Title: Clichy Out
Description: Oh FFS!

From BBC
Clichy out for a month due to a suspected stress fracture of the back.
...and just when he looked like he was getting it back together again.
More disruption for our back 5.
I'm beginning to believe this thing about our players being trained too hard!

How often do players break their back...and we have two ffs!

Arsenal defender Gael Clichy out for a month with broken back
Arsenal left back Gael Clichy has suffered a suspected stress fracture in his lower back.
The France international, who was linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer, has been ruled out for up to a month.
His time on the sidelines will give promising 20-year-old Kieran Gibbs a chance to stake his claim for a place in the England team ahead of next summer's World Cup.
Gibbs impressed in Clichy's absence last season and has again looked up to the job in the Carling Cup this season.
The Under 21 international goes straight into the squad to face AZ Alkmaar in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Midfielder Tomas Rosicky is also in contention for the clash at the Emirates Stadium following a knee problem.
Striker Nicklas Bendtner (groin), goalkeeper Lukas Fabianski (thigh), Theo Walcott (knee), Denilson (back) remain out.
Team (from): Almunia, Gibbs, Vermaelen, Gallas, Sagna, Song, Fabregas, Diaby, Arshavin, van Persie, Eduardo, Mannone, Eboue, Ramsey, Senderos, Nasri, Rosicky, Silvestre.

A month, I thought it would be a little longer than that. Still, the international break helps again I suppose.

That is one hell of a injury list again
Gael Clichy
November 3
Gael Clichy has suffered a back injury and could be out for a few weeks. "We have lost Gael Clichy with a back injury which was not expected," confirmed Wenger ahead of the Alkmaar match. "It looks like he could be out for a while. We fear a stress fracture but we will know more of that tonight. But if that is the case, he will be out for a few weeks."
Lukasz Fabianski
November 2
Lukasz sustained an injury during the 2-1 Carling Cup victory over Liverpool. "We lost Lukasz Fabianski with a thigh injury," Arsène Wenger told Arsenal TV Online on October 29. "He will be out for three to four weeks. Of course it is big disappointment because he has just come back from injury."
Carlos Vela
November 2
Carlos Vela missed the Carling Cup clash with Liverpool due to a knee injury and did not feature in the North London derby either.
Jack Wilshere
November 2
Jack Wilshere has picked up an ankle injury and has missed the last two games. "Jack had a knock on his ankle and will be out unfortunately," said Wenger
Armand Traore
November 3
Armand Traore will be back in training on Thursday, November 5. “Armand Traore has been injured but he is back in normal training on Thursday so he will be the solution as left back cover,” said Wenger.
Tomas Rosicky
November 3
Tomas Rosicky has recovered from a knee injury and is back in the squad to face Alkmaar. "Rosicky will be in the squad tomorrow," said Wenger. "He will still be short to start but he will be involved."
Nicklas Bendtner
November 3
Nicklas limped off during the first half of the North London derby on Saturday. "Bendtner is quite seriously injured... we still do not know yet but we suspect four weeks," said Wenger ahead of the Alkmaar game.
Theo Walcott
November 2
Theo has been sidelined by a knee injury.
"We are without Walcott for longer than expected," said Wenger on October 19. "It is a medial knee ligament [injury], which is what I feared. He will be out for three to four weeks."
Denilson
November 2
Denilson is still out with a back injury. The Brazilian midfielder’s last appearance in an Arsenal shirt came at Eastlands back on September 12. He was substituted eight minutes after half-time and has not been seen since. The initial prognosis for the injury was a few weeks. Speaking ahead of the game with Olympiacos, Arsène Wenger revealed it would be actually much longer. “Denilson has a small fracture in his back,” said the manager. “He will be out for two months."
Johan Djourou
November 2
Johan suffered a knee injury while on international duty in August and faces a lenghty lay-off. “Johan is six to eight months,” Wenger said. “He had big surgery, and it is a big blow for him and the Club. He will have to be patient this season.”

