Title: Arsenal v Standard Liege Tuesday 24 November 19:45
Description: NO SPOILERS OF OTHER MATCHES
Ach - November 4, 2009 09:41 PM (GMT)
A point and we're through.
Liege still have a chance of going through.
Ach - November 5, 2009 12:11 AM (GMT)
We have the Chelsea match the following weekend.
Do we risk the big names?
Where's My Username Gone? - November 5, 2009 04:20 PM (GMT)
We shouldn't, but Wenger probably will, plus isn't there some rule about fielding your strongest team in the CL?
Ach - November 5, 2009 04:22 PM (GMT)
Why should there be?
We have registered 25 players i think for the CL and are allowed to play any of those 25
CK's Korma - November 5, 2009 04:24 PM (GMT)
Defo rest some of the big guns.
Namely, Cesc, RVP and Arshavin. Possibly Gallas and Vermaelen too, although they haven't missed a game together this season and it would be good to keep that going.
Whatever - November 5, 2009 04:27 PM (GMT)
time for the FA Cup team..cesc, Rvp, Arsha and Song should be rested

:goodpost: but not the cbs for the reason MO gives. In fact, I'd like to give the whole back 5 some competitive gametime together before the chavs.
This is who we should play vs. the Chavs
Almunia
Sagna Gallas Vermin Gibbs
Cesc Song Diaby
Rosicky RVP Arshavin
Therefore, this is who we play vs. SL
Almunia
Sagna Gallas Vermin Gibbs
Ramsey Diaby Eastmond
Eboue Eduardo Nasri
It's still pretty strong, even though almost all of our squad attackers are injured. Diaby and Eastmond can cover each other's backs, and Nasri can help Ramsey with the playmaking.
JackTheLad19 - November 5, 2009 07:16 PM (GMT)
Internationals coming up aren't they? Chances are we'll be fucked over no matter how much we plan in advance, we'll end up having to play the kids anyway.

I am goin with Vela upfront because I want player with pace leading the line. Right now there is no much different between Vela and Eduardo but the former certainly has more pace.

JackTheLad19 - November 21, 2009 10:17 PM (GMT)
Give Sagna and Gallas a rest if they need it, this is probably our best opportunity. Also if Gibbs isn't 100% ready then dont bother risking him.
Would also be tempted to have Denilson in midfield for fitness.

Can we have no spoilers of other matches?
Syn - November 22, 2009 10:47 PM (GMT)
Realistically, you cannot expect no spoilers.
If there are no spoilers, that, itself, is a spoiler because you know nothing significantly interesting went on in the Liverpool game (or elsewhere).
And obviously if something interesting does go on, there will be the odd person who'll contribute his (or her...lets not be sexist) +1 "OMFG LOSERPOOL!11! HAHAHA".
So yeah, if you don't wanna know the scores, just don't go on this match thread.

You're putting on a brave face.
And your persistence has not gone unnoticed.
But, really, deep down, you know that's not true.
Don't you?
(silence....)
:tumbleweed:
Shows it all, I'm afraid.
Avoid the match-thread.
Ach - November 22, 2009 10:58 PM (GMT)
Il be keeping tabs on the other matches anyway.
Just dont want people clogging this thread up when we have a specific thread for those matches.
Syn - November 22, 2009 11:03 PM (GMT)
'Clogging up this thread'?
You do realise this thread is a match thread? ....and therefore will be completely full of shit. "FFS why aren't we 7-0 up...it's already nearly HT ffs...Wenger you moron!!!!"
So what you're saying is you don't want to clog up something that is already full of shit.
I propose we keep all the shit in one place. So the stench doesn't pollute quality threads in other sections - like 'pass the parcel'.
Ach - November 22, 2009 11:09 PM (GMT)
Exactly.
Match thread.
Not other CL matches thread.

