Hi Lisa, Its been a while since I had a puppy but my new works dogs I have trained to do the toilet on command.
It can take a wee bit of time (depends on how smart the dog is at picking up the "Game") but it works a treat and is very handy if you are going on a car journey etc.
You just need to take Kia (preferably on the lead so reward can be instant) to a place where you know she will do the toilet ( a patch of grass etc) and when she does a pee give the command "Peepee" (or what ever you want to say) and say Goodgirl to let her know you are happy and then reward her with food. When you see her squat for a poo do the say, I say "Get busy" (rather than having to shout poo-poos in the park lol and then food reward.
Once the dog has mastered it you can then transfer the command to your garden or any where else you want them to go.
Obviously she gets no reward for doing it in the house so she should learn that when she does it outside it gets her praise and reward and that must be a good thing. Just remember not to give her a row when you get home and find an accident unless you actually catch her in the act, or she will have no idea what she has done wrong
The other thing I have trained Keala to do is ring a small bell on the back door. When she rings it the door opens and she gets out for the toilet.
Hope this helps Goodluck :fingerscrossed:

Oh I also should have said if you are going to give this a try make sure you ALWAYS have treats with you in the early stages so she associates the command and the action with a treat. Treat her everytime she has a pee or poo outside. Later on praise will be enough!

Also whilst you are training her, watch for her body language, most dogs sniff the ground and circle before going to the toilet, so when you see that, thats the time to take her to the place you want her to toilet and praise like mad when she does it.
One thing I had to do with my old dog was take a sheet of the peed on newspaper and place it in the garden, she soon got the idea that that was the outside toilet area.
Good luck Lisa, on a positive note, girls are much easier to toilet train than boys lol

Hi Lisa, do you catch her doing the toilet in the house? If so I would be giving her a good telling off in voice only for doing so. Its difficult to do if you don't se her doing it as she doesn't know why you are angry with her and that just confuses her.
Is she peeing in the same place? If so this could be because the smell of pee is still there. Normal cleaning products do not remove the smell however much you try to get them out. Biological soap powder is what I have heard will remove the smell.
Is she doing the toilet at all outside?
When is she doing the toilet? How often?
LISAX - April 10, 2009 03:12 PM (GMT)
she is only doing it at night as in the day i let her out often or the doors open
i havent caught her in the act yet

Hi Lisa, do you take her drinking water away at night? If not I would try that. They don't need water overnight. And if its a poo she is doing try feeding her earlier. Do you split her food or does she get one big meal (two meals would be better too).
Are you remembering to praise and reward her when she does it outside? Have you got her doing it on command yet
