Title: Wenger Is Lost
Fats - December 10, 2005 07:03 PM (GMT)
Come on then let the floodgates open.
Wenger has lost it plain and simple. I feel he is lost with the team. We all blame players but he buys and picks them, so guess who is to blame.
I know what most will say, but its all been in the past and as soon as that old chesnut comes up we all know we are in trouble.
Im not happy with his recent signings or coments about not buying players for the sake of it.If the players he has cant be bettered then why have so many teams caught us and passed us. Just excuses in my book.
So come on bring it on, give me a good reason to think otherwise.

No takers come on make me positive again .

Im going to agree with what you say, At the end of last season, did AW not say he was going to bring in 2 well known world class players? Im sure he did.
Gooner_No_1 - December 12, 2005 06:00 PM (GMT)
I disagree with that! Wenger is well in control of the situation, he has made some fantastic signings and made the club as a whole very successful and an awful lot of money.
To the degree that we are moving to a massive state of the art stadium with a much higher capacity.
No wonder he has had to pull the purse strings in for a bit, for the greater good of the club long term, we are not in masses of debt and are still able to compete in the transfer market buying wisely.
True we have been on a bad run of form lately but there is no need to throw your teddy's out!
You cant win everything every year and there will come a time with every club when they need to rebuild the squad, that time is now!
Never agreed with this "sack the manager, sack the players" policy it never works and sends clubs even deeper into turmoil. :fight:

Im not saying sack Wenger !!!!!!!!! Some players on the other hand need a bloody good kick in the arse.
We have money to buy players, 60 million so spend it. The board have the new stadium finances well in hand, so there is no excuse.
RBGunner - December 13, 2005 10:58 PM (GMT)
Weve Deffinatly got the money for players its just AW, hes very picky on who he spends it on and how much he spends on that certain player.
plodder - December 14, 2005 02:51 PM (GMT)
You be talking shite, he is a great manager. How can you begin to run him down after all he has done for the club ?
Get behind the manager and team, even Pascal and then you can feel a bit better if you beat Chelski !
Fats - December 14, 2005 05:05 PM (GMT)
Thats it though Plod mate we cant afford to look back. How many times do teams hold on to managers too long.
Powlo - December 14, 2005 05:09 PM (GMT)
He should be picky about who he buys. We don't have the money of Man U to buy players like Forlan who turn out shite.
It takes time to negotiate with players and we were pipped at the post on Baptista and SWP in the summer. There wasn't time to source other players.
There would have been no point in buying players who are not as good as Cesc or Flamini etc
It's going to be important who comes in during Jan...
If we have the same squad after the window closes again I might tend to agree with you, but we're a long way off that yet.
I am slightly annoyed Smith is extending his loan spell though. I thought we could have done with him back....

Here Here, Well done Plod me old fruit, absolutely fantastic manager, all the big clubs would love to have him, gets results, wins trophies and makes pant loads of cash!!!
Of course he is picky who he buys and what a bloody good job he has done so far, the next chapter, the ashburton chapter is about to begin, sit back and enjoy the ride.
He will spend, we will win, patience is a virtue oh impatient ones! :old:
dostoy - December 15, 2005 03:44 PM (GMT)
He has done a fantastic job in the past, there is no question.
But he is on the way to seriously cocking it up this season, he has made three big mistakes :
1) To sell Vieira, Edu left and not replacing either (you cannot count Song).
2) To give the captaincy to Thierry Henry when Sol Campbell would be the better choice.
3) To even consider playing Cygan at left back let alone keep playing him there.
Will he buy anyone in January when we desperately need a big centre midfielder and a striker ?
If we do not buy those two players in January then we will finish 6th/7th this season.
If that happens, he should go in the summer.
I am beginning to lose faith in the manager and it is possible on the first of February that I will have lost faith completely.
I have never known it to be this bad and I am very disillusioned indeed.
Gooner_No_1 - December 15, 2005 05:05 PM (GMT)
In all due respects how old are you Dostoy? i can remember many occasions when it has been a lot worse than it is now, what do you class as bad may i ask? Just not winning the Premiership?
You cannot win all the time, there has to come a time of transistion, AW is doing a great job, bringing players through, paying for a new stadium and has 60m to spend on new players, The Future is very bright!!!
Chelsea have spent nearly 300m so far to get where they are, if they hadn't we would be there or there abouts.
I cannot agree with your pesimism!
dostoy - December 15, 2005 05:22 PM (GMT)
I am not pessimistic about not winning the title, I said in September that I would be VERY happy to finish second.
What I am pessimistic about is the three big mistakes he has made this season and that I have absolutley no confidence that he will spend any money in January or the summer for that matter.
I am not saying that he should spend every penny of what he has got to spend but we NEED two players in January and two or three in the summer and I just do not think that we will get any.
I very much hope I am wrong, if not 6th or 7th is what will happen.
Gooner_No_1 - December 15, 2005 05:38 PM (GMT)
I sort of agree with what your saying to a point, i just dont agree that you can put all of these things down th Wenger, there has been a few peps on here lately gunning for Wenger, thats what i cant do, he is a fantastic manager and i have total faith in him!
You and i or any of us do not know what the board want him to do, how much they want to spend, what the situation is behind the scenes so difficult to comment and also difficult for me to say "i'm losing faith in Wenger"
Hypothetical question: If we lost Wenger who would you have as his replacement?
(and please dont say morinho or some1 that is not available) :homer:
dostoy - December 15, 2005 06:27 PM (GMT)
Would you still have faith in him if he signed no-one in January and maybe a couple of 17 year olds in the summer, and we finished 6th this season ?
It is very difficult to say who I would choose as his replacement but the most realistic one is Paul Le Guen who coached Lyon to four (I think) successive title wins and I think is still between jobs.
An outsider for the job would have to be Fabio Capello who is currently with Juventus but who has said that he would like to come to England.
I was a big fan of AW but January is a very very important month for us as it gives us a chance to buy the two players we need and we should get Ashley Cole back from injury.
We need those two players in January, if not then prepare yourself for more defeats.
