Description: vs Wolves

Marc Overmars - November 7, 2009 07:28 PM (GMT)
Loadsa goals, points gained on United and/or Chelsea

International break now. <_<

Vermination - November 7, 2009 07:30 PM (GMT)
Easy win. Could have scored more in the second half if we really wanted to.

Conceding a goal at the end again. :fury:

hymppi - November 7, 2009 07:31 PM (GMT)
conceding took off the icing of the cake.
1-2, good result.

Syn - November 7, 2009 07:31 PM (GMT)
Great result. Good team effort all-round and some pretty damn good football being played - the one-touch, pass-and-move stuff seems to have replaced the tactic of boring and exhausting the opposition into a mistake.

Lancastrian Gunner - November 7, 2009 07:32 PM (GMT)
Good performance, controlled the game nicely.

Bubba the Gunner - November 7, 2009 07:33 PM (GMT)
Again, absolute domination.

Real shame to conceed but we have the best goal difference in the league.....whatever.

This team is finally producing the goods game in game out.

Good times for us gooners :good:

Great away perfomance and win in tricky conditions :good:

Managers intial lineup disappointing but fate helped him out as usual.

Also, afraid we wont be able to beat any of our rivals if we dont have a 3 goal difference in the last 10 mins

If we keeping winning against these pub-teams, we won't have to. ManYoo only won 1 out of 6 against the top 4 and ended up winning the league. But yeah, we're always likely to concede a late goal, which is slightly worrying.

Wham, Bam Honey on toast.

A poetic performance from Wengers golden whizzkids. Football played like stirring a couldron of warm treacle.

I think Wolves' goal was a gift.

If you watch closely, you will see Venmaelen just dug his head, bend down and left them have the header straight.

Anyway, RVP was so reluctant to score as well. I think they were absolutely off the gas in the 2nd half.

Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wayne Hennessey - 7 - The Welsh goalkeeper stood no chance with any of the goals, with the first two crossing the line after major deflections.  Pulled off a good save to prevent Arshavin from scoring at the near post.

Christophe Berra  - 5 - Missed a glorious chance in the first half, managing to divert his header away from Almunia’s goal when it looked easier to score.

Jody Craddock - 8 - Scored a late consolation for his side, giving him an impressive tally of three goals in two matches. Unfortunate deflection for Arsenal’s second goal.  Closing down Eduardo the defender’s attempt to clear the Croatian international's chip merely lofted the ball over Hennessey.

Richard Stearman - 5 -Fortunate to escape a booking after a strong challenge on Van Persie.

Ronald Zubar - 6 - Scored an own goal for Arsenal’s first after an unfortunate deflection.  Defended decently throughout, showing great pace to keep up with Van Persie and Eduardo.

Karl Henry - 6 - All-round sturdy performance.  Guilty of leaving Craddock isolated at the back for Arsenal’s second.

Segundo Castillo  - 4 - Ineffectual throughout the match, it was no surprise when Mick McCarthy brought him off.

Nenad Milijas - 6 - Offered some useful deliveries from set-pieces.  Booked for a challenge on Sagna in the second half before being replaced with Jarvis with quarter of an hour remaining.

David Edwards - 6 - Gave a steady performance for his side, but seemed largely outclassed by his opposition.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake - 7 - Went close with a header during the first half and worked hard up front with Doyle throughout the match.  Cautioned for a challenge on Almunia.

Kevin Doyle  - 6 - Worked extremely hard up front despite minimal support or attacking chances.

SUBSTITUTES

Michael Kightly - 6 - Came on for Castillo to make his 100th appearance for Wolves.

Matthew Jarvis - N\A - Late appearance in place of Milijas

Arsenal

Manuel Almunia - 6 - Largely untroubled throughout the match, and was not forced into making a save during the 90 minutes.  Looked comfortable collecting crosses when called upon.

Thomas Vermaelan - 6 - Composed at the back without much cause for concern.

William Gallas - 6 - Cautioned in the first half, the Frenchman was rarely troubled during the match.

Kieran Gibbs  - 7 - Received a yellow card after a robust lunge on Ronald Zubar, the young English full back continued to impress.

Bacary Sagna - 6 - Rarely troubled at the back, offered good attacking support down the flank.

Abou Diaby - 6 - Picked up a calf strain and was replaced by Song on 24 minutes.

Aaron Ramsey - 7 - Missed a great opportunity in the first half after good work from Van Persie but looked comfortable and composed in Arsenal’s midfield.

Robin Van Persie - 9 - Another great performance by the Dutchman which deserved a goal.  Showed great awareness and unselfishness to find Eduardo for Arsenal’s second, before majestically laying the ball on for Fabregas to score the third.