STANDARD LIEGE boss Laszlo Boloni insists his unfancied side can upset the odds by beating mighty Arsenal tomorrow.
The Belgian champs visit the Emirates determined to build on their victory over Olympiakos last time out in the Champions League.
Boloni said: "We go to Arsenal and we're going to win. That is our aim."
Keeper Sinan Bolat believes that Liege, who lost the home leg 3-2 despite going two up in the first five minutes, can spring a shock if they keep their concentration for the whole game.
Only a win will do to keep their qualification hopes alive should Olympiakos beat AZ Alkmaar in the other Group H game.
Bolat said: "It's important to be concentrated for 90 minutes.
"They switch positions all the time so if you're not concentrating they will catch you at any moment. We don't look at the stats of Arsenal at home, we just look at our own performance.
"If we play like we did at home against Olympiakos when we won 3-0 we have a chance.
"We're not afraid of Arsenal, but we have the highest respect for them."
Liege's former Spurs defender Ricardo Rocha added: "We should still think about qualifying."

Start Nasri and give Rosicky another 30 minutes, they need more match training before the big Chelsea game. :good:

He's available :good:
Almunia
Eboue Senderos Vermaelen Gibbs
Fabregas Denilson Rosicky
Walcott Eduardo Vela
I don't really mind what kind of team we put out if it means we take the chance to rest two or three regulars. Gallas and Sagna I think have to be left out at some point and I cant think of a better chance to do it.
Walcott and Denilson need the minutes.
Gubby-Allen - November 23, 2009 07:14 PM (GMT)
AW said a few weeks back he won't splt the CB's up. If he rests them, it'll be both.
I reckon it'll be the strongest team - eg Almunia, Gallas, Vermalaen, Song, Fabregas & Arshavin will start along with any other 5 - Vela & Theo will probably be 2 & Denilson another.
Any win will do, get us through - and then roll on one of the most meaningless games in all the years I've followed Arsenal (the last game - not Chelsea) - where we really can take the piss a bit & not play anyone we don't want getting crocked or flying.
Gunner Bee - November 23, 2009 09:14 PM (GMT)
I do think we need to rest some of our team, in fact as much as we can get away with. I would go with something like
----------------- Fabianski------------------
--Eboue--Senderos--Silvestre--Traore--
------Denilson----Song----Nasri---------
--Walcott-------------------------Vela----
--------------Eduardo----------------------

Standard Liege coach Laszlo Boloni has revealed an admiration for Arsene Wenger's football philosophy, but feels that Arsenal will come short of Champions League success this season.
Arsenal had been unbeaten for 13 matches before Saturday's Premier League defeat at Sunderland, where Wenger's side failed to produce the calibre of football that saw them overturn a two goal deficit to defeat Liege in the opening group fixture of this season's Champions League campaign.
Boloni has indicated that this performance perhaps highlighted a weakness in Wenger's side, and, whilst in awe of his counterpart's vision, the Romanian coach believes that Arsenal lack the quality of Europe's elite sides.
"I feel the policy of Arsenal is something really incredible and admirable," Boloni told a press conference.
"Arsene Wenger's policy and the way he manages is very intelligent, and the way he manages his game is also very intelligent.
"I remember discussing with him when I was a young trainer, I was really admiring his intelligence and also his vision about the future of the club - but in comparison to Real Madrid, Barcelona or Chelsea, maybe they lack something."
With Boloni's side needing to gain a point to keep their own European hopes alive, he expects a tough encounter at the Emirates.
"Arsenal have some warriors in their team, they are not young lambs," he said.
"It is easy to say 'to go to war', but without the ball it is very difficult.
"We must have strength to do more than that.
"We will be organised and with our strength we will try to do the maximum so that they will respect us."
Boloni added: "It is always great to come to England and to come to come to such a stadium - it is really a football temple.
"It would be good to be happy when we leave the stadium as well."

Syn, the reason for it is that some people are solely watching the Arsenal game and won't be able to/won't want to find out any other scores whilst ours is going on. And I think that is fair enough given this is an Arsenal match thread.
