are concerned that Ferdinand has lost two yards of pace and that he might never recover his best form.

The change could come as soon as Saturday's home game to Blackburn as boss Ferguson is ready to give Jonny Evans an extended run in the side alongside Nemanja Vidic.

Serb Vidic has been below form recently and is suspended for tonight's Carling Cup tie at Barnsley after seeing red at Anfield.

Yet Fergie does not have as many concerns over him as he does Ferdinand.

Ferguson has even questioned whether Ferdinand is doing well enough to get into Fabio Capello's England squad for next summer's World Cup.

Fergie said: "He has to get good form.

"That's an important issue for the coach to pick the right team.

"In defence you've maybe got more options than other positions.

"He'll need to get his form right."

Ferdinand, who has been struggling with thigh, calf, groin and back problems, made high-profile boobs in last month's Manchester derby and England's recent games with Holland and Ukraine.

Yet he said: "I'm not interested in proving anyone wrong.

"I'm not interested in what people say about me.

"I'm just trying to get games under my belt."

No chance in hell.

Xaviola - October 28, 2009 01:57 PM (GMT)
Who do they have to replace him? Johnny Evans or Brown?

They might be better off letting him play himself into form.

Ach - October 28, 2009 06:01 PM (GMT)
We can only hope its true.

Brown and Evans are shit

Restaurant news: Rio Ferdinand, talking to BMI Baby's in-flight magazine about his favourite restaurant in Manchester: "Rosso. It serves unbelievable food. I love the steak if I'm having a big main ... The vibe is nice, too, with a casual dress code which I like. Plenty of footballers pop in for quality food after matches."

Only issues with Rio's review: Rosso doesn't open until mid-November, and when it does, he'll be co-owner. "I part-own the place, but have no hesitation recommending it."

I'm guessing the menu has been constructed and eaten by the owners once or twice. Just maybe. You know, possibly.

RIO FERDINAND is out for six weeks after finally admitting defeat with a back injury.

The Manchester United centre-back will miss Sunday's big Premier League clash at Chelsea and team-mate Wes Brown revealed Ferdinand has been playing through the problem for months.

Brown said: "He's been getting a lot of pain for a long time so he's sorting it out now."

Centre-back Ferdinand, 30, has been criticised for a number of poor displays.

Brown added: "When he comes back he'll be a lot stronger. If you're not fit and want to play it's very hard. Believe me."

Good that you're sticking up for him chap but still surely you can see the bias involved?

If it makes you feel better to think that the owners of a soon to be opening restaurant wont have eaten the food it will be serving, so be it.

But obviously anyone who isnt a prat would know otherwise.