Cesc Fabregas - 8 - Fairly quiet performance by the Spaniard’s standards despite his goal.  Showed great composure in scoring his side’s third.  Should have done better with a second-half effort which he smashed over the crossbar.

Eduardo  - 8 - Scored a goal with the aid of a deflection, troubled the Wolves backline before being replaced on 70 minutes by Rosicky.

Andrey Arshavin - 8 - Found the back of the net with a fantastic finish, hitting a first-time effort into the bottom left cover after latching onto Hennessey’s punched clearance.

SUBSTITUTES

Alex Song - 7 - Replaced Diaby and did well to break down Wolves' midfield advances.

Samir Nasri - 7 -Still lacking match fitness, his general play was neat and tidy after replacing Arshavin.

Tomas Rosicky - 6 - Settled nicely into the side after replacing Eduardo.

Yeah you're spot on but whats concerning me is to win the other trophies that matter (CL and FA) we're going to have to go through the EPLs usual suspects, and thats kind of a shame because I think atm we can beat any side in Europe with this team..

Yeah...it does concern me. OK, at 4-0 we can live with it but at West Ham it cost us.
I realise we're not going to win every game but we're not going to score 4 every game either so that goal did annoy me as did a couple of the chances when we overdid it.

Overall though, very satisfying performance and result.
At times this season this lot look like Arsenal at their very best under Wenger, it's brilliant to watch. My only worry is there's not enough to moan about and GW could suffer as a result.

but ... stirring a cauldron of warm treacle, is that a good thing?

I was delighted with our performance today, because they really came at us and had the better of the first 25 minutes. But we did what the best teams do: first, held strong and didn't concede under their pressure; and then, do the most with our chances and, by hook or crook, got the ball in the back of their net. Great stuff!

Just got back. Happy days. :scarf:

Wolves with good intent in the first 20 mins or so but their defence was suicidal. We werent playing that well but even then still looked ominous every time we went forward. Was always going to happen eventually.

Eduardo got some abuse after the 2nd goal, the Wolves lot thought he was trying to goad them.

RVP was really good but probably should've notched himself. Ramsey was impressive but as soon as Song came on we looked that much better in CM as Ramsey was allowed to attack. Another goal for Cesc, cant stop atm.

Vermaelen and Sagna also very good. Disappointed to concede but all in all very good.

QUOTE
On being up 3-0 at halftime…
“We had chances, we had been under pressure in the first 10-15 minutes and after that I felt we controlled the game. Overall we could have scored many more. We know that on every counter-attack we looked dangerous and as soon as we could win the second ball and put it on the ground, we looked always capable to play through their lines and score goals. I feel that where we were maybe a bit surprising when we came here we expected to suffer on set-pieces, to not necessarily to score on set pieces, and that’s what happened on the first corner. Apart from that, we controlled the game.

On Wolves chances on set pieces…
“It’s very difficult to predict what would have happened, but overall, I still feel that we scored three against Tottenham, four against Alkmaar, four  today… that means we scored 36 goals now in the Championship. That is not a coincidence. That means we can score goals. Of course, if they had scored first it would have been much more difficult.”

On Arsenal’s defense…
“We have a style where everyone goes forward. You cannot have everything in football, but I believe we have a good balance between offense and defense, and as long as we score as many goals as we do, we can accept that.”

On why Alex Song did not start…
“I wanted to rest him.”

On Aaron Ramsey playing 90 minutes in his second Premier League start…
“He’s 18 years old and people forget. I set him a target to play between 15 and 20 games this year. So at some stage when you set a boy a target you give him a chance. When we play every three days, I rotated it a little bit because I believe we have a real squad of 20 field players who are of a fantastic level and you can talk and talk and talk, but you have to do it on the pitch as well and give them a chance. He has improved a lot. He has a tremendous engine and he already has good experience for an 18-year-old player.”

On the squad’s desire to win…
“The desire is there. We want to strengthen our belief, but I think the most important factor is that we play for each other as we do, we focus on our performance, and that we continue to develop our style of play. To play at a high pace, our collective game.”

On being out of the title race early last year…
“We were already out of it last year. Two years ago, we were very close to winning it, and people forget that. And last year we were out very early because in 14 games we had lost five. Now it is very different. We are in a strong position because we have a game in hand. Let’s keep strength in our belief, keep humility, and enjoy our game.”

On tomorrow’s Chelsea-Manchester United match…
“It will be very interesting, yes. A draw is fantastic for us. But the most important thing is that it is a good game, it is too early to calculate too much. Is it good or bad to win? Let’s hope it is a good game and enjoy it. You enjoy it always when you have won your game!”

On the teams in the title race…
“I wouldn’t discount Liverpool at the moment. The problem we had last year, the others had not lost two. Now everybody has lost two, so the difference with Liverpool is not as big.”
