Technically, according to Western traditions, the naming order makes FAR more sense in the 'First name, Last name' order anyways. It's just a difference in culture. I use the Japanese in English phoenetics way anyways, but of all things to be concerned of in a game, why would you care about the naming order? It's just a label after all. And no, the difference between Devil Kings and Sengoku Basara is not just a labeling difference as well. >_<

Honestly, I wouldn't have this ura nonsense if I never learned that prominent history games like Age of Empires, Civilization and Total War can use the 'correct' order. -_- I really weeped when finding out that KOEI 'screwed up' even NobuAmb Rise to Power, a game which is supposed to be a contestant to the aforementioned games. Just what the hell is wrong with this company's localization team?? :(

For one thing, there is no correct order. It ain't a matter of right and wrong, to be fair. It's not like something like gravity where you can say it definitely exists and is correct, whereas if you said there is no gravity on Earth, you'd be wrong. With the translation of anything, there is bound to be a few different opinions. I've seen Ieyasu's name as Iyeyasu for instance. The second version isn't wrong; it's just another way of phoenetically displaying the Japanese kanji equivalent of the name.

Whether it's first name, last name or last name, first name is just a matter of whether Koei wants to translate the Japanese name and Westernize the order or translate the Japanese name and leave it in the Eastern order.

Well there's only one way to answer that. Send an e-mail to Koei/Capcom localization team and ask why.

Until we get a clear answer, guess we'll have to just stuff it with BK's antics. Once you get the hang of it, it's actually hilarious and fun.

It really doesn't matter whether the first or last name comes in front, as long as the name is correct...that's all that matters.

But apparently, for BlackKite, it matters a LOT.

Just ask why for the Japanese version, they use first name-last name order, while for Chinese, it's last name-first name.

That's exactly it. It really doesn't matter if the Pinyin was reversed so that Bei Lu, Cao Cao [lol same] and Quan Sun were the three kingdoms rulers. It would annoy the piss out of people, but that's just because it's something people aren't used to. But still, it's just an alternate way of translating a name. :/

And the reason why this thread derailed is because quite a few of us don't want dk2 to be a game. I'd much rather they just port over and translate future SB sequels directly.

Liu Pei is the Wade-Giles translation version. Liu Bei is the Pinyin version. Like I said, different translation of the same thing. It's just a matter of preference. Most people prefer Pinyin now, which is why that name sticks in people's minds more.

Back on topic! Hanbei should be something like "Dark Minion" and Hideyoshi should be "Primal Fury"..so then, Hanbei could say "U R SUCH A ANIMAL!" to him!