So what's happening in Crock Central.
Oh Clichy is injured, no biggie he's been poor this season....but wait what's that you say?
Gibbs can cover as can Silvestre....what great news Gibbs is brilliant AT attacking can't defend for peanuts though......and Silvestre  he's the new Stepanovs!
goonergeorge - November 3, 2009 03:43 PM (GMT)
Isn't this about the third time Clichy has gotten a stress fracture in his back??
Elche - November 3, 2009 03:48 PM (GMT)
Injuries.
Wouldn't it be a good idea to access our training methods, our medical team, our warm up routines and our general all round health.
Because our players get injured almost 1 a game.
I think we bring them back too soon after previous injuries, our think our training may be too relaxed and so we are not quite warmed up, conditioned to play.
This is not normal. Other teams have injuries of course, but this many and so frequent...that they don't have.

Der_Kaiser - November 3, 2009 03:51 PM (GMT)
Gibbs to get his run in the side.
Denilson has the same injury as Clichy.
Coincidence, or are there any training or gym exercises that could cause this?
Syn - November 3, 2009 03:55 PM (GMT)
Shame about Clichy but Gibbs will do fine. Clichy's not much more than a half-decent defender with a bit of pace - although his performance on Saturday was excellent.
Elche - November 3, 2009 03:56 PM (GMT)
BTW
I'm very happy with Gibbs playing. Clichy although improved the last 2 games, is suspect to 1 x error per game.
Gibbs was born to play for his local team, is a good player, and games can only make him better.
Arsene will tell him, he can force Capello into thinking about him for the World Cup...obviously unlikely...but great incentive to do well.
RVP Left Foot - November 3, 2009 04:01 PM (GMT)

I think it's wishful thinking by Wenger to be honest, Gibbs is good going forward but he's not good defensively (understandable seeing as he's actually a winger).
He's been exposed numerous times defensively through no fault of his own, truth be told AW knows a lot about attacking football but we know he doesn't know a lot about the defensive side of the game.
His full backs are basically all about attacking not so much about defending, not sure that works at International level though.

Not injured anymore.
Hes resumed full training.
newguy - November 3, 2009 04:12 PM (GMT)
Gibbs is not ready and will cost us if the CC game is anything to go by.
Sky sports have said that we do however have a better winning record without Clichy in the side, which isnt something he'd like to hear, but we also have a better defensive record with him in the side
I'd like to see Traore get into the side once fit, hopefully for Wolves as his strength and pace will be needed.
On injuries, we have to look into our training regime. Clichy will be out for much longer than a month, so whoever steps in will get their chance to prove themselves, but it would have been best had he not got injured.
As Elche said there are just too many injuries for there not to be something we can look at to try and reduce them. More warming up, stretching ect.
Darth Vela - November 3, 2009 04:14 PM (GMT)
I think Gibbs does well for us at LB due to his attacking prowess tbh. He gets forward so well it forces the opposition back to defend more, he gets caught out of position but more than Clichy? I predict the only difference we'll notice will be slightly better crossing and less mistakes.
Clichy is a good player and his pace is simply frightening but his form over the last 18 months means this really isn't a terrible problem, it doesn't compromise our defensive solidity (or lack of it) on the flanks nor does it nullify any attacking threat.

but i think he's gonna be fine.

Here we go with backs again. What do we do in training or in warm-ups to backs.
Do we use the Chuckle Brothers as massuers?
Rio apart, other clubs maybe get one back injury to a player a season. Other players get back injuries & they might have to start a match from the bench or play it at 90%.
Our players get back injuries & it's a month out - and three or four at a time.
Denilson - 3 months out back injury, Walcott first two months out back injury, Clichy month out back innjury.
Still, Gibbs looks better anyway.
selassie - November 3, 2009 10:24 PM (GMT)
Losing Clichy isn't a massive blow, he's been our worst first team performer this season by quite some distance.
Gibbs is a good prospect, he's looked quite shakey this season but he's still learning his trade.
I like him though and think he does have geniune raw talent. He does need to improve defensively though and will have to step up if he wants to make the position his own.

I think that is an exaggeration, but in terms of loss to the side, I agree that there are many bigger losses than Clichy.
Unfortunately we have incurred a number of those losses as well.
So while on the face of it, in isolation, Clichy is not a great loss, but his loss takes on greater significance when added to the other losses.
