I am a massive Spurs supporter but I had the honour of touring the Emirates Stadium on Monday!
My reasons for this is that I took my girlfriends younger brother there who is a big arsenal fan- I promise you!
I thought I would share my experiences as I dont think you would see many spurs fans checking out our arch enemies ground!
Now I was actually quite impressed with the tour and the stadium, I was expecting the facilities and Stadium to be of a high standard being how much money was spent on it and the fact that its no more than a few years old, however the most interesting part was the tour itself...
The tour guide told us a few interesting things about the thinking going on with the design of the changing rooms and I wondered if the same approach will happen with our new ground or if it had happened at white hart lane or if this is just a typical Arsenal thing!
Basically Arsene Wenger helped design the changing rooms and alot of his knowledge had come from Japan, for example the Home changing rooms are in a horseshoe shape and everything is curved which is meant to give out positive signs, the Away changing rooms are rectangular shaped and everthing is square to give out negative signs.
From here I started to notice a pattern about the Home and Away changing facilities!
The Home changing room also has individual cushioned seats for the players, a room for warming up in and spa baths to relax after the game which none of the Away rooms have.
The tour guide also said that in the middle of the Home changing room they have a table where they can play music from their ipods. They have this same table in the middle of the Away room but the table has been deliberately heightened so when the players sit down at half time they cannot see each other from accross the way so during team talks they would have to stand up.
They have fitted very expensive flooring to avoid players going to the changing rooms and slipping over as they have their footy boots on. Of course in the Away end they have a nice shiny surface!
Just some interesting things about the players. When Jens Lehman arrived he demanded that the buzzer that goes off in the changing room should be moved as it was too close to him so thay have now moved it to the other side. The players are allocated a space by their posistion and it goes from goalkeeper all the way round to the strikers however when Henry was captain he demanded to be allocated in the middle so now every arsenal captain has their space in the middle.
They also have a museum which was then when it all got a bit too much for me! They showed previous movies of their games etc but they did keep banging on about the season when they pipped us to a champions league spot!
All in all not as bad a day out as I thought but after that day it makes me want to beat the asenal even more come the weekend!!

Really quite surprised about all this psy-ops shizzile. Do most clubs do this then?? Isn't it against some rules or regulations?? Pretty sneaky tbh.

What is crap about not providing visiting teams with a Rolls Royce service that we won't get at any other ground?

we should be able to beat them on the pitch. nothing else matters.

Makes sense, you want to give us every advantage we can get, some teams rely on brute force to even the field, we rely on our 'smarts', or 'stupids' in Diaby's case.

Why should we spend money we don't need to on the comforts of opposing teams?

i'm not pro-spending, i'm just new to the idea of us using the gimmicks.

I heard even our home dugout has underground heating, to keep our pups warm...whereas the oppositions doesn't.

:yikes:

we got the same speech from our guide when we went on a stadium tour.
To puut it into perspective Fergie commented on how small clubs (think he was talking about burnley at the time) have antiquated grounds and the away teams changing facilities arent good enough. In fact he said arsenals facilities for away teams are the best in the land
And we've all heard of crap teams leaving the heating off for the away changing rooms.
tech12 - October 28, 2009 07:37 PM (GMT)
Nothing wrong here. You play every advantage you get. The difference for 3 points is worth it.

Isn't that what they have at Old Trafford too?
otobeagoonahUSA - October 29, 2009 02:11 AM (GMT)
Every ground has the same. The best facilities for its players and lesser ones for the away team. Not bothered at all

Yep I got the same thing on the tour too. Any home advantage is a good one, and I see it as no more 'sneaky' than having the majority of spectators on your side. Very Wenger like to look beyond the obvious and consider finding advantages everywhere in the ground, especially since we compromised on proximity to the pitch which we had at Highbury.
Now I wonder if the new dug out seats have electric shocks for the visiting managers or perhaps some blutooth tampering devices for Mr Alladice and Mr Brown
Mr. Lahey - October 29, 2009 03:35 PM (GMT)
this happens in every proffessional arena nothing suprising really.
Jens' Face - October 29, 2009 04:54 PM (GMT)
I was a little disappointed to find out that we didn't have impossibly loud drum'n'bass or rabid squirrels in the opposition dressing room. Shouldn't we at least be putting LSD in their water?

What? You mean instead of putting it in Eboue's?
MadeInN1 - October 29, 2009 05:06 PM (GMT)
Hang on minute, ipods? cushions? is that why my season ticket cost so bleeding much. In fact why do the opposition even have a changing room? they should be ushered out to the street and shown where the burger van is if they want somefink to eat or drink at half time.
Jes...............next you'll be telling me that they have hot water for a bath next without having to put 50p in the meter.
