Title: Should Silvestre play LB v Chelsea?
Description: Gibbs isn't physically strong enough
davegordo - November 5, 2009 01:47 PM (GMT)
Watching last nights game and listening to the words of Big Tone. It brought to my attention Gibbs lack of physical strength.
As we all know Chelsea are just a bunch of lumps with a bit of quality, Silvestre in my eyes, although no way near as good going forward, is gonna be needed to play against their ultra physical attack.
Does anyone agree?
CK's Korma - November 5, 2009 01:48 PM (GMT)
Doesn't matter who we play because we won't win.
davegordo - November 5, 2009 01:50 PM (GMT)
thankyou for that uplifting reply!
you seem to be a half glass empty kind of fan...... in fact your mentality is probably whats the point in drinking i'm gonna die eventually anyway!
RVP Left Foot - November 5, 2009 01:50 PM (GMT)
Silvestre shouldn't play in the reserves let alone mention the 1st team

I think Gibbs has the talent he's just raw. I would prefer him over Silvestre. At least he has some recovery pace if he gets in trouble.
It's going to be a tough game for us but we have the quality to do it.
LuvDeGooners - November 5, 2009 02:20 PM (GMT)
We played them off the park last year at home, and somehow got nailed....
....we're stronger this year.
Gibbs is fine. No better, no worse than Gael as far as I'm concerned.
I'm looing forward to TV5 launching tackles at Drogba.
CK's Korma - November 5, 2009 02:21 PM (GMT)
Quite looking forward to Vernaelen vs Drogba.
Whatever - November 5, 2009 02:27 PM (GMT)
Drogba is gonna rip us to shreds..don't think Vermaelen is good enough to contain him..the guy is unplayable at the moment

is this the same physical strength that helped senderos not one iota during his annual rape-age from drogba?
give gibbs a run of games :good:

if he isnt supposed to go past the halfway line and we employ diaby and song as 2 DCMs to help control midfield then yes it makes sense - youre basically sticking a left footed CB there
Gibbs = clichy + crossing ability. And thats taking into account clichy's loss of form

No way, Clichy is a way better than gibbs atm.
i was really dissapointed with him last night,so light weight..and when he get past by very week Douchebag he never track back. :banghead:
he is good going foward though( he shud be a winger), if he want to be left back, he need to be little bit stronger or he will never make it at arsenal, im afride to say that.

Currently Drogba and Anelka will tear Gibbs a new hole. He is not strong enough yet and still has a lot to learn. I dont mind seeing Silvestre at LB against Chelsea, at least he is strong enough to hold of their strikers. :coffee:

Nah, Drogba pwned him in the cup semi.
Xaviola - November 5, 2009 03:37 PM (GMT)
But then again Silvestre will get done for pace by both Drogba and Anelka.
I prefer to stick with Gibbs, this is his chance to get a good run in the side and he might not get another chance for a while when Clichy does come back.

Should be OK if he flanked by Vermaelan. :coffee:

Gibbs is potentially far better than Clichy.
In many ways is already better.
I would look to keep him in the first team. I am not convinced that having him in the team will ensure our loss but could certainly aid the win.
CK's Korma - November 5, 2009 04:14 PM (GMT)
Gibbs is not better than Clichy by any means.
Elche - November 5, 2009 04:22 PM (GMT)
One thing here is not to fret...whatever stress we have about Drogba...they have the equal level of stress at least by our front players.
Chelsea are Drogba at present , we are a number of threats to them.
They should be worried because, it is likely we can score 2 or 3, so they really do need to play Drogba in for everything...which they can.
But by no means is it all reliant on our defence with Gibbs just being great...This forward line of ours is looking very Barca like of last year.

in which way sorry :threaten:
the guy missing very simple defending technicque really and far too lightweight.
he shud be a winger imo.

think that's bollocks..gibbs is probably better going forward, but that doesn't mean an awful lot..defensively he's even worse than clichy and that fucking means a lot

So the choice is a weak lb but good winger.....or a player which Anelka will ring 3 rings around before he even notices him!
Ach - November 5, 2009 05:38 PM (GMT)
Play Gibbs.
Silvestre has done a decent job when called upon but id rather he pplayed at CB when he does have to play
davegordo - November 5, 2009 05:45 PM (GMT)
then again, if Gibbs plays well imagine the confidence boost that'll give him! Clichy would struggle to dislodge him!

And yeah, stick Silvestre in. He can't defend (but nor can Clichy or Gibbs) but he's actually quite good going forward. He'd be one of the best crossers in our team.
JackTheLad19 - November 5, 2009 06:10 PM (GMT)
Silvestre's a really poor left-back (ok CB). Wouldnt want to stick him in even with the alternatives we have.
AW said Traore returned to training today so he'll be Gibbs' back-up. Only argument I can see playing Silvestre there is for height, and chances are Drogba'll concentrate on Senderos-ing Vermaelen.

I've got it down as the other way 'round - Silvestre's a crap CB (as his stats for us well tell you) but an ok-ish LB...or at least, it seemed to be that way for Man Utd.
But the way he doesn't even seem to be close to getting a game seems to suggest he has probably regressed very badly during his time here. Being French and all that, you'd think Wenger would have no hesitation chucking him in.
Get Bendtner - November 5, 2009 06:13 PM (GMT)
And you are right to be. Lets worry about who's next, get them out of the way, then we'll concentrate on Chelsea.
