Title: Fumes in Carriage Incident 22/7/05
Description: on Northern line at Kennington Station

Sinclair - December 11, 2006 10:09 PM (GMT)
I came across reports of this incident of the 22nd July 2005 (the day of the murder of Jean Charles de Menezes).

A comment left on the BBc website:
QUOTE
"I was on the Victoria line carriage that filled with a chemical smelling smoke after leaving Stockwell on Friday [22nd July 2005]. After evacuating I stayed with police for over three hours answering questions and giving an account of what happened and they seemed to be taking it very seriously. Very few people stayed to give their accounts to police, not even the woman who pulled the emergency alarm who probably had a clearer idea of where the fumes came from."

reported  here & on BBC website here

More reports are here*, including a (now dead link) to a report quoted as:
QUOTE
LONDON -(Dow Jones)- There was a security alert at Vauxhall station in south London Friday, BBC television reported.

However, the alert later turned out to be a false alarm, the BBC said later.

From Comment No. 7 at the link above*:

QUOTE
For a false alarm this was a pretty major operation, taken very seriously by the officers in the cordon. It’s absence from any news reports from that day seems a little conspicuous to me.”

This '22nd July' device seems like a 'non-bomb' of the July 21st type, but very little has been reported of this incident.

There appears to be a reference in the JCdM inquest transcripts to this Fumes in Carriage Incident of 22/7/05:

16 Q. Then going over the page, this is still 22 July, of
17 course by this time you have your loggist, we will hear
18 from him in due course about all the other meetings that
19 you were in on 22 July, but just following it through,
20 we have 9.30, Gold investigation planning meeting, then
21 9.35, Kennington tube, smoking rucksack, and then --
22 A. Sorry, that's a reference to a potentially -- what was
23 felt to be another device, with smoke coming from it.
24 As it turned out it wasn't.
Can I just refer back to
25 1859 again? It's just the mention of Elias Girma. You

1 will see there operation, or Op Anomalous, it should be,
2 not "anamolous", that's just to highlight the fact that
3 yet again that was another ongoing anti-terrorist
4 investigation which again had to be considered, thought
5 through, to see whether those concerned or subject of
6 that had any part in this. It was, if you like, another
7 piece of what was becoming a sort of fairly substantial
8 jigsaw potentially
