Title: Spanish League Winners
Description: Who Do You Think?

Philsko - July 23, 2006 12:20 PM (GMT)
Would have to Go For Barcelona myself, can't see anyone else catching them.

Cripps - July 23, 2006 12:23 PM (GMT)
Cant see anyone other than Barca winning it although id expect Real Madrid to run them close.

They have added some defensive players in Cannavaro and Emerson and if they can get rid of Raul and get a decent striker to support Ronaldo they will be a force.

TheCrazy58 - July 23, 2006 12:30 PM (GMT)
1. Barca
2. Valencia
3. R. Marketing

Also hoping for a better season for Betis. Also Villarreal may have a better season now that they've been knocked out of Europe (lost Intertoto)...... ;)

northbankgunner - July 23, 2006 12:43 PM (GMT)
Hard to look past Barca really. Real should push them for a while though.

Voted for Barca myself, can't see any other contenders. I still think Real are in a mess and will explode pretty soon.

I don't think Marketing will 'explode' as Capello will be too smart to let that happen. However this will be a season of massive transition for them and I don't think they'll do enough to bother Barca. If any team is to do that, Valencia will.

Coca Kolo - July 23, 2006 01:42 PM (GMT)
got to be Barca:

with a defence that has Zambrotta, Puyol, Marquez and Thuram (even though he will be a sub) is close to unbreachable.

a midfield of Van Bommel/Edmilson, Xavi and Deco plus the exciting Iniesta coming through is brilliant.

an attack that constitues Ronaldinho, Eto'o and Messi as well Gudjhonson is sheer class.

however....for the top club in Europe to have a goalkeeper of Valdez's quality is laughable....they need a better goalkeeper.

as well as spanish champions i imagine that they will be hard to beat in the champions league..although Inter may have a say in that...

Nah....Valdez isn't as bad as he is made out to be. He does suffer in comparison with Casillas, certainly and he has the odd bad match when he loses the plot, but these are aberrations. It rarely extends beyond, say, a bad half. Also with Barca's defence and midfield in front of him, he often spends long stretches of the match when he has absolutely nothing to do - maintaining concentration is difficult under these circumstances and something he'll have to continue to work on. But by and large he does well for Barca.

Also, by goalkeeper standards, he is still quite young - 25 I think - so he can only get better.

he's OK but i should imagine that Barca would be in the hunt for Buffon.

I don't think they will. If they wanted to do something about Valdes they would have done it 2 seasons ago. Buffon's agent will be probably wasting his time if he tries to flog him to Barca.

not too sure about that myself..i keep hearing that Barca are intrested in him by various journos...

if they do get him..then they would probably be an all star eleven.

Gallas The Gooner - July 23, 2006 03:23 PM (GMT)
i wish A.Madrid the best of luck. But they won't win it. Barca will.

The Emirates Gallastico - July 23, 2006 05:24 PM (GMT)
Barcelona, but A. Madrid will run them close

i expect Real to finish behind in fourth behind those two clubs and Valencia

TheCrazy58 - July 23, 2006 06:10 PM (GMT)
Think Sevilla will do well once again........

I'd probably use the word "implode" there but I get the message and I agree with it; Barça and Real will be NAN for the first few months and then Barça will just run away with it..

Cripps - July 24, 2006 08:37 PM (GMT)
Valencia want Ronaldo and are willing to pay what Man utd are asking.

http://home.skysports.com/list.asp?hlid=40...e+Ronaldo+price

TheCrazy58 - July 24, 2006 08:44 PM (GMT)
Woohoo go QuiQue Sanchez Flores! Seriously, with Morientes, del Horno and now this, Valencia are buying cleverly, coming in after Real's interest fell away. Ronaldo may think Valencia are a bit beneath him but under the circumstances he may seize whatever lifeline out of ManU anyone offers.

Mac'll be upset if they get him though

Cripps - July 24, 2006 09:06 PM (GMT)
I think Valencia might finish 2nd. Always a tough team to beat.

bkyler - July 25, 2006 07:19 AM (GMT)
with Valencia's buys lately, I think the top 4 will be a lot harder to predict

The Emirates Gallastico - July 25, 2006 01:38 PM (GMT)
hope they get him, anything that weakens Manutds team is great

Wenger stings like a bee - July 26, 2006 02:45 PM (GMT)
I have taken a bit of a flier with Real Madrid.

Cripps - July 28, 2006 10:49 PM (GMT)
Real have RVN. I think they need someone to replace Zidane and they might be a force.

Look at their defence.

Casillas

Ramos Cannavaro Woodgate Carlos

and Emerson will be protecting them.

I think they have sorted out their defensive problems and they have a decent partner for Ronaldo now in RVN. Beckham on the right who has been brilliant in Spain.

Who plays on their left?

bkyler - July 29, 2006 03:53 AM (GMT)
Robinho will replace Zidane and appearently we've offered Reyes to them (which takes care of their left)

Zidane used to. Baptista?

Obviously Capello is putting together a team to tide him over for the next season. They should do well, at least in the early on in the season. Whether the Los Geriatricos then will run out of steam by, say, March (because they'll be going after everything to play for and their squad isn't all that big) remains to be seen.

It says something about them, though, that someone like Kaka just isn't interested. :)

Flava Flav - July 29, 2006 06:51 PM (GMT)
It will be barca but it will be close

bergstar - July 30, 2006 11:15 AM (GMT)
I think Valencia will go close this year. They've got a very solid squad this year
